I test rode a '06 Long this weekend. The dealer wouldn't budge on price ($11,200 out the door). Is this typical? A guy at work is selling his 2004 monster 620 for $6000 (approx. 1200 miles) and I know he takes care of his bikes. I have not ridden this bike. I realize this is a Buell site but there is a huge source of information here. Which way to go? Buell is pretty much maintenance free, more power, more money! thanks |

For a Buell call Dave @ appleton Harley. He is one of the sponsors here. Do a search and type in Daves just to get a starting point on how good this guy is to buy from. You will be impressed. I bought one from him and It was a way better deal than 11k. Plus the cust service afterwards is good to go. Although 6k for that Duc doesnt sound bad either. Good luck |

I never tried a Monster 620 but I had a Ducati 750SS a few year ago and there was 2 things I didn't like. The power was really not enough and the maintenance was $$$. It's not because I have now a Buell but a XB12Ss will be a LOT more fun than a Monster 620. With the 620, you'll miss the torque and the power of the Buell. ... and the Buell look so much better! |

You might also consider a leftover or slightly used 04 or 05 XB9S or XB12S. The price would be much closer to the Ducati but you'd still have more power and less maintenance. |

You can get a much better deal on the Buell, shop around. I love Ducati`s but the 620 Monster is underpowered and has some cheesy suspension plus your friend is asking alot for it. The list on a new 06 Monster 800 with single sided swingarm is only $8500 is you have to have a Monster. |

I live just four blocks from the local Ducati Dealer and they are really cool Bikes however, I bought the Buell 06 XBSs L o n g for many reasons. The price You have, if it is including freight and taxes is High, they must be starting at list of 10,495.00 plus plus. Do Your homework starting with a search on the Cycle Trader, get some other prices, and work from those price points. I am very happy with the Buell XBSs, the L o n g version is just what the doctor ordered for me, time will tell but, I feel that I made the right move for My situation. |

My buddy who rides a 900 Monster tells me the 600 he used to own (prior to the 620s) actually felt a bit quicker, in a way. Power...well, there are lots of guys who'll tell you all of us riding Buells are missing out on the power of a Japanese literbike. You have to decide how much you need (or want). That said, I'd certainly consider a Monster 620 for my wife (or preferably a Multistrada)--they're relatively light, have a easy-pulling slipper clutch, and are aimed at the entry rider. Duc owners often say the high cost of maintenance is a myth (kinda like the poor reliability of Buells), at least with the 2-valve engines, and especially if you do the work yourself. Keep in mind, there are lots of SV650s around for sale cheap, and that'll give you more power in a comparable chassis to the Monster (or so I'm told). If you need a Monster, the 800 someone mentioned above would probably be a better choice--but if you want the better bike, buy the Buell. |

I've got an 03 XB9S that I bought August of last year, I also have a 2000 Ducati Monster 750 Dark. I absolutly love the power of the Buell in the corners and the sound is second to none. However the Duc is what it is, it's a Duc. Either you want one or you don't, there isn't much of an in between. I've had the Monster for over a year and would have a hard time selling it, the maintenence issue is not really that bad. I would recommend letting the dealer do the valves at least, just something about the desmo ya know? |

Again, thanks for the input. My heart is not in the Ducati, so sounds like I just have to find a better deal. There actually is a Long listed on Cycle Trader. |

If the bike is $10,400 taking in consideration set up fees, documentation fees, tax and license, $11,200 would be a discount price OTD. You may be able to due better. Show the dealer what you are willing to pay. If the dealer won't move, you move to another dealer. |

first thing: the M620 is a great bike. notice the period after that sentence. My wife has the baby Monster, it is a flawless motorcycle, i cant fault it in any way. the air cooled Ducati is low maintenance, easy to work on, and an all around GREAT BIKE. I ride an XB12S, also a most excellent motorcycle, a bit more power, a lot easier on fuel, a bit more maintenance intensive, and all around the most fun street bike i have ever ridden. I paid a bunch for my Lightning, had to have one right away, so paid list price for it. the real key is to get what YOU want. personally ( and that IS what motorcycles are all about is personality) i really really really like my Buell, and want to add an S2R to the fleet, to keep the Lightning company. |

