From the looks of that Pirelli tires won the shootout in Texas. |

"This just in from Buell Motor regarding their preperations for the Daytona 200. But one wonders, with all of the rumored legal challenges being prepared regarding the legality of the Buell for the FX class, will it even make the '200?" Some folks sure are funny. |

some folks don't want to believe Buell could be a threat. |

"This just in from Buell Motor regarding their preperations for the Daytona 200. But one wonders, with all of the rumored legal challenges being prepared regarding the legality of the Buell for the FX class, will it even make the '200?" Yes, most definitely. There are three of them in Daytona right now, and more coming. The bike is absolutely legal (anyone saying it isn't is selectively quoting the rules), the AMA Tech Director has inspected it personally, and the AMA has declared it legal publicly. Anyone, of course, can protest it after the race, and be assured that the Japanese are lining up their associated privateers to make those protests. But being legal is a 100 percent defense against a protest. Of course, people in glass houses should be careful about throwing stones . . . |

For the longest time we heard that Buell can't compete. When they do compete those same people bitch. Get over it already. |

Of course, people in glass houses should be careful about throwing stones . . . That's almost a veiled threat. No, what I mean is, that threat’s almost veiled. Oh, I hope those RR’s get the chance to compete on their own merit (no strokes of bad luck), and win big. Methinks the race will only be stage one of Mr. B’s Daytona butt kickin’ program. All black bikes with riders in black leathers and black helmets would be super attention grabbing. A more profound marketing scheme does not exist. I dunno, Blake. Daytona stage 2 might top it. If it happens it’ll be a well-publicized contest. And if Mr. B has his ducks in a row being legal is a 100 percent defense against a protest he’ll win big. (It’ll take months for the sound of the raspberries to die down.) |

Let's see.. knowing the smattering of Buell history that I do.. "If Mr. B. has his ducks in a row?" I am reminded of the old adage.. Fool me once.. Shame on you. Fool me twice.. Shame on me. I don't see EB or any of his friends, supporters, employees, fans.. letting anything like that happen. If there is a possible rules infraction on behalf of one of the Buells.. it'll be something done by a rider or crew member without BMC oversight. But, that's just my opinion.. |

Now you have me thinking Capt Pete! Wouldn't it be interesting if not only did the XBRR do very well in Daytona, but if the Hondas mysteriously and unexplainedly dropped performance by 5% (as they know the challenge they are planning to make will result in increased scrutiny). That'd be an interesting turn of events... |

The Soup story should be called one man's attempt at bad logic. He seems to ignore the fact that the XB12R exists, until later in his wobbly argument against oil coolers, he draws direct parallels between the XBRR and the XB12R configuration and design. His own argument about 'the AMA not allowing an air/oil cooled RC51' actually helps make Buell's case. The XB12R is a production v-twin air cooled bike with an oil cooler. The XBRR is that same config with something less than "unlimited" engine modifications. Where is the production version of Honda's RC51 that is air cooled? Never seen one of those on the street. Is this guy on the Honda payroll? |

The RR is not a street bike. FX rules do say it has to be. But, since the RR has been declared legal, it'll be interesting to see what happens. Does anyone know what hp the FX Hondas are putting out? Sherm |

We'll see those cases on the street XB's this year. The AMA knows this. That's my un-informed guess anyway... |

It's a shame - I used to really love SuperbikePlanet.com for its news, but they are really showing their anti-Buell bias. Here's an email I got back from Dean after I emailed him to see what gives. Scott, You’re almost reaching the limit of allowed BS in one e-mail, I think. There’s so many untruths in there I’m not sure where to start, frankly. You’re very impassioned and I respect that. I hope things turn out the way you wan them to in this Buell fiasco. It’s a sad fact that the bike is clearly illegal and the AMA has really stepped in it this time by allowing it in the FX class. Thanks Dean On 3/1/06 1:53 PM, "Scott Rains" wrote: I guess when you can't see passed displacement things are hard to figure out. You don't hear anyone complaining that Honda and Yamaha have an unfair advantage because they are permitted to have twice the number of cylinders and valves. Not to mention twice the front brake rotors and the efficiency of water cooling. Then you have Honda's blatant cherry picking of the FX class last year, now it's Yamaha's turn. Factory teams with unobtanum parts versus Buell's dealer supported teams with parts you can actually purchase. You think that Yamaha could sell their FX bike in the $30,000 dollar range? What's with the hard-on against Buell? I love your site for its news, but your bias against Buell are getting ridiculous. Give Erik a break, the AMA bankrupted him when they killed the Formula class and now that he's got a chance to be competitive with a LEGAL bike everyone wants to bust his balls. Remember the saying - "There is many a slip between the cup and the lip". Remember when Mr. Daytona got in a fist fight before the 200 and took himself out of the race, and was not able to ride the Harley VR-1000? Remember when Mr. Daytona got hit from behind when his Ducati 998 stalled at the start of the race, and it took him out of racing forever? The race ain't over till the fat lady sings or something like that. edited for correct bike in the correct year. (Message edited by jima4media on March 01, 2006) |

Well said Scott!!! I don't really understand why everybody are so afraid of Buell. After all, we ride bikes with archaic air cooled V-twin, isn't it what they all say? They are so pathetic! GO BUELL GO!!! |

Jim - Russell was on an HMC Ducati that stalled on the starting grid that caused the end of his career. |

That’s an interesting thought, Reep. be assured that the Japanese are lining up their associated privateers to make those protests Which could actually be working something like: “Ah, sorry guys, but we need that gizmo back, and that one over there, we need that one back, too. And lookee here, we got a new one of these for y’all. You’re gonna have to swap these out and let us have the old ones before the race.” “Oh, I remember it just like it was yesterday. 2006, the year everybody got legal.” |

Someone a little smarter and more eloquent than I should really give it to SuperbikePlanet.com Here is their email hardscrabblemedia@earthlink.net I have been an avid reader of their site for the last 6 years, but they are really trying to get this anti-FX-Buell pot stirred up. |

2 words would end all the worries about factory "overspending" to win AMA races: CLAIMING RULE Let's establish a $30K claiming rule for FX (there may still be rules on the books for system-by-system claiming) - then spend all you wanna. |

"The RR is not a street bike. FX rules do say it has to be." You sure about that? Or... what is a street bike that is allowed "unlimited" engine modifications? I'd say it's a street bike with unlimited engine modifications, wouldn't you? You ought come on out to Daytona chopper man. Would be great to meet you. |
