just put a V&H SS2R on my 2001 X1. it makes the same gurgling/popping sounds when i'm coasting to a stop or decelerating. will also install the race ECM as soon as my forcewinder XR2 gets here. |

"gurgling/popping" is a lean mis-fire. Easy to fix on bikes with carbs ... harder to fix on bikes with injectors. |

Chris : it's around 400 bucks. Expensive but worth it IMHO. You'll love your bike with this header. Richy : I have the carb version and there's no popping with the Trapp, nor with the OEM muffler. This is probably due to the FI mapping. Or to an intake leak if you've removed the injector once and eventually damaged the rubber seal. Dave : I never tried with more than 15 disks so I can't confirm your bike peculiarity. When Battle2Win tested the Trapp in 1999, it was a clear winner with 15 disks and a clear looser with 11 disks. But no more details. You can find some generic info about disk tuning on the White Brothers web site : http://www.whitebros.com |

Ok, I've been quiet too long. Time for my .02 cents worth. To all those with the Supertrapp IDS. The tech dept. at Supertrapp recommends 15 dics for the F.I. bikes. I didn't ask about the carbinated ones. Now here comes the trick part: The end cap with that bolts onto the main body of the muffler. Hold it in your hand. Where the exhaust exits, you will notice the end is rolled inward. CUT IT OFF! Just the rolled part. You have now just gotten rid of one of the catch points of the exiting exhaust. Now look at the inside of the cap. Notice that funnel looking piece? CUT IT OFF flush at the base of the cap. Dosen't that look better now? Ok, I bet you are wondering what this does? When the cap in it's orignal form is bolted together with the body that funnel is in line with the disc end cap. This would work very well if you were using the open (disc) end cap for racing. Well, 99% of us are not. With the funnel removed the exhaust will be allowed to flow outward with way less restrictions. If anyone wants, I'll take a picture of mine. |

A friend of mine an I did something a little different to ours than any thing I have seen on the board. I took my 98 S3T stock pipe and threw it as far as I could (not very far it's HEAVY) and went to the local Midas drew a pic and $10.00 later I had a 2.5 inch from collector to rear tire. Still working on Jetting. From 2800 on up it goes like a raped ape!!! On his 99 Cyclone we started with the stock elbow and welded on a 2.5" Cherry Bomb. his is a lot quieter. will post pic's later. |

To all of you that have asked for pictures of the modified end cap. Hang on and I will either post them here later today or I will e-mail each of you who asked individually. |

I'm going try to load the pictures of the Supertrapp mods I made. The first is showing the 'rolled' piece cut off. The second picture shows the 'funnel' that protrudes inward is cut off. Now go look at your stock one and see the differance. Hope this helps.

Yeah, but the oil tank took up all the room. I really really like the pipes. Maybe I can get some. I'm waiting on a phone call to find out more on this very strange Buell. By the way, up close they looked very well made. Rocket in England |

whoa....that looks righteous. It would look cool if they flared an outlet on each side of the rear wheel. Looks like the battery would get in the way of that though. that is a solid weld on the bracket. I wonder if having the muff's solid mounted creates breakage probs from vibration. |

The whole exhaust system is hard attached to the motor so there is no relative movement. The LH muff is hanging from the large bracket and its CG is such that there is very little weight on the front attachment to the header. It should be fine. How is the RH muff attached? |

treich: hurry up with those pictures. your set up sounds very interesting and economical. so, you're running a straight 2.5" pipe from the collector to the rear tire? is there any kind of turn-out or turn-down at the rear of the pipe? and how is this thing mounted to the bike? must sound awesome. is the pipe stainless, aluminum, or steel? please fill us in on the performance details. thanx! |

Rocket, twin mufflers might be great in principle; but the ones that you posted above will detract from the beauty of your bike. Those things look like ... mainly because they hang down too low IMHO. They are almost as "over the top" as Loki's puke can (sorry Loki). Know when to say when. Your Buell is already the best looking one on the planet . . . for now |

Trust me, in the flesh they look f**king awesome. I should know , right ? You are right about low. I think the outside one would touch down pretty easy. Rocket in England |

rocket, battery box is plain ugly. Let me guess: low unsprung weight? The idea of the pipes is freaking awesome although they hang waaay too low and the headers are waaay to much to the front. Tell the guy to stay on this track and let him give me a call when he's there... S1WL Hein in Am*dam, longer than yours... |

Peter : You know for an Ozzy git you're on the money What big f**king eyes you got !!!!!! At least someones paying attention. Certainly different Hein : And to think, I thought you were a man of taste. Yes, the headers were a tad to far forward but if you'd have been paying as much attention as Peter, you'd have realised there was a reason. As for the mufflers, they didn't look to low as to look out of place. Yes, the battery box was ugly !!!! Rocket in England |