I don't know where you are located, but I just bought an '06 XB12Ss from Rossmeyer's H.D. in Daytona Beach for $10,600 OTD. Like the other guy said, just call around. Some dealers seem to just want to get rid of them. By the way, I love mine. I've had about 10 Jap sportbikes over the years, and I test road a Ducati Monster (800cc) before I bought the Buell, and I'm glad I did. While the Duc is a nice bike, it didn't seem to have as much power, and the handling was too twitchy for me. Not to mention the maintainence issues. I'm really glad I bought the Buell. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that I wish it had a tad more power, but I guess this is to be expected after just having gotten rid of an '04 R1 which cranked out 180hp. |

any one riding a STOCK Buell and telling you that the M620 is "underpowered" is blowin smoke. In top gear roll on, the wife on her M620 can stay ahead of my XB12 until over a 100, then i can catch and pass her. if she down shifts to 5th she will pull at least 20 yards lead. the XB has a bit more on top end. they are both excellent street bikes, and i would not hesitate to saddle either up for a thousand mile weekend. |

LEUB da B: this pretty much sums it here "My heart is not in the Ducati" Clearly you NEED a BUell. This I understand, I have the same condition. |

As a Duc lover who has had the opportunity to test ride several variations of the Monster(620, 800, S2R) and a 748, I think you would be disappointed with the 620 if you are looking at the Ss. Although I ended up purchasing a 12R, the Ss was an amazing bike in all aspects and every time I see the Redbody/Redwheel combo it pulls on my heart strings. It just feels like a more substantial bike. That said, if I were going to go with a Duc I wouldn't venture any lower than the S2R. |

Fullpower, do you think that might have anything to do with the fact that your wife is riding it? Less weight? I had a M750 and my CityX will kill it, everywhere. The Buell also has FAR better build quality, fit, and finish. It is superior machine all around. And don't think I'm biased to American products being better. I don't care for Harleys but I'm a lover of most things Italian when it comes to machinery. When it comes to the streets, Buell just makes a better bike. |

My other bike is a Monster 900, and I can tell you that even at 500lbs (versus about 430 for my Monster) my XB12X is nearly as quick as my Ducati. The 620 WILL NOT hang with an XB12 (or 9 for that matter) with the same size rider and skill level. I'd say they will handle about the same, but when the road goes straight, the torque and HP the Buell has will leave the Monster 620 for dead. Unless the Buell is only running on one cylinder or something. |

you could find a nice used xb9 for less than 5500 and might even have a race kit. and a used xb12 for less than 8,000 -- a nice deal is listed in the classified section contact Dave and see what he has in stock. IMO buy a used bike with a race kit ---save some money and get a great bike |

My mate has an S2R 800 monster... It's puss compared to the XB12S. It's very user friendly, (read: uninspiring) and progressive (read: sluggish). It can, like any bike, be hussled along and i have had some neat fun on a 620 monster, but my mate secretly wishes he'd bought the race kitted XB9S that was for sale at the same time. But he HAD to have a monster. I know which looks better. |

I purchased a M620 for my Daughter as her first bike, if you are in the twisty's it is a good bike, but in Idaho, I have tried to ride it on the freeway, and it was lucky to make it to 80mph. I don't see where anyone can compare the 620 ducati to a XB12SS. It isn't in the same league. My description of it is it is a good beginner bike. Beyond that it is bullet proof, but no way it could stay in front of the SS IMHO. |

The XB12 is almost twice the capacity of the 620!! And I can say from experience, after being used to the XB12S, the M620 will drag the side stand through left handers, and the corner of the silencer through right handers... |

lol the kickstand was sinking into the sand, so he kicked off his boot... it was either that or take a walk down the beach for a bit of driftwood, and that would mean physical exertion, and that is against his religion... hehe |
