I hate to say it, but this video is a load of crap. First of all, the responsibility for this staged accident was almost entirely the biker's. In the first scene when the driver looks to his right, there is no bike in sight. Play it again, you will see what I mean. He then looks left, and turns. Would have been a good idea to look right again, and left again and so on, but most people don't, and don't have to in this situation. The biker was quite far away when he must have seen this car, and it was the biker's responsibility to himself at least, to make sure that he did not depend totally on the car's driver to prevent the bike from driving head-on into the car: that is the bikers responsibility. The biker should have slowed down long before the car pulled out. The key to a long career on two wheels is to never give a cage a chance to kill you: if you can see HIM, you must take the responsibility to not let him hit you, no matter how careless he is. just my .02¢ |

Yeah, I think they need to run that on every network, at every commercial break. although, if my wife ever saw that, I may not be allowed to ride anymore ;( (Message edited by RATyson on February 08, 2006) |

Ouch! There's only one thing missing in that video. The Cell Phone! The Cell phone has got to be one of the worst things to happen to a motorcyclist. That is a very effective video. |

Well that clip flat gave me the Creeps, I hope we never experience it for real. The Cell Phone bothers me as well, a bad combination for Bikers. We are flat at risk, always assume the worst case and plan for it so that it will not happen to You. (Message edited by tourguide on February 08, 2006) |

Yes the idea is good and actually cage drivers do kill a lot of bikers because of their stupidity.. but.. but the video has some bugs, I agree the bike has almost all the responsibility for that crash. they need a better director. I think that another typical situation is when people open their car's door without looking if someone is coming first. The door's hedge hurts a lot. there is plenty of dangerous situations... and they pick up the dumbest one

It came from a friend of mine that is a MSF instructor. I agree that the biker should take some responsibility in this scenario as well. However, the point is to make an impression upon the vast majority of mindless cage drivers. I think it does that very well. |

The video plays a trick on you too. The driver's head obscures the camera view of the right. If his head wasn't there the bike would be visible. |

I would have to agree with the earlier posts, it appeared the biker was going pretty fast. I'm relatively new to biking, and that may add to my timidity but I would always be proactive around intersections. |

Accidents where 1 party is 100% at fault are actually fairly rare, unless they are single vehicle accidents. There is usually something one of the parties could have done to prevent the crash. I don't think anyone would say the biker wasn't riding too fast for the circumstances. They just overdramatized to drive home a point. It worked. |

OK, it looks like some of you missed the point. This commercial was designed to shock car drivers into being more mindful. Who cares whose fault it was? The rider was a bunch of pixels... he didn't feel a thing. Ivanski |

the "point" of this video is clear to anyone... and we all appreciate its effort. but it could have been shot better by the director. |

Try this one: Guy with helmet cam in an accident. looks like he got boxed in. any thoughts? could this be avoided?? http://www.thetartcart.com/videos/watch.asp?Media=730 |

The helmet video crash was pretty ugly. Due to a pretty darn field of view it is hard to tell if it was avoidable. IF there was not a car on the riders left he should have tried to go behind the car that spun out. However if a car was on his left he would not have that option and the accident may truly have been unavoidable. It is hard to tell for sure but it loks like the rider did not brake very hard before the impact and may have not been focused. |

Hard to tell, but the car on the left lost control, you do not know which way it'll go really. I don't think there was enough time to figured out that going to left lane is the safest. I'd brake hard and try to get to the right lane as my first reaction. But man, that's scary. |

yeah A kid in Denver just killed a a bicyclist by swerving while text messaging on his phone while driving. He has to spend his spring break in jail. That'll teach him (where is the sarcastic font?) http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_3482506 |
