The XBRR is based on a street version, its called the whole XB line up. The only difference is it is available from the factory in race trim. I can buy an XB9 or 12 and buy all the parts to get comparable power, braking and suspension. If there is a rule infraction I cannot buy a CBR600 and get ANY HRC kit parts. The Honda FX bike and the Honda street bike are totally different... I was waiting for this crap EVERY single time Buell steps up to the plate either the series changes or the rules prevent the bike from being competitive. And Rich- Im trying to read between the lines and it sounds like you are getting a very smelly end of the stick. I know racing costs money, alot of it,aside from that is anyone going to physically prevent you from entering your bike in the Daytona 200?? |

Then you say the BMW K1200S is only putting out 122hp. BMW on the other hand is claiming 167hp Nope. The BMW K1200S is in fact rated at 167 at the crank. But it's the forthcoming R1200S which is rated as 122hp. Note the the K bike is an i4 engine and the R is a flat twin (aka "boxer"). ( The boxer is slated for April availability here in the U.S.) There is going to be an "HP" (high performance) version of the R for '07 but any I am not aware of any hard data yet suggesting what the hp/torque numbers will be. |

Most of the K-S's tested have put out about 145-150 rwhp. |

If thats the case where is the F*&^ing rule infraction.... I CANNOT BUY 1 part from Honda to build myself an FX bike. You know what screw the AMA screw all this crap, I hate the FX class which is a sorry excuse for racing anyway. Formula Extreme should equal ANY POWER UNIT on anything with 2 wheels, thats extreme. When I was growing up the Daytona 200 was a showcase of exotic, crazy bikes that pushed the envelope. I even enjoyed the Superbikes doing it. A 600 is a far cry from that. Last year I did not watch ONE AMA race cause the whole series is boring crap. The best racing was Formula USA - Any class especially Thunderbike. Weight/power ratio and alot of good riders. You had to see it live cause there was no TV coverage of some of the closest racing that exists today. Venting complete |

"AMA Pro Racing sources said this week that based on the fact that the rules for an air-cooled Twin in Formula Extreme are so wide, and allow for so many modifications, that it is their belief that the XBRR is legal for the Formula Extreme class." Rules and interpretation..... what AMA pro racing interprets is all that matters. And I am SURE Erik has qualified the XBRR with the AMA before releasing it... |

If thats the case where is the F*&^ing rule infraction.... That's my point. IMHO it's people bitchin to bitch. Buell has almost as many haters as they do lovers. I've not seen any other bike cause as much passion (positive or negative) as the Buell brand. Add to that some race gas, and you've got yourself a big ol' flame. |

<am SURE Erik has qualified the XBRR with the AMA before releasing it> NAH, he would go to all this trouble just for fun, after all he has never had the AMA pull the rug out from under him in the past |

Hey Court, Since you mentioned it, what's the story of the "damages done to a poor innocent Goldwing" ? Not to hi-jack the thread, but it could use a little levity. I agree with the point point that a full-on factory Honda race bike is NOT a model you can buy and ride on the street either. |

I should mention ONE other thang... As much as I truly believe that the AMA's FX class makes no sense, I would ride the XBRR in that series if I had the opportunity... Just cuz bench racing is one thing but racing is another... Holding that American Vtwin WFO and passing as many of those Foriegn based bastards would be a dream come true!!!! This Buell and ANY Buell on any track ANY class makes a statement, we are the Few and the Proud. We can build the most kick a$$ aircraft on earth, the biggest baddest ships, the toughest tanks WHY shouldnt we have an American Bike at the top of some podium with the rest of the world with their watercooled 4 valver's scratching their heads knowing they just got smoked by 1903 technology..... |

It seems that there is many jealous people out there.Everyone's crying about not getting THE bike. If these certain people were the the best at building a killer Buell, than why weren't you out there racing one last year.Instead of being happy to see an American bike back in the sport we created just keep crying and complaining. All I know is I'll be watching the 200 cheering for Buell no matter what team is racing the bike.I know there is other people that won't be so cheerful but they'll be busy sucking each other off to notice the BUELL kickin' a$$ |

AMA or JMA? I hope that they don't change the @#$#@$ rules again so that the xbrr winds up DQ on some Tech Shiznit It would be nice to cheer for an american brand rather than Ducati, I rooted for them just because they were not japan inc. GO BUELL! |

