I'm in for a Sunday ride. On a different subject, some of you know that I work for HD of Dallas in Allen, and right now we are working on getting a BRAG chapter started here. I'm going to be the dealer rep, and I would love for you guys to join up with us as well. I like the guys at Corinth, and have some buddies that work there, so I'm not trying to step on any toes. If any of you guys would like to loan me your BRAG # to help get this thing going, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Hey Metroplexers, Keith and I are going to bow out of the CMRA races this weekend at Oak Hill Raceway, but I might go out and spectate during the sprint races on Sunday afternoon. Looks like rain is a possibility, but if any of you would like to come out and risk it, please let me know and I'll meet you out there. It's always interesting to get a one-on-one meet and greet with the up-and-coming future world class motorcycle road racing stars. Tomorrow is racer school all day also, if anyone is interested, let me know and I can help get you setup for that too. Late notice I know. Sorry for that. Anyone planning on going to Daytona for the AMA Races? |

Paul; I have never been to the Central HD-Buell in Austin. I do know that I have been to Every dealer around the DFW metroplex area (and then some) and AUSTIN HD-Buell is the largest and has the Largest selection of Buell items from parts to accessories to clothing. I dont know for sure about 1431(got to get with the road cap.) but like I said it is a laid back leisure run so no issues with the popo are expected. You are VERY correct on the pie place in HICO. Sorry, you guys cant make it. Maybe next time. Bret; I have you down and will keep you posted. Love the new bike, nice color! Do you still have your black one? (wanna sell exhaust parts?!) Check your PM's. Derek; I have you down too. It will be GREAT to ride with you again. What about Linda? |

I'd love to meet you guys down there, but the wife and kid-o are coming back to town tomorrow night after being gone for a few days. And I miss my girls! So I'm staying in this weekend. Ortega, they're going back out of town again within another week for a week (and over a weekend). Perhaps we should see what's going on at OHR. I believe that there's a Madri-Gras celebration going on in Jefferson that weekend. Wait... On second thought, perhaps I shouldn't go making plans to throw beads at breasts without my wife there acting as my spotter. She has a much better eye than I. The track idea is still a good one I think. I'll give you a call once I know the specific dates she'll be gone. |

Keith no read good. Blake say already, maybe rain Sunday. Dago, Like Keith says, it's not a bad race weekend to stay home on account of the cold wet weather that is a possibility. Not sure if cold wet conditions would detract from or enhance the "throwing beads at breasts" thing. It's interesting to contemplate though. |

DFW Bueller's Let me preface this by saying I am expecting whatever jeering I am due, but dagone it I just couldn’t help myself… Update! So just one day after posting that write up here on the BadWeb I get a phone call from my father. He is in the market for a newer HD Sportster as he currently has my 1983 HD Ironhead Sporty. I had an agreement with him that if he ever tired of it, I would get first dibs on it. Well be careful what you ask for. I made a deal to get with him to take it back. Unfortunately this included me letting the Z1000 go. I had mixed feelings about this, but my kiddos knew the 83’ I had and I hope to someday pass it on to one of them as a real antique. To that end the Z1000 is gone, but so is the R1 I had. That left me with just the 83’ Ironhead. For those that know these bikes, it’s all attitude and for the most part a work out to drive. I really need my daily, sport touring, blasting the twisty, kick in the pants fix! All is not lost though. In my attempt to satisfy my need for a road bike, not a show and go like the sporty; I came across several options. First I looked at a BadWebbers ride SMADD’s Happy Dyno S3T. This bike is unbelievable! Putting down 117 rwhp and 99 ftlbs at the rear wheel, it is truly a beauty and a beast. The color and fit and finish are spot on. This bike is truly a gentleman’s Sport touring steed. The bike is a 1998, but it looks brand new. Second, I received an offer on a 2001 Suzuki TL1000R; The Super TWIN race bike from Suzuki. This bike is 135rwhp and 94ftlbs rw. The TL is a monster! It is set up for 200+lbs riders and is a happy torque mongrel. It has the same slap you in the face exhaust note as a Buell. This is a personal friend of mind that I thought would never sale it, man how doors open. After playing on the Z1000 the reliability factor of the Japanese bikes really impressed me, but I craved the low end TQ of the Buell. The TL is the best of both worlds per my first ride of the TL. I am now in the final stages of picking a bike to satisfy my speed need. I am somewhat of a purest and I am leaning towards the Buell, but man what a freaking hair razing experience that TL is! So I am putting this out here to see if anyone has any input on the TL or the 98 S3T! Spare nothing, I want to hear good or bad! Thanks in advance… Micah |

