If I buy the 2002 M2, what do insurance companies consider this bike? A sports bike with higher rates, or a "standard"? I think the fact that it doesn't have a full fairing with lowers should help keep the rate down? Has anyone bought the Corbin Gunfighter and the Lady seat with the removable backrest? If so, how did you like it. My wife really wants a backrest, and the Corbin setup is the only one I know of. Jon Neet |

My insurance considers it like an errant cruise missile. They seem to consider it a sport bike and a large displacement one at that. Full coverage is about $500/year and just liability is about $150. My gold wing and my smaller honda cost $200 total for full coverage. Dunno about seats... |

see what they would charge ya for a 2006 CBR 600.... you might drop your jaw.. I pay $560/year for full coverage on my 2002 X1, PLPD would be $200/year. but if it was a CBR it would be $2500/year full, and $899/year PLPD... so mine obviously thinks of it as standard |

I got the M2 and Progressive Insurance, it's not that bad, but I only got liability (high limits) + uninsured motorist. I also got the Corbin GF+Lady, with a backrest. It feels quite different from the stocker, very much a 'highway' seat, the stocker seems better for twisty roads. It's wider under the thighs and sort of square there. What I like is the dish for the driver goes back 1.5 inches farther, to where it rises up for the "lady". So now I can scoot back far enough for my knee to clear the race kit air cleaner. (Yea!) The Corbin weight like 10 pounds more than stock, and the back rest alone weight another 10 pounds at least. Very solid, but don't bother buying any titanium if you run this seat. My wife won't ride without the backrest now. You do have to take the seat off, and use an allen wrench to put on or take off the backrest. It takes about 3 minutes, maybe less with practice. |

insurance is so individual/state specific, others' data is almost worthless give your insurance company a shot -- significant discounts can apply if they've got yer homeowner/renter, car, boat, etc etc etc -- if you don't like what you hear, mumble about taking all your business elsewhere -- can have a marked effect |

Try Progressive. By far the best rates I could find. Gieco was not the best for me. |

If you can qualify for it, USAA insurance is the lowest I've ever seen, even for sportbikes like GSXR1000's. Only past and present federal employees and family members are eligible, though. It's almost a crime how low the rates are. I only qualified because my father is a Vet. |

I got the best rate through Harley. It is actually Progressive that handles it for them, but the rates turned out cheaper than Progressive's rates. Can't figure that one out. http://www.harley-davidson.com/PR/MOT/NUMS/en/CycleInsurance.asp |
