Ortegakid,
Thanks for the support! I think I need to get with you and hear some more war stories....

I have been cruising the Z (Zed) site and came across of lot of Buell talk. I really feel like the bike is a close match on handling and way over powered for its size. I think that contributes to alot of the crashes you see with these Z1000's. They like to take the headlights from the xb's and put them on the Z. I even saw one mod with an underbelly can and buell lights.

I almost picked up an XB9R firebolt, but after driving the Z.... I just had to have it!

You'll have fun passing me in the corners anyway!

Stick around, Micah. I've moved on ...excuse me... I've moved backwards myself. I just have to see what all the fuss is about with those i4's.

So my tweaked out over revving no torque piece of $#!t arrives within a couple weeks. It'll suck. But I want it anyway.

Enjoy the Z! I don't think anyone really cares what you ride anyway. What are you going to do to it first? Any interest in taking it to the track? I love the looks of that thing.

It strikes me as funny that you'd mention an underbelly can on that bike, Micah, because that's the first thing I thought needed changing when I looked at that picture you linked to.

Dago,
It is sad to see you waiting for your R6. I was in both Yamaha shops this weekend and they had R6's on the floor. Btw, I have a video of an R6 on the track slapping the 19K mark redline like it was B!+(H Slapping the thing!

First mod larger windscreen.

Second mod New tires front and rear. I rode it to work today and the thing is light, I need sticky tires. I already did the power slide between cars changing lanes and braking. It was an eye opener! Something you just didn't do on the Buell.

Third mod, Mirrors! ARRGGG these mirror suck!

JonnyB, I got your email brother and I am shopping it around. As for the Z, all the mods I see I like come from the UK or Ausie land. It seems pretty hard to find under belly cans and the like in the states. The bike is just too dagone quiet. I will have to put some effort into finding the mods, but I assure you I will.

I'm waiting for the 25th anniversary edition. Black and blue ones are everywhere. It should be here by the end of this month though. There's one at another dealership that is available. But they want $800 more than I'm paying at Stadium Yamaha. For $800, I can wait 3-4 weeks.

Do you have a link to that vid?

Did you say people are putting firebolt front fairings on those z's? I'll bet that looks trick.

I can't wait to see yours in person. I don't know anyone with one.

It was great getting to meet all of you and put some faces with the names. It was really cool to see so many people turn out for the dinner, and having Eric and the guys from Buell show up was a great bonus.

I keep my helmet on my desk---signature out---so I can tell people how cool it was to meet Eric and have him sign my bucket!

I've just landed in The Metroplex. Euless, specifically. Is there a weekly/bi-weekly/semi-weekly Buell thing here?

Dan,
Welcome we don’t have a set schedule. Someone occasionally takes the initiative and plans a ride. We do have an email list where we do most our planning so as to not fill this board. I’ll send you an email that you can respond to so you can be included. It looks like you were a week late, last Monday night you could have had dinner with Erik Buell.

Chris,no that was crazy eric, one of the other talent as they called us, will try and find the brochure and send ya a pic!
It was kind of funny, 'cause they didn't want us to hang off or look at the camera man(who was really cool,Kevin Wing), so it was a little difficult for me, but still great to get to ride and be paid(well) for it!
And glad to have ya, forest, I mean lootenanant!

Hey Dallas people,
LootenantDan is one of the coolest guys you could ever meet. All in Austin are bummed he is leaving us, but the good side is that we will probably come up to ride some time. Here is a pic of his bike that I felt like posting. In Austin, we call him- "The Butcher."
Ortega, we will be in touch with y'all as the plans for "Thrills..." come together.

To those that are a little curious about the dark side, I have some things to say. Take Note!

The Kawasaki Z1000 is an I4 pushing 128hp @10k and 74ftlbs @8k. The bike is pretty tame under 5200rpm's, then like most I4's tend to get slapped in the rear and kick out like a Russian race horse (aka Doped up). The front end is just a wheelie happy as the Buell's and pretty hard to keep down through the power band. I find the bike to feel like an import running NOS on the drag strip compared to launching in a 69' stang or Charger. The power hits a little late then tries to rip your arms out of their sockets. This bike doesn't really compare to my 00' R1. I find the R1 feels stronger under 5k and kicks out like a freakin raped ape at 6k to redline.