Micah, I've been reading a book on desire lately that offers a particularly interesting view (to me anyway) on making complicated choices. It sites studies done that evaluated how satisfied people were with the outcome of any particularly complicated decision they had to make (buying a car, house, getting married, etc). They found that people are generally more satisfied with their final choice when they went with what they felt (instinct) rather than attempting to choose by weighing out the qualities in a +/- fashion. So here's what I propose: Have a friend blind fold you, put both bikes 40 feet in front of you, and then 10 feet apart from one another. Remove the blindfold and start running towards the bikes immediately. Which ever one you get to first is the one you should buy. I have a feeling you'll get to the tiller first. |

LOL! OMG that was Great! I feel like a little kid with a bucket of candy in front of him... One chocolate and the other Hard Candy. Both are sweet and oh so good, but dagone it! Chocolate melts much faster in the sun. Still interested in the book though. |

Here's the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0195188624/qid=1140214838/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2 _1/102-5384565-2396161?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 It's a very good read. He does a pretty good job at being objective while offering his insight. I'm nearing the end where he talks about specific theories (religious, scientific, eccentric) on how to master your desires. I'll be sure to post up the answer here once I figure it out. |

Buy the TL so's I can borrow it when we ride together, they are a blast and plenty fun, a lot more imho than the other,(I shall not call it names). It steers a little slow but, you'll get used to it.Keep us informed and sorry to hear about the z1, was looking forward to seeing it! |

Never have much liked the Z1. Good move ditching it. The TLR I've always liked. It may be hard on your wrists in traffic. Very agressive ergos, even for a big ape armed monkey like me. I've ridden behind Steve on his S3. You won't go wrong buying that bike. |

I'd throw in my vote, big surprise, for the 1998 S3T. The one Buell I still lust over was Henrik's 1998 black S3T. Steve Ford has it now and it was totally sorted out and had everything (brakes, gripes, etc) I'd want to change, already done. Great choices. |

OK - this is definitely a "sit at home drinkin' coffee" kinda weekend... My wife is in OKC where they have solid ice with a nice blanket of snow on top and 12 degree temps. She won't be coming home for a couple of days. Dang it! |

Ice racing, maybe... Insurance - I was curious about the recent posts on insurance so I just got a quote from HD Insurance (BRAG membership benefit) for $330/yr, with 20/40/15 liability and $500 deductible for comp/collision, and it's from Progressive. That's HALF of what I've been paying. Crap - I've been overpaying. |

That is good coverage. If you like, I can write to Progressive and let them know what a maniac you are so they can adjust your rate appropriately. Just want to help you feel better re the overpaying thing. |

I have owned a lot of cars, trucks, boats and motorcycles. I am 31 and I have had over 42 autos (cars and trucks). I have owned about 15 bikes and 5 boats. I found that I had a nack for buying and selling. If I bought something that I liked, generally someone else thought the same and it was always an easy sale. It is not something I tell people as if I don't already have enough to say, but I try to keep it low profile. I usally get people asking me to locate items for them and it can create some un-needed stress in my life. Ortega, The R1 is an interesting story. I have not let it go out of my hands only due to the two interested party's have not dropped the cash in my hands. So the bike... I picked it up from a life long friend that had laid it down on the left side in at 25mph turning into his houseing development. It tucked under when hitting gravel/sand. It ejected him off and then righted itself covering about another 50 foot then falling over on the right and sliding into a dumpster. He had a bank loan on the bike for about $4K. I have made his payments for the last year+. I have slowly picked up the items needed to put it back together. It has a remaining balance of $2600.00. All that is left to put in back stock is... Front Upper Fairing Fairing Bracket Headlight Right Mid I have two serious individuals that want the bike. One wants to cover it in Fur and stunt it. The other wants to make it a hooligan. I need to sell it ASAP or I will put more in more money into it and end up keeping it. That would mean I have 3 bikes and the Girlfriends makes 4. The real issue is not the number, but the types. I would have redundacy. So if you know someone looking for a track bike or stock it would be a great rebuild. It has a clear title. It has one very small ping and I do mean ping in the right side frame. It is not enough to really even see, but the right bar end tapped it. I have a list of new pars including Lowers and left mid. seat covers and rear sets and gas tank. The one pic of the right side showing the dented tank, that tank has been swapped out for a good looking stock color one with a small ding in the rear that I was going to cover with a Tank Pad. Here are a couple of picks.

Will call you Micah, deff interested, and that z1 is the exact bike i rode for the brochure, near Julian, California, people stopped us and asked what they were and where to get one, we had to explain they weer pre production and not 'sposed to be seen by human eyes yet, was pretty funny. I never cared for the day-glo orange one, and they made us ride with a matching helmet so looked really goofy, hope you get the bike you want, will talk to you soon,or e-mail me about the R1,thx! |
