All,

i am considering polishing my frame and swing arm, or rather having it done for me since im not home except for vacations and i want to ride my bike not work on it, but then i thought, i know there are polished airbox covers and lots of other polished parts ive bought most of them already minus the airbox thanks DaveS, what about polished frame protectors? i would still have the swing arm done but having an add on part for the frame would be cheaper then having it polished im sure.

thanks for any input in advance.

Tim

Heres the problem... The factory frame pucks are designed to take impact and take a slide on them. If you put polished medal sliders on there they will not absorb the impact and the end result will be a dented frame. All they would be would be LOOKS!!! the job they are intended to do wouldn't work.

I think he was talking more along the lines of the carbon fiber full length "frame protectors" than the factory pucks.
The same problem applies to them. They are merely cosmetic. Which would serve his purposes perfectly.
Unless I misunderstand his intent.

Diablobrian you are 100% correct. not only do i want my 12R to be track worthy i want it to look good too. now i know we all have different ideas about what looks good, "chrome dont get you home" and such. But, my goal is to have both. i want really practical/functional and good looks.

For me and my "Harley" tastes Chrome and Black is where its at....

Now which one of you have the skills and time to make such an item? i dont and really dont have the time if i did.

thanks for the input keep it coming.

well im off and looking for my polished frame protectors. not going so well but i have discovered again what wonderful sponsors list here on the bad web. I emailed Trojan yesterday and got this response today. it was'nt good news but it was fast.

"Hi Tim,
Unfortunately there is no-one making polished aluminium frame covers
for us
at the moment. The guy we do have that makes our aluminium parts is too
busy
to take on any new projects I'm afraid.

I think that the aluminium frame protectors could present some
practical
problems as well though. The leading edges would have to be very thin
in
order to sit flat against the frame. This would mean presenting some
sharp
edges. To minimise the risk of injury/damage from the leading edge
they
would have to be doubled over, which would then make them stand proud
of the
frame and look 'odd' I think. The other problem would be that
aluminium
sheet would not be as ridid as the carbon/kevlar mix that we now use,
and
may lead to bending either in transit or when fitting.
The last problem would be cost. The work involved in had forming the
frame
protectors would make them prohibitively expensive".

Chief,
I think that you can get about anything chromed these days. How about getting the carbon fiber frame protectors and then getting them chromed? Just a thought. I have no idea if this would work, but I have seen an xb that was completely chromed out so maybe?

I wonder if buying the frame pucks and spray painting them with 'Chrome' paint would look nice on polished alu...

Yeah, im not really sure what i want to do yet, black and chrome/polished is the theme... but i still like all the carbon fiber bits too. i think ill leave well enough alone until after this spring and maybe while im having my softail worked on this summer ill come up with some more ideas for the Buell.

by all means keep the ideas coming because as some point the impulse will just hit and ill do what ever feels right at the time. thats just the way i am i have a giant tribal sun tattoo on my stomach i got here in iraq, prison style gun, because it felt right at the time.
