Fasttrax has booked Putnam Park (near Indianapolis) for May 22 and 23 That's a Monday and Tuesday.
May 22 is Endurance racing: 30 min. mini Endurance races and a 3 hr.
May 23 is Sprint races, and we have a spec. Buell class that runs two legs ala World Superbike racing.

Fasttrax is a club level racing organization out of Canton, Ohio that runs mostly at Nelson Ledges Road course near Warren, Ohio http://www.fastone.com The Buell class rules will be changed for 2006 so what's posted on the website is outdated. If anyone is interested, I can get you more info.

Anyone on Badweb interested?? Putnam is one kickass track.

Please send me additional information on your event. It sounds interesting. Putnam is our home track and we know it well. Our dealership has a couple of XB's we race. One is set up for sprints and the other we compete occasionally in FUSA Team Challenge events. Thanks.

If you have any questions that cannot be answered on the fastone website, contact the organizer, Bob Stanley at 330 494-8410.
Below is a draft of the rules for the Spec Buell class. There are other classes that a Buell can be run in if modifications exceed these rules.

General: Buells only, any year, any displacement.

1200cc Buells: ‘04 and later XB 1200 cc Buell’s must be raced with a stock engine, suspension, exhaust, intake and fuel system. IE, bike must be box stock, no race kit allowed.
Pre ’03 tube frame 1200cc models must be raced with a stock engine except any changes to the airbox, EFI and rear shock only are allowed. Any aftermarket muffler with stock header is also allowed.

1000cc Buells: 984 cc XB Buell’s must be raced with a stock engine except changes to the air box and EFI only are allowed. Any muffler with stock header is also allowed. Must run stock suspension systems but can be modified with valve kits, springs, etc.

Other than that, you can paint it any way you like and use any brand racing tire you want.

This class will run a 2-leg format of 2 ten-lap races with total point determining the day’s winner. This class will not be combined with any other classes for the days racing.

The event sounds great, but! The first thing any performance minded Bell owner does is change the exhaust and probably the shock. As coordinator of a BRAG club I know of several owners who would like to race in an event such as this but everyone of them has either an exhaust, air box or shock modification. It is probably next to impossible to find a large number of "100%, bone stock" Buell owners. I own an '05 XB that is race preped for CCS. It's stock except for the pipe and intake which is probably the same changes as the majority of track enthusiast. I also own a '99 X1 with shock, air box and pipe changes also. This one I can run, right? How about running a "modified" class? Stock displacement bikes with any external modification? That way my '99 X1 could run with the XB's. I feel you would have a greater rider turnout. Is an aftermarket exhaust and spring really a great advantage? Just something to think about. Look forward to the races.

This class started out last year as a "spec" class, only XB9's, and only allowed the race kit and racing tires. It was designated a senior class - 45 yrs. old or older. The idea behind it was to have a class for us older guys with the bikes being very equal as far as performance, focusing on rider skill to make the difference. Also keeping the cost down by limiting modifications.

Participation was not as good as we would have liked (only three riders, four but one got hurt), so we are opening it up to get more participation. No age limit and allowing the 1200cc Buells in, we are trying to make the playing field as equal as possible for the 984cc to compete with the 1200's. That is why the xb12's are so restricted - an xb9 with intake and exhaust mods is pretty close to a stock xb12.

A lot of things can be changed if we have enough participation. We have talked about and will split this class (XB9/XB12) (Junior/Senior) if the number of entries make sense. I would love to see this series grow.

The rules I posted above are in the draft stage, IE not carved in stone. The input that you have given here is valuable to us in shaping this class. Can you give me an idea of how many Buell racers in your area would be interested in this event, and what they plan on entering, along with the modifications? Anyone interested in making the trek to Nelson Ledges for the other series races?

Regarding your '99 X1, what do you have done to it that would not allow it in this class?

Thanks for your response. I can not put a finger on the number of Bullers willing to participate as of yet. We are having our monthly meeting this coming Saturday, Jan. 14 at 12 noon. I will put this out and we'll see what type of number we can come up with. I personally know of at least 3 to 5 who are up to the challenge, but come up just short of the qualifications. I'll work from my end to try and get a decent "local" showing. I would love to see this happen more often in our area!
Thank you.

The final draft of our 2006 rulebook is up on fastone.com, and the rules for our Buell Thunderbike class have been changed quite a bit (opened up) from my earlier post here. If you plan on running with us at Nelson Ledges or Putnam, feel free to take a look and post your input here, thanks.

Rules and regs looking much better! I see the cost of $75 to "join" but what is the cost to race, (gate fee, class entry fee ect.), at the Putnam date?

Fasttrax license fee is $75, $65 if you get it 30 days before the first scheduled race.
Bob Stanley of Fasttrax said entry fees & gate fees will be the same as what is listed in the rulebook for Nelson Ledges.

Just a reminder to you guys over in the Putnam Park area, The Putnam Fasttrax event is just 3 weeks away. Monday & Tuesday, May 22 & 23. It is the only motorcycle racing event at Putnam this year, and if it is a success, Fasttrax will get more weekend dates next year. Bob said you guys can buy a "one event" Fasttrax license for $25. If you pre-enter for the sprint races on Tuesday, you can practice with the endurance riders on Monday AM for free. see www.fastone.com for schedule information, or call Bob Stanley 330-494-8410 Hope to see some new Buell faces there!

XB9/Dave,

thanks for posting the information about the race. We had a great time and fasttrax should be commended...awesome group of people and very well run program. (I won't mention tech where we were instructed to safety wire the primary chain adjuster!). again, a super organization full of good people we hope to run with again soon. It was great to get back to Putnam again and was nice to see the big Buell turn out. The endurance race was a blast. Wish we could have stayed for Tuesday...

Thanks for coming out and glad you had a good time! In the sprints on Sunday Josh Guyer's primary adjuster nut came loose in the second leg of the Buell race. I was trying to keep up with him running in second, and started noticing his bike smoking, especially in the left handers. Then I started to notice a film on my faceshield! Luckily it wasn't enough to make things slippery, but shows the importance of making sure that anything that could cause a fluid leak is safety wired.

Sounds like we might get some weekend dates at Putnam next year, what a nice facility and great track. I had a blast!
