Looks Familiar, Last week I got in the bags liners and was using them for the first time when I had some problems in high-30ºF temperatures closing the bag. Using only the force of four fingers pushing down and the thumbs pulling the sides close the latch broke. I do not know if the liner was caught between the sides or the contents of the liners would not allow the bag to close, but it would have taken more force to break a pencil than it did to break this latch. I have always suspected this latch as weak and was what I thought, being careful with it. I'm sorry for your luck, but I'm glad I am not the only one. I talked to the fella at Eurotech and he said this was uncommon, but that he stocked the latch. I have to ask why a business would stock a replacement part that doesn't break. I have asked DaveS to see if this will be covered under warranty, but I have a time constraint because of Daytona and may have to fork out the $31 for the latch. So has this happened to anyone else? |

I am trying to get a latch sent to you. It will be covered(that much I know so far) but I know you don't want to send the whole bag back. I'll know more tomorrow. Dave |

Boy was that fast. I just talked to Bruce from Buell and he's shipping the part today/tomorrow. He said that they were looking into that latch and how to make it stronger. Maybe we'll see something in the future. Thanks so much for making this easier than shipping the bag back and forth. Your customer service is second to none. Thank you doesn't seem like enough to show you how much we appreciate your commitment to Buell and their owners. Three cheers for Daves!! Kristi |

Midnight - I do not have the Buell part number but you can get the Manufacturer's part number from Eurotech website. The latch is covered under warranty though. Daves called Buell and got a latch sent to me. (Dave you are the Man!) |

Somebody tell Buell that I want to be able to open the bags without the dang key! I hate that. My seals have fallen out also on the side bags. I'm going to use some of that super weather strip adhesive and I know they'll stay in after that. I shouldn't have to do that, but I don't want to leave the bags at the dealer forever to get them fixed.... BC Steve |

>>>I shouldn't have to do that, but I don't want to leave the bags at the dealer forever to get them fixed.... No you shouldn't and, in fact, don't. Before thou fiddles, give me a day or so and let me post the PROPER cure. Let's see if we can do this one time only. You will NOT have to leave your bags at the dealer forever to get them fixed. Well......take someone born and raised in Upstate New York (yes, my first job was on a dairy farm!) then turn him loose in the Metro DC area. What do you expect! Heck - although I lived in NY most of my life I never made it to NYC until Sep 12, 2001 (at the age of 43)....But that's another story. To make matters more interesting, I now work on an Emergency Hotline so even if the cell phone rings I can't always pick it up right away. I'll go visit my badweb info to see if I can make it any easier to find me Ciao |

Not sure if you've looked closely yet but remove two screws and the whole mechanism slides out. Replacement can literally be done in 60 seconds. In a pinch you can actually swap pieces out with the tail bag. On the tail bag the 2 retaining screws are beneath the weatherstripping. The only difference I could find was that the base piece from the tail bag is an inch or two shorter - all the "doors" (if you will) and hardware are identical. I have gotten into the habit now of making sure the bags are tightly closed together before I engage the latch - rather than using the latch to pull the sides together. Have fun |

Daves and others with broken latches -- We (M2nc) just received our replacement latch from Buell. The Buell rep we talked to last week sent the latch (with lock), a note and pictures for easy installation. Buell rep stated that they are talking to the manufacturer of the bags about a stronger latch due to these problems. Daves and Buell were very quick to respond to this situation and for that we thank you. Kristi |

>>>>Daves and Buell were very quick to respond to this situation That's an accurate statement. I'm proud as the dickens about the way Buell has evolved into the most responsive motorcycle manufacturer in history. Cool beans and the result of a lot of hard work on behalf of a lot of good people. Court P.S. - can you believe the guy you spoke to used to be wasting his life away as an accountant until he "found the light".

My latch broke also. I'm concerned that when my warranty runs out I will have to keep buying new ones to replace an apparently faulty product. My latch broke the first time I used the bags on a trip & was replaced under warranty. Hopefully there will be an improved replacement piece provided free of charge. I'm not looking forward to buying parts for a product that cost me almost $1000 & only gets used maybe a dozen times a year. |

Also, my weather striping has fallen out of the left bag & is probably going to come out on the right also. |

It will be fixed and fixed right. Send me an e-mail and we can have it done by tomorrow. >>>my weather striping has fallen out of the left bag & is probably going to come out on the right also. That's an accurate statement. The right one will probably do exactly what the left did. I know how, why and how to fix it. Drop me a note and I'll see to it that you are fixed up pronto.
