Has anyone cut in to their out airbox cover to make opening ? What did you use ?I was thinking of cut some kind of flames in to it and covering from the inside some kind of wire chrome screening. |

Max, Hows it going, I cut mine all out all the sides and two in the front one on each side, and then put that aluminum mesh ya know that guys with the honda cars stick in their front grills, and two part expoxy them on the inside strong as cement, Looks good and can really hear the intake sound if you are into that.. As Far as cutting em out , well hack saw rough opening to about where ya want the finish designs and then alot of hand sanding etc. can use a dremel tool as well a little. One thing you have to remember when either you electric hack saw or air/electric dremel tool it really HEATS up the material fast and starts to Goo up for a lack of better words ,like melting so take it slow at a time ...hope that helps and IF I could find the pictures I posted on badweb you could see what I done, I`m not good at finding things ...Should be under cut up or modifly air box covers etc.etc LoL Its worth the time cost is nothing at all...bit of sandpaper stuff off with 100 grit and work your way up in the grits say up to a 1000 or soo Have fun..., Oh yeah can use a hand file too to help first clean up the edges... |

Hogs that looks pretty good, Max I'm not an artist so I did mine like this. I took the same approach that hogs did as far as removing the material, just a lot less. I used a hot glue gun instead of expoxy and got my wire mesh from the hardware store. Even though this opening is not that big it makes a night and day difference from before |

I used a Dremel with a carbide tip. He is right about the plastic heating up, but I let it cooldown then just 'broke' the little balls of plastic off. Don't have any picture's handy cuz I lost all in a puter crash! They are on here some where. I cut out the 'BUELL' letters and put the gutter mesh behind it. Only problem I had was that the lid would not fit properly with the thickness of the mesh. That led to the complete chop of the inner air box. It is all being painted right now, will look pretty bad azz when finished I hope. |
