Drake, I'm really thinkin about gettin some of these grip heater kits cause I'm gonna need to change them anyways probably before next season. Pretty cheap and I've heard some good things about them.

You know you could probably use those grip heaters if you could install them into your seat, maybe hook up some quick disconnects and put them in your gear or whatever...

10 years ago I had to sneak a yet to be released Buell from East Troy to Topeka. I flew into MKE on a Sunday afternoon and left the factory under cover of darkness.

I'd never ridden in cold weather and it got down to 19oF that night. I HAD to be in Topeka the next morning and learned a lot in one night.

All hail electrics!

It got down to 19F that night.

Ha! Serves you right!

Last April I bought a Cyclone from a dealer in PA, and flew up to ride it home. I never even considered shipping it because Court said motorcycles are ment to be ridden.

It was 23F when I left the dealership. I thought my gear was up for the task, but I was wrong. I have never been so cold in all my life.

But I wouldn't trade that experience. I spent the night with my Uncle in DC, and rode the rest of the way home the next day. There was snow on the side of I-95. I passed no other bikes in the state of Virginia. I did pass some bike trailers. Oh I was self rightious. I was the One True Biker in Virginia.

I'm sure you guys probably caught it on the news, but a 21 year old guy died on his bike on coal mine road yesterday. We've been up there before, and it is less than a mile from my office. I haven't heard all of the details, but what I have heard is that he went in to a tankslapper and was thrown into a light pole breaking his neck. No one has said what led to the tankslapper and I hate to speculate, but we all know what coal mine road is used for. He was wearing leathers and a helmet, but it wasn't enough to save his life. On the KCSB site many have made comments about how good of a rider he was, so it sounds like a freak accident that could happen to anyone. Just thought I would forward the news.

RIP

I think the cops are saying excessive speed. Apparently they watched it happen from a helo.

I can't say that I completely agree with you Lowflyer. I had a YZF at 21. I rode it for 3 seasons and 13,000 miles without anything more than a front yard tip over. It's not the bike, it's the person twisting the throttle. Our bikes will hurt you just as much and as quickly as the Japanese bikes will. He was on a Kawa 636 btw.

The story I picked up from KCSB is he was doing a highspeed stand up wheelie and had a wicked tank slapper when he came down..We all know the risks and play anyways...(although I try and keep all the highspeed wheelies kept to the fiddy)

You're right James, it's not a given. I agree that it's not the bikes. It is the combination of youthful exuberance, testosterone, an insatiable need to prove oneself, and invincibility coupled with with 100+ RWHp. Yeeeooww!!! I just sounded like my dad.

That is why the young guys at the track almost always kick ass. They lack the healthy fear that they will develop in their late twenties to early thirties after they see a few of their buddies bite it prematurely. It happened to me. Slaaam!!! Mortality in the face (age: 28 for me). I can sense that at least Larry knows what I'm talking about.

I don't want to be a smart azz, but, the dude was flying through there on a jap bike. A buell might have had a better shot making it through there. He appeared to be speeding, which we've all done, but I haven't heard by how much. A news camera this morning showed the path, and it looked like sand on both sides of the rode, & around the center line.

Speeding, sand, & showing off means your screwed.

R.I.P. indeed.

I'll hope this come across correctly.

I maybe showing my age, & I'm saying this as a parent, but I wonder a lot of the time if these one bike wrecks could be avoided with more training/pratice.

Any dip shite that can ride a bicycle, can usually get lucky & make it down the street, but to use your motorcycle to its limits takes practice.

Like the guy on the news said,"there's two kinds of riders, he one's that have gone down, & the one's that are goin' to go down."

"...bike wrecks could be avoided with more training/pratice."

I think it would have an impact for sure, but it is hard to overcome that feeling that a young man has that accidents always happens to other people. It won't happen to me.

That reminds me of a joke I heard once about a young paratrooper over Normandy in WWII listening to his sergeant say, "Men, one and three of you won't make it back."

The young man looked to the two older troops next to him with a very long face. Noticing the grim look, one of them asked, "What's the matter, son? Are you scared?"

The young man replied sadly, "Well no, didn't you hear the sarge? He just said one of you is definitely going to die."

Only if you ride at the "edge".

The young man did love to ride "hard".
He did not deserve what happened, but he would have no one to blame but himself.

He was a giving person, and was an active member of BACA since the Kansas City chapter began.

My only complaint was the blast of wind and sound that would hit me if I was behind him when he started his bike.

Funeral is Saturday.

The only distributor in KC is Engle Motors, Truman road several blocks west of 435.

Get a dual controller ($99), too.

That is where I got mine.

AW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

That's a shame, you know when I was riding the M2 this afternoon I was thinking to myself if you didn't ride today your either a dumbazz or you have your bike torn apart or both.

But seriously, when you get your wheels back, bring them by & I'll press in the new bearings for you and mount up some new snow tires on them for you.

Cause you guy's just wasted the warmest Jan. in 73 years. Thats right, the news just said the last time it was this warm was 1933.

This is why I support global warming, SCREW the next generations, I'm cold now. They're talking by Feb.8th. the bottom is going to fall out of this nice weather. See you boys in April.