I can easily hit triple digits on the Z1000 in 2nd gear going into 3rd. I can feel every mph after about 100mph pushing my body back and trying to dislodge my helmet. Matter of fact I have been in several cycle shops looking at the Arai Corsair series, due to the slip stream that produce and the fit.
There is a pronounced vibration through the bike at 5500-6500 and then again at 10-11500k. I have been reading the boards and they all say put a bar snake inside the bars and run some bar weights. Others put dirtbike bars on with the cross brace. I don't feel it in the pegs, just the bars.
The bike is SUPER flickable and turns with almost zero counter steer. I find no hesitation to stick dropping in turns at high speed. I have spooled the tire coming out of the turns as it hits the power band, but this is common on my R1 and comes on very noticeable. I have no problem compensating for it by either, throttling out of it and let the rear track back in or trailing the rear brake.
The rear tire is a 190 50 17 and does cause some push in the turns. All the fast riders recommend going down a size to the 180 55 17. This is the stock tire on the new XB's.
There is a BIG need to get a taller windscreen to enable any type of triple digit riding. My M2 felt really stable at the 130-140mph range, the Z1000 is stable but moving around due to my input from trying to stay on the bike. LOL!
The best mods to get low rpm grunt are PCIII, Pair Slip ons or a 4-1 system. It will actually increase the low end trq and hp numbers on the dyno. Apparently the stock pipes are the best you can buy for a top end run. The after market pipes provide no gain in top end numbers.
The beauty of the bike is the Liquid Cooled, Oil Cooled combination heads (Alum.)that is finned. The Fuel injection is dead on with no twitchiness.
Handling is really on par with the XB, but you will have to stay in the upper RPM's (5200-7000) to stay with you guys in the corners. This is the exact point at which the bars vibrate and tend to become a pain. The dual disk front brake tends to feel a little mushy, but all the boards recommend bleeding the brakes and they will become a stout stopping force. The rear brake is really pronounced and after riding the Buell can get you in trouble really quick. I pulled the whole motard power slide several times commuting in traffic.

The bike is a hoot to drive and I am looking forward to riding with you guys to see how it stacks up.

So, C'mon! Let’s do a ride! Please.....

Micah

Micah, nice writeup. It sounds like you got the bike you wanted.

I'm game for a ride sometime soon. My wife and daughter are going out of town at the end of this month. So I'll have some free time. I might even have the 6 by then.

Perhaps we should get Blake to setup a new thread category: People Who Have Ever Owned a Buell, Yet Ride Other Bikes and Don't Hate Buell

Or maybe we should just setup our own forum and call it Xpercenters.com, because X% percent of the people who have owned a Buell wind up with something else while keeping their admiration for the brand and products. Heck, some of us may even keep our beloved mules.

On second thought, this thread is just fine with me. I'm just glad we're back to talking about riding motorcycles again.

Great right-up Micah and very much what I remember from when I rode them, deff agree on the windshield part, a royal pain trying to hang on, bars were too wide for me, I'd flick it into the corner too hard and scare myself, but truly a hoot to ride, and plenty fast!!!
And I'm ALWAYS up for a ride on ANYTHING, two wheels is two wheels, and motorcycle pals is forever!

Attn. Sunday Riders......
We are planning a ride down to Austin in March. We will be going down via I35 and returning Via 281. Top Speed will only be abut 70 mph but it will be VERY nice and alot of fun. In Austin we will stop at the HD-Buell dealership which is the largest Buell dealer in Texas. The ride will be on a sunday and will leave FTW about 7am. The date will depend on the weather so I wont know which weekend until about wednesday or thursday prior once the weather is forcasted. There are about a dozen harley folks already going and I don't want to be the only buell so if you can make a sunday ride with about a three day notice, be gone from 6am-6pm, and your bike will make it to Austin and back Please let me know so I can pencil you in and notify you of final plans.

It is Austin HD/Buell right on I35; Why? There is also talk of turning off at Georgetown and having lunch in Marble Falls at Blue Bonnet and returning 281.

Angela,
I was just wondering which dealership was the largest Buell dealer in Texas. I’ve been in Central HD/Buell several times but never Austin HD/Buell. I’m assuming when yall cut over to Marble Falls you’ll take 1431, which is halfway between Round Rock and Georgetown. The first 10 miles is well developed and boring but the next 40 miles between White Stone and Marble Falls is terrific, left, right, up, down, excellent! The Austin riders have said there’s a lot of law enforcement on that road. Last spring Lorna and I went down to see the Bald Eagles’ nest and we did see several law enforcement. I’ll be sailing every Sunday in March or I’d join you. If you’re hungry when yall reach Hico, the Koffee Kup has great pies. It was voted #1 for desserts in Ride Texas magazine.

Chris,
I think I’ll pass on this Saturday.
