Turbine, I put the WileyCo on my M2 about 1,000 miles ago. There was some discussion about them up above, or archived above that in this section. Seems to still be working fine. Only thing is the collector drops to a 2" diameter before it hits the muffler which may actually help performance in some situations, just depends on how your bike is or will be configured. Turbine: The W.B. elbow could use some polishing. 20 min. with scotch-brite and Mothers makes it real pretty. The welds from one manufacturer to another will vary just as they do with in a production run. My bottom line is the W.B. e-series has held up better than any other system I've tried, period. It also will make 95% of the hp and 95% of the torque of the race kit system (YRMV). My 99' S3 with a Race ECM, K&N, gutted air box, and W.B. e-series produced just shy of 92hp and 77 lb-ft torque. My 00' X-1(3) feels stronger and smoother than my 99 and will be dyno'd soon. Short story: Last year going to Home Coming I lost the bolt from my rear exhaust mount on the road (it was a lock nut that was loctited). After ~200 miles and a stop in Illinois I discovered the problem (Brent, who was following me noticed something fall off, but that wasn't too unusual for Sparky). Replaced the bolt (Thanks to DAve) and was able to run the rest of the way to East Troy. ~200 miles of flopping around destroyed the e-series where the straight tube was welded to the front end cap. A phone call to W.B. on Wednesday had one overnighted to Lake Lawn Resort for a Friday delivery. Charge for this part, and shipping, nada, zip, zero $'s. Yes I am a strong proponet of W.B., they have been very pro-active (they have orders right now for 15,000 various systems!). Wileyco, and anybody in the consumer market, this is a lesson in Customer Service that should be reviewed. Wileyco may have a great slip-on, but it is not proven yet. They have been very difficult to contact and that's not a good start. I have tried myself many times to contact them ( I will not call or fax to Italy). I even met the Owner/ Designer at the Dealer's show but communications was to no avail, she doesn't speak english, and the "Sales Guy" promised me a lot, but it hasn't come through in 2 months. Wileyco, if you are listening, call me at 812-385-2564 x258 so we can talk. Just my $0.02. Sorry all I just got my horn stuck and could'nt pry my thumb off soon enough. M2cyclone: Not an easy item to obtain since the Dealers are supposed to retain that hardware and return to BMC. Just humor me for a moment and tell me why you want the old style? Neil S. |

I just got the Supertrapp slip on, I think someone tol' me it was made by the same folks as White Bros. Same concept any hooo, I like that I can add discs in or out. Sounds good, looks a whole lot better than the stocker, (and the W.B, just my opinion). I shall see if it's any better on the dyno. Hell of a lot better seat of pants. Any response about what the differance is between the stock header, and the race header? I'm curiouse about that too. WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY, I get my Race ECM. |

Just what worked for me. I got the KOOK'S header and muffel. Thick, solid mounting bracket.2400 miles now with the only problem being a lost bolt! The sound garners nods of approval from everyone but my sleepy neighbors! My front tire is in a state of suspended animation wear-wise from lack of contact with the road. The KOOKS has a small turn-out to blow away from my tire. Between the KOOKS and the race ECM my S3 has come alive! GALEN & BETTIE ('00s3+) |

Confused??? Can you run the Buell race header with the White Bros. muffler? The race header appears to be totally different from the stock header, thus requiring a different inlet style muffler. The header, IMHO is where is the power is made although a poor muffler can certianly choke this off. Also, can just the race header be ordered? I called a dealer and they indicated that it is available for my 99 M2 as a "kit", intake filter, module, etc. for around $1,100.00; don't think so. I would like to replace my stock header and the Borla muff' I've been running for the last 6,000 miles, seems to peter out over 5,500 rpm. A final question for all you White Bros. muffler owners: how "beefy" is the front mount? The rear looks excellent, but the front takes a pounding and I feel it is potential weak spot for most all aftermarket pipes. |

Schmeky, The collector on the race header is larger in diameter and doesn't require an elbow. Contact White Bros. for the correct application. The race header is available separately, using the part number listed above, it is called a kit because it includes hardware. Order it by part number, as some dealers are confused. I would like to request that if anyone has pic's of the following muff's installed that they either post 'em here or e-mail me a copy; I'd like to see: The Boss, a Borla, a 'trapp IDS and buell race kit preferrably on an M2. Schmeky: You could use the W.B. with the race header if you had an adapter made. Like Mark said the W.B. is made for the stock header and uses an elbow. With the race header you would need a short straight adapter. Neil S. |

CcRyder and Bandm, Thanks for the very good information. I intend to call Sporttwin on Monday and check out availability on the header pipe. I gather that from Mark's response, White Bros. may make a muffler compatible with the race header. I'll call White Bros. and check it out. I bracket/drag raced cars for several years and I have seen the affects a quality equal length header can make. On my car, a top of the line equal length header improved the 60 foot as well as mph and ET. I feel my 99 M2 would improve as well. I just wonder if the buell race muffler (looks heavy-duty "industrial") is the best route. Can't deny the research and engineering that has gone into it. Looks like it would last a long time. |

