I think Dunlops choice of the name "Qualifiers" for their new street tire sucks. It makes discussions about tires needlessly confusing. Sometimes the marketing types need to be told NO. Regardless of the (in advertising weenie voice) "racing imagery the name evokes" |

Don't want anyone getting fired for posting on this board. this is a very real possibility for folks who work at the Motor Company and post here.... (no, not the original anony, another one! ) |

I cannot understand all this secrecy over the testing times etc. Times recorded at a test session mean almost nothing when it comes to race time, simply because the opposition still won't know all the variables such as: Was it on qualifying tyres or race tyres? How much fuel was in? Was the rider running race distances or short sprints? And many more. Even the Moto GP teams aren't this sensitive about their test times. They even allow journalists to photograph the new bikes for Chrissakes! I for one think Buell are missing a great PR opportunity here. |

I think secrecy is good when ever you can use it. Why give them any info what so ever? the race results will determine the effect of any "buzz". Pre-race buzz with crap results would equal nothing, no buzz with good results equals great buzz - the pre-race matters not - only the results themselves. Racing is pure competition - to me its not about pleasing the fans with pre-race info, its about maximizing the racing advantage. Intimidate the other guy, make him guess, make him wonder. If I were Schwarzkopf rolling out my new big gun, I don't want to "test" it in front of anyone. (did he have a full load? What was the angle/trajectory? Blah Blah) Better to have them think - "That is one scary gun, lets get the hell outta here" (Message edited by Mr_cuell on February 10, 2006) |

I disagree. Look at the stir that Jason DiSalvo has caused this week with his FX testing times at Daytona. Surely it is more of a psychological blow to the opposition if you post blistering times just a couple of weeks before the race, and when it is too late for them to respond with changes to their own bikes? The only reason not to publicise a test time is if it isn't good enough. |

Or if you just don't want to give them any more ammo for dis-qualifying the bike... |

There is only one time before a race that really matters - qualifying time. If you qualify badly, and it places you way back on the grid at the start, there is almost no way to make up the time during the race. Unless your name is Valentino Rossi, of course. There is always an exception to the rule. |

The only reason not to publicise a test time is if it isn't good enough I think a certain Mr. Penske might disagree with you. He is known to be very secretive and has won a race or two. It is really a matter of what stategy you want to employ, no right or wrong way, just different ways |

Maybe my own point isn't so valid. If I had a big gun maybe I'd blow some stuff up to make it clear that I was not to be messed with. But their gonna race no matter what, so this is not an issue of deterrence. Oh well. Hey - this is me - |

Secrecy is important, but Suzuki just showed their hand, and they've got a full house. Mat Mladin is listed as a Formula Xtreme rider on the AMA Superbike site today. Oh, and only one Buell XBRR rider listed - Steve Crevier. Dave Estok and Bryan Bemisderfer are listed but it doesn't say what they are riding, or if they will appear in the Daytona 200. You have to be able to qualify at 110% of Mat Mladin's speed and there are about 110 riders listed. (Message edited by jima4media on February 11, 2006) |

I want to be crystal clear on the issue concerning anony posting on BadWeB. First, there is NOTHING shady about it. Second, anyone who assumes anything about the origins of any anonymous poster is foolish as they represent a wide range of folks in various capacities. Third, all anonymous contributors are vetted and approved. Yeah, some of them can get cranky. Like you or I never do? There are some folks who owe apologies, but in my view, at this point anonymous isn't one of them. |

I am almost certain Mladin will not be racing the 200. Spies maybe, but I haven't heard of Mladin even riding a 600 lately. |

What do you think Mladin has been secretly testing in Australia for the past 6 months?

I'd be surpeised if Mladin rides a 600 considering his disdain for the "minibikes". He's also stated that he would like to have 9 Superbike championships by the time he retires. I don't think he'll take the added risk of riding the 200. |

Besides, at this point I think Disalvo has to be considered the favorite to win. I wouldn't bet against him even if Mladin does ride! But who knows, it's a long race and anything can and has happened. Maybe even a Buell on the top podium spot! |

I edited my post for the sake of diminishing the sad tale that transpired with respect (in a manner of speaking) to Anony's remarks regarding ABSN. But it has left an impression with me. It was deplorable. As far as an apology goes, I would say that we could care less....we don't need it. Go Buell! (Message edited by jon on February 11, 2006) |

Here's a theory. We'll start with facts. The "beta" RR was slated to be tested at Daytona when Katrina hit, so the test was delayed. They were then going to test it on a Dunlop day, but Dunlop wouldn't let them run because the RR runs Pirellis (kinda kills the M1's theory that the Qualifiers were made for the RR). Finally, they were able to test it at Daytona with McWilliams. This was the prototype with the old bodywork, so a casual onlooker would have dismissed it as a standard XB racer. My info comes from RoadRacing world, starting page 32. So, on to the theory: If an RR was crashed, it could have been at Daytona, where 160 is likely. This would make the abrasive anony's "comment" as to the when the bikes were heading to Texas moot. Jim's story did not mention a location, simply an event. On to the next part of my theory. No one, other than the abrasive anony, is denying that it happened. I think some people know more than they are saying and just let Jim hang out to dry. So, in my best "Clue" form: It was Mr. Buell, at Daytona, with the prototype. How'd I do? BTW, if I got it right, I have to give a huge thumbs up to Erik for putting up and riding the bike hard. How could he not go out and ride it as it was meant to be ridden? I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who will first build a race bike and then put it through its paces. Trumps Mr. Honda putting an RC211V out to a crowd. Vik (Message edited by eeeeek on February 11, 2006) |

Who do you expect to authoritively post a denial, other than someone from the factory, and they have to post anonymously? Sorry, but as the prior anonymous post said no XBRR has ever been crashed to date. That is still true, even after Texas. So, sorry to disappoint, but that's the reality of it. So, Erik drops dramatically in the respect department, I guess. Man, "abrasive" in the eyes of the sacborg kings, wow, that's some tough standards to live up to! |

Erik for putting up and riding the bike hard. Erik rides every bike hard. From XR100's on up. Why do think our bikes are so fun to ride hard? The designer like 'em that way! |

Nonny, EB _not_ crashing an XBRR doesn't diminish or drop EB in the props/respect dept. even on the 'borg. He hasn't raced in years, and no one expects him to serve as test pilot. However . . . EB _crashing_ a prototype race bike running balls to the wall would be the stuff of legend, were it true. I understand the corp. need to quash a rumor, but I think in this case you misinterpret the reaction a bit. |

Anony: you carefully answered in a very specific way to not include the prototype. I'm following the trail, making calls and what people aren't saying speaks volumes. Seems an early prototype was crashed, a bit before the Texas test. Care to comment on that? And yes, it is hard to obtain the title of "abraisve" in the eyes of SacBORG. Congratulations. Vik |

The good side is that none of this matters as much as the barometric pressure in Cleveland on Wednesday. I'll second what Dave Gess says about Erik riding ANYTHING hard. The last time I saw (PERSONALLY) him and a bike get tangled up was a day in Topeka, KS when we'd just finished a deal. Erik, Jason Pridmore, Mike Hale and a group of us were at Denny Pattersons. We'd broken out a bunch of the out dirt bikes, including a couple of the "never got sold" MX250 Harley-Davidsons. Erik ended up with a twisted ankle....no big deal. Jason hung around a couple days though and, as some of you remember, buggered himself up good two mornings later while bicycling with Mike P ans was out for the year with a halo on the leg. The lights ahead, not behind. |
