I hope Der Hund wins the pot...er, pool. If HD ever finds the balls to let this motor out of the laboratory I will eat my Buell hat and kick up my heels. Did you see Speedvisions documentary "Victory By Design"? An impressive partner to take your antique Air-Cooled engine into the modern world, I would say. |

Jose: I suspect a blast type (backbone style) frame would not be able to adequately carry the twin sportbikes; it would be a big step backwards as far as stiffness and strength go. I bet you are correct that the XR platform gets replaced by the twin-blast version, good call there. It looks like HD will be competing with downsized TR and Superhawk engined trackers so a new/improved twin makes sense. I think it would be real tough for a stock commercial (read EPA approved) 3.5" x 3.125" air/oil-cooled twin (60 IN^3, 1000cc) to make 100+ rwhp... A 1200cc engine though... yeah baby! Why would Buell go from a 45 to 50 degrees V?... Could it possibly be to fit-out a kickbutt larger bore, shorter stroke, high revving, 1200cc power plant? I hope so. Rim Brakes: Potentially could reduce front wheel weight since brake forces would transfer directly to rim bypassing carrier, hub and spokes. Ti: Expensive! Useful for the valves themselves to reduce mass/inertia, but steel is much stiffer and so probably preferable for the extensive pushrod valvetrain. How 'bout a SSSArm? Someone already was wishing for that stylish option. Stiffer in torsion, but much less so for thrust loads. Mostly a style accessory from what I can see. I'd upgrade to one at purchase if it was less than $300 extra compared to a conventional swingarm. What do you say Mr. Canfield? |

I say there are two elements of truth in one of the above posts, zero in another. I have better news that ANY of the "specification speculation" and that is that Buell (Erik, not the company) is unlikely to allow anything out the door w/o a high comfort level of avoiding a 1999 repeat. Like a Wendy's burger.....there's gonna have to be some meat, but it'll also require an attractive shiny wrapper and some coupons in the bag. The slope is steep. Call me an eternal optimist, but I'm betting on Erik. Court P.S. - Perimeter brakes are neat but are just one of the things EFB was fiddling with circa 1987. Erik knows more about brakes than he's showing at the moment. |

Blake, Ok, I'll revise my revver specs to be 3.75" bore x 3.125" stroke (1135cc). Still must reach 100 hp and weigh 400 lbs wet. The torquer option (3.75" x 3.6") works out to about 1304cc. Th 50 degree V is purely to make room for the airbox under the tank. I forgot to say that I hope they counterbalance this thing, and that it will have the swingarm pivot cast into the engine like the Blast!. I think the Blast! frame can be made stiff enough for twin bike use. The current Blast! frame is "relatively close" to the X1 frame according to Buell. Just increase the main frame tube to 3" x 4" and brace as needed. Increasing the main frame tube will also give greater oil capacity. Titanum valvetrain will be a "BUELL PRO SERIES" option. That's it, I won't change the rest of it, no matter what Court says! |

Engine Displacement Calculator Gear Ratio Calculator And finally, Horsepower = torque x rpm / 5252 |

So long as the new engine is air/oil cooled, I'm interested...very interested. If not, well, then I guess I will need to go with the older XR based models, warts and all. Though the Blast based twin sounds like a very good call. But why 50 degrees? Why not 60? |

One more formula: Piston Speed = 0.166 x Stroke (inches) x RPM Don't go over 4,500 ft/sec! |

My money is on aircooled, overhead cams, at least 125hp at the rear and lighter than a R1. M2 to be phased out (at least in the UK) and new bike to run along X1. |

For you conspiracy theorists out there: Do you think this bike is on the Buell webpage by accident?

Is that WillieG standing there? I wonder if he's taking notes again about what people are doing to their bikes. On the new engine, just a thought, but how long do you think the knife/fork piston rod technology will survive, and could the 50° angle have anything to do with it? Just a thought. |

To heck with Wille G...look who is standing on the right (Willie's left in the photo). HINT: He hired Erik Buell in his firt engineering job at Haryel-Davidson and lives in NYC. |

Forget an even 1/2 faired bike that's air cooled. But I want one! |
