You can find the polypropylene long johns at military bases or off base surplus stores. Keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer! |

I also suggest that those who are riding in the U.P. in early May invest in the XRUJ jacket, XRUP pants, and the X waterproof gaunlet gloves that Buell has out. It will be money well spent! |

Not to worry guys we should be up into the 50's and 60's in May. I usually start riding the first week in April.Long johns and heated hand grips are recommended though just in case! As for this last weekend it was -15 but three years ago it was +50! So you never know. |

So here I am trying to plan a ride for DaveS and the people coming up for Ride to the U.P in May but I need info on riding style and ability to make it enjoyable for all. Plan A is to ride to Copper Harbor at the tip of the copper country via backroads, forest service roads and two rut trails. Plan B is still in the works! So any help would be appreciated. I'll be pre-riding the route the weekend before to make sure the route is open(no snow that is). |

I have ridden all my life. Hundreds of thousands of street miles. I haven't ridden any bike off road since I was 15 and had a Kawasaki 100 (ha). I am not adverse to riding my new ULY anywhere the group wants to go though. Frank Orlando Black ULY |

Kreature, Keep in mind we have Sat afternoon and Sunday morning to play in the woods. I have ridden all my life(ok,I was 8 but that is when life started for me) I don't think we should plan anything over the top "offroad" Some creek crossing would be cool though! I'm thinking it would be best to stay(mostly) on backroads and logging roads. |

All I'd ask is an honest evaluation of the ride before we take it. I don't want to end up in a spot where I can't turn around and I know I'm going to wreck my bike due to my limited offroad skills. My only other concern would be the speed people travel in the rough stuff. Again, more me being a wuss than anything. Personally I'm good with logging roads and whatnot. But if I'm not, I'll just meet you wherever. I was just up in the Copper Harbor area snowmobiling and I've been up before with the truck. It's beautiful up there. |

Kreature, How about a road group, for those incapable or not desiring navigating off road/forest roads(me) and a Uly group doing the true adventure touring, meet in Copper Harbor to the fish place for lunch or dinner? I am sure some of the routes crisscross the road systems allowing for the two groups to hook up at some mid point even if it means some backtracking for the road group. I have to work back up there again about the second or third week of March. |

Dave, thanks for everything! Bike is home safe and sound. Put .6mi on it already on a quick spin around the block. Picts: http://www.pbase.com/stevenknapp/xb12x |

Looks good. Noticed that you're on your toes like I was. Alligator Bob on RT59 will lower your stock seat and put in a Pro Pad for $160. One day turn around, too. Mine is a comfortable as the stock seat, only lower. 50's on Wednesday. Bob C. |

Thanks Dave! It was the most trouble free new vehicle delivery I've ever had. My wife even commented on it "I wasn't even there and I know it went well, you're already on your way home!" |

Better than the "the bikes over there and don't forget to give us 10s on the survey" delivery you told me about? |

Not to worry the main route is mostly county roads and forest service roads with some off-road excursions for the dirt guys. My good friend Butch will be happy to come along and show you the way. |

Today(I hope) I am going to start working on getting us a deal on a hotel to invade. I need to know how many of you are coming so I can properly warn the hotel. Kreature, Any suggestions on a hotel? I looked online yesterday and I'm thinking the America's Best or the Comfort Inn? It would be great if we had a place to eat close by that is big enough for our group. |

Jugall94, I want to go also, and live north of Lansing. I will probably be staying with some friends in Iron Mtn. but definately want to hook up for the ride up and back though. Friday leave is great for me(Remember I'm a welfare worker). Its exactly 400 miles to Iron Mtn. from my house. All my info is in the assistance network. |

I'll have hotel info later this week Then everyone coming will need to make reservations. Your going to need a room in Appleton for Thursday and Friday night unless you are meeting us at the factory Friday morning Then you will need a room for Sat night in Iron Mountain We will ride back to Appleton on Sunday so if you are going to stay over and leave Monday morning you'll need a room for Sunday night too. |

Swampy, I am in Southern Cali until thursday. This weekend I am gong to get a route planned out and try to figure out who is coming so we can set up meeting points. On the way back I am planning on stopping off for the night at my familys property on rose lake. You are welcome to crash for the night if you want, then the next day I have to make a pit stop in white cloud to say hi to some old friends. That is all I have been able to get planned out so far. |

I'm going to shoot for the factory Friday morning and hang as long as I can. Work is hectic, but hey, that's life. I should have another guy with me, definitely a potential customer. Alex |