Billgw, I will send you some pictures of my 99M2 with a Borla. I don't recommend it since it has no front mount, just a flimsy spring. If you are willing to modify the pipe, as I did by stainless welding a heavy gauge stainless hand fabricated mounting tab, the Borla will do OK. I had to modify the rear mount to use the buell isolator gromments due to vibration present in the foot pegs. Unless Borla has made some mounting provision improvements, I would look at something else. However the Borla sounds "marvelous", makes good mid-range, and looks good. Be prepared to re-jet the carb, but this needs to be done anyway. By the way, if you are having oil consumption problems, I have a cure. I have developed a crankcase oil coalescer that captures oil vapors and returns them to the crankcase. has worked incredibly well on my M2 for about 6,000 miles. Have e-mailed instructions and pictures to others, costs about $10.00. |

Airborne, E-mailed you from work on 4-16-01. This inexpensive home-made coalescer has exceeded my expectations. It is based on a technology used in the compressor air industry for the past 30 years, has no moving parts, requires no maintenance and can last indefinitely. Pictures are on the way. |

Just got my 2000 X1 out on the road for the new season (Minnesota winters SUCK!)with the Daytona BOSS. The sound and performance is much better then I expected. I'm using this exhaust set-up with a PCII (Borla map), hi-perf O2 sensor, and a K&N filter. The noticeable power is in the 3k - 5k range. I took it through it's paces and to my surprise I hit the rev limiter much faster then before! Nice power and the sound ROCKS! |

Has anyone had any experience with Vance and Hines as far as warranty issues? I've got a SS2R (part # 16529) that the front bracket has broken off the elbow. Will they repair this under warranty? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Thanks Schemky, I appreciate your input on the Borla pipe. Man they sure make it look nice in their web page ad. But then again don't anybody who's trying to sell something? I don't know that I'd be real confident with no front mount tho... The stock muff on my M2 has a very robust mount system and any decent looking pipe that could match that level of security plus give me the sound and performance I'm lookin' for wellll, lets just say SOLD!! Could you give me any pointers about what if any improvements you made to the air intake/filter on your bike when you put the Borla on it? I live in the Puget sound area so most of my riding is at sea level to 1,500 feet or so. If you would e-mail me or give me a home phone # I could call you at with hours that are good for you I would appreciate it. Blastula, You should have know problem with it. I had my first three brake within 4000 miles until the latest one they sent me. The mounting tab is almost three times as thick and instead of the tab being butwelded to the pipe it is bent to conform arounf the pipe. Over 9000 abusive miles on this one with narie a prob. Basically P/U took care of it the fisrt two times then the third time they said it had to be mounted wrong. One call to V&H took care of that! Thanks Ryan |

Billgw, I installed the Force Sidewinder inlet filter assembly. It is overpriced, but it gives excellent knee clearance, looks very "trick", and with a K&N element, will last the life of the bike. I drilled the back side of the Force inlet elbow and tapped a 1/4" female npt opening for the engine vent/vapors. My coalescer outlet ties in at this point and is not visible upon casual inspection. I used the Thunderslide kit with great results. The Thunderslide kit/Force Inlet/and Borla literally woke up the Thunderstorm motor and made it powerful and more flexible. If you're not using any oil now, you most likely will not in the future, sounds like you got a good motor. Call me tonight after 8:00 cst, I will e-mail you my number. I purchased a 2000 M2 last fall and I am getting ready to work the carb and change the muffler. I have lurked on this board and reviewed the archive trying to get a idea of the sound level for the different pipes. Does this look like the correct order from less decibels to more decibels? Is there any pipes I'm missing? Stock Supertrapp/Kerker WB Wileyco V&H Borla Daytona Boss |

Please don't confuse 'more decibels' with more power. Yes, the Supertrapp IDS is somewhat quiet but remember it is tunable to get maximum HP from your bike. If you go that way, don't forget to 'fix' the end cap before install. |

Jml, yea...you left off the buell race can, but i don't know where it would appear on your list. just got a new 2001 x1 and i'm shopping for a muffler also. does anyone know if the stock collector on my 2001 x1 is 2 inches or 2 1/2 inches? i guessed that the stock collector would be 2 inches but i was looking at it and it sure looks bigger than 2 inches. please let me know 'cause i wanna make sure i order the correct muffler. thanx! |

Y2k01x1: Your system is positively a 2.5". My preference is the W.B. if your not going with the Buell Race Kit. Add the Race ECM, K&N and gut the air box and you will really put some guts into your midrange. Guaranteed to put a grin on your face that will make both set of cheeks sore. Later Neil S. |

Someone was asking about race header: From looking at the race kit on another bike, The race header's primary pipes are longer and bend around the front of the engine and the collector is centered facing straight back. Has anyone tried just the race header into an aftermarket muffler (Supertrapp or other with straight inlet)? Looks like with a little creative mount fab. it would fit fine. |

thanx everybody. duh! i'm such an idiot. after i posted, i flipped open my parts manual and there it was listed, a 2.5" torca muffler clamp. will have to look at the books first next time. got the race ECM. a forcewinder xr2 and a V&H slip-on are on their way. if i replace the intake, the muffler, and the ecm in my garage, will the bike start and run well enough to get me to my dealer so they can zero-out the throttle position sensor? trying to save an hour or two of labor by doing the wrenching part myself. |
