Ok so I got this lovely undertail from Ermax. Nice unit, but I can't mount my plate on the bosses provided. Anyone else run into this? I really don't want to cut the plate (legal reasons). I was thinking of making some extender brackets. How did you guys mount your plate? |

make a custom backer plate the size of your plate..then bolt it to the ermax mounts |

Use the braket from your stock plate holder. I just took off the bottom reflector and cut off the sides with a sawz all. It is a clean looking plate braket anyway. Much better than any of the stockers on a Jap bike. Check it out.

I also drilled some holes through my plate in to the holes for the bottom reflector to hold the plate on better. Without the bottom holes my plate rattled itself apart. |

I just sold my old (stock) under tail with the plate bracket on it. I didn't think this was going to be an issue. But it gives me an idea to use the mounting holes where the stock bracket bolts to. Looks nice by the way. |

Al at American Sport Bike sells one for $59. I don't know if it is even worth fabbing your own when you can buy one for that cheap. I always ceck to see what I can use off of the stock peices before I sell the other stuff. Here is the one from Al.

Does it mount using the 2 holes that secure the undertail two the subframe? Looks like it does, but can't tell from this angle. |

I think it does, but if you send Al a pm I'm sure he can tell you if it is compatable with the Ermaxx. I think Al is rewiring those himself by hand now isn't he? I did it myself, and it was a pain in a$$! The blinker ground was touching the power wire and it fried my electrical system a couple times. Al was awesome about it though. He helped me trouble shoot everything out. I couldn't have asked for better service. |

take my advise and whatever you do dont mount your plate up just to the flat spots under the lights, It will crack the undertail kit. use the 2 bolts under the tail like olinxb12r did. I made me a plate like on the blue bike and didnt use the 2 bolts to help secure it and from hard riding and wind drag cracked my undertail. Al might remember me telling him about it. I used the plate like on the blue bike and cut up my stock plate frame and used the 2 bolts as a primary support and the bolts I had put in to hold the plate to the flat spots under the tail lights is really for show now (and to cover up my mess up). I will try to get a pic or 2 for you) |

At first I used the original bracket bolted to the sub frame on the bottom, But to me the license plate hung down to low. I went to Lowes hardware and bought a small sheet of 16 gauge sheet metal and fabbed a smaller bracket then the original. Took me about a half hour and about fifteen bucks for parts and paint. I used a jig saw with a metal blade to cut out the piece and put in the vise bent it over with a hammer till a got the angle I liked, painted it and installed. Very easy to do. |

I've had one since they came out for the XB-works pretty good as long as you get past the shoddy wiring job. As far as the plate, I cut down the stocker bracket and continued to use it-no problems.
