Howdy all, I have to remove the battery on my XB9R for storage reasons. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? Thanks, Cheese | ||

Yes. The one pitfall regarding taking the battery out is getting it back in. The battery strap was designed by demons. Slide the "D" shaped ring so that the narrow end is touching the strap, get the wide end over the clip, and use a wide screwdriver to ease it over. BE VERY CAREFUL. | ||

Concur w/Redbull... it's a bi..tch!... that strap somehow detects when it has been removed and shrinks an extra inch just to make it a challange.... It took me 30 minutes of stretching and a l m o s t there.... before I finally got it to engage... whew! It sure comes off easy though... (Message edited by freyke on February 24, 2006) | ||

I just spent 20mins trying to get mine back on. Wow, did I ever swear alot!! With as much stretch as possible, I pushed down on the end of the rubber strap grasped between wide pliers, but there's a risk of tearing it, so BE VERY CAREFUL. Finally got there, now I'm NEVER taking it off again. | ||

Like Bake said... if possible leave it in the bike with a battery tender attached... I was due for a new battery on mine 3+ years old... threrefore it was time to change it out... | ||

If you are having trouble getting the strap on, grind a small knotch into the end of a flat blade screw driver. Then use the small knotch as a way to push it over the retainer... | ||

 blasted battery strap! Last time I put mine back in I sounded like Ralphy from a Christmas story, f bombs flowing from my mouth. Its always when your in a hurry to get it back in too. | ||

I used to struggle and swear at it myself, but I found a technique that seems to work pretty well. Using my right hand, I stretch the strap as far as I can. I then press down hard with the heel of my left hand which leaves all the slack beyond the edge of the battery. This makes it easy to slip the ring over the hook. When it's lined up, simply release the pressure on the strap and it's set. No sweat, no swearing, and more time for an ice cold beer. | ||