>>>>"damages done to a poor innocent Goldwing" And levity it will add. I suppose it's time this story can be told. In a time when Dave Gess had dark hair and Erik and I had abs, there was a guy I used to hear referred to as "Mr. Japan". He was wanting to import, in fact had imported some Buells and was a prime potential customer for more. Erik Buell was his guest in Japan and he wanted to go for a little ride. Mr. Japan tool the RR and foolishly provided Erik with his Goldwing and told him to follow. Now....(commence flashback) MANY of us know better than to send Erik out on our bikes. My personal lesson came, forunatley with me half a continent away, when Erik got in a pissin' match while aboard my beloved Barny (there's another GREAT story there) but suffice to say, if you want to see your motorcycle do things you may have thoght it incapable of, loan it to Erik. Anyway....off go Mr. Japan and Erik. Erik was not about to let the fellow out of his sight and, to that end, not only drug, but removed, many very nice well engineered hard parts from the victim Wing. The story is sketchy and Erik'll likely deny it, but, like many urban legneds, it's resurfaced a number of times from fairly credible sources and is beginning to lack "plausible denyability". We're back. Court |

We would had LOVED to have one, but there are only two west coast FX races and we have a competitive AFM F4 bike now. So with only 25 available in the USA they went to teams who can and will race FX. Our dream was to race the two FX events and own the AFM open twin class as well as the F4 class with the little engine. That combo would have given our rider a chance at two class wins and a Top Five AFM plate. ... So we will be here cheering the Buell Team and all the Dealer Teams on as well. ... When These Things Win .... We All Win. ... Terry |

be careful of what you read on superbike planet, dean adams isn't very fond of Buell, actually he's kind of a dickhead. If there is a way to be abrasive, they will be. Best of Luck at Daytona, Buell. We appreciate your hard work. |

Liberty HD&Buell with my self aboard the xbrr will only race the CCS and ASRA events, just for the simple fact that i've only been racing for three year and last year was my first ride on a xb12r. With that i have two win a second 2 thirds one forth and a fifth place finish . Before that i did $hit. Its not just the rider it the bike} |

I really like Dean Adams and the Superbikeplanet site. Great info on superbike and GP racing. Also great insight on how the AMA has fragmented the classes and top racers to the point where there is no longer a meaningful premier class in AMA. No real reason they should be big Buell fans up to this point. The site is primarily devoted to racing's highest levels, which Buell has not exactly dominated up to this point. Maybe future results will win them over. |

Leave it to the most revolutionary Buell model to polarize its fans this way. This subject will likely get beaten like the proverbial horse. I'm sorry Rich feels the way he does, but I'm trying to understand the statement "Buell doesn't owe me anything". If you are looking for something, ask for it. The XBRR is absolutely legal to race in Formula Xtreme, and it is not a "Factory Race Team", it is a race bike built by the factory, available to dealers & privateers to race in SEVERAL classes, including Formula Xtreme. The reason more XBRR models were reserved for US dealers is because Buell is more popular overseas! I don't think they would want to starve the market they are trying to get the most sales out of, and are home-based in. All the teams may not compete in all the Formula Xtreme circuits, but I don't think more than 3 riders raced in all the Formula Xtreme courses in 2005. I believe that they will make a good showing throughout the season. Serious engineering, serious riding talent, and serious $$$ are involved, and that is not cost effective for one race at the beginning of the season. Keep in mind, Buell American Motorcycles may be owned by Harley-Davidson, but they are a small company, home to some incredibly intelligent & talented engineers that are passionate about the product. The do not have the resources to completely build a new engine from the ground up at this time, and Erik & Co. are proficient at caressing as much power from 45 degree Sportster engine. Keep in mind, the magic number for horsepower on an air cooled motor is to achieve 1 hp per cubic inch. Buell has almost DOUBLED that! Those that think this is outdated technology need only look at last years' LeMans to see a Corvette with a pushrod valve train win (if not dominate)in it's class. It was encouraging to see so many rally behind the XBRR at its debut, and incredibly disheartening to see Buell enthusiasts begin doubting, if not outright condemning its capabilities a mere 24 hours after that. I rally behind Buell because he is the only American manufacturer of sport bikes (and we Scandinavians tend to gravitate towards each other). The XBRR has the complete support of our dealer, and I will be wearing every Buell article, waving every Buell flag, and cheering every Buell rider this year, because I believe in their product and the future of their enterprise. I hope all the faithful will join me, because division & negativity do nothing to get us on the podium. |

Two key thoughts occurred to me while reading Court's most recent post . . . - No motorcycle with as much plastic as the GL1800 will ever deserve to be called innocent. - Erik Buell on a motorcycle produces a Chuck Norris-like power. |

Erik Buell does not sleep. He waits. Helen Keller's favorite color was Erik Buell. Erik Buell can ride on water. Water gets stiff out of fear when his bike is near. The chief export of Erik Buell is speed (the fast kind). What ya got? |

I hope that they don't change the @#$#@$ rules again so that the xbrr winds up DQ on some Tech Shiznit If you go with the theory that racing is about getting publicity, think of all the ways Buell could spin that. "See the bike Honda doesn't want to race against" |
