Lonexb how long have you had your headers coated? Are they standing up good? How did you ship them? Thanks DC. |

Djcrysler my header has been coated for about one year now. about 13k miles on it(the header being coated). i would have to say that it look as good as the day i put it on the bike. as far as shipping goes. i bought a header already coated from Al. switched them onto my bike and returned the old header. Al made sure to send a label and voucher for me to stick on the box and drop of at UPS. it was real simple and easy. a more recent pic...

Absolutely, Brian. The absence of heat and the great appearance makes header coating a terrific upgrade... |

How difficult is it to remove the pipe? Front cylinder is a no brainer but I am concerned about getting to the rear. |

I had my cars turbo coated by www.swain-tech.com Though I think the type of finish wouldn't be the best for a bike. It's kinda course and might hold grime.. Plus it only comes in white. Looks good on my diesel turbo that heats up past 1200 degrees when I run 22 pound of boost! |

If it's just for looks, you can't beat the cheap/easy route I just took. I sprayed the header, on the bike, with Plastikote Header Paint. I used the same flat black I used to touch up my spec. ops pipe. Just masked EVERYthing off with tape and towels and applied about 3-4 even coats. Then it calls for running it for an hour to cure. It looks awesome, and you absolutely can't tell it was done on the bike, Took me an hour to mask perfectly, and cost 15 bucks maybe. Lemme know if you want pics...I'll take a couple today. TK |

Thanks for the tip, Tommy. You got one sweet looking scooter there, and definitely win the award for greatest looking, and least expensive header treatment. I am going to looking into that material myself. Do they have other colors, like silver? Did you get it at your local hardware store, or did you order it on the net? |

Thanks for the compliment guys! Appreciate that. Jon, I believe most all hi-temp paints come in silver too. Not sure about the other colors. I got mine at the local auto parts store. Be sure to watch out for "lesser" hi-temps though...some are made to paint engine blocks and the like, and will only be good to 500-700* F. Look for something that specifically says safe for exhausts...most will be in the 1200-1500* F range. Again, I can't stress how easy it really was once I just sat down and started taping. Just drape towels where you can for large areas. I then used some paper shop towels to pull through some of the tighter areas and taped em up. And just use some of the wide 3" masking tape for the rest...really didn't take long at all. Good Luck, TK |

Looks nice!! How many miles do you have on the pipes in that pic? I am thinking about the same but I am curious to how it will look 4-5k miles later.. Thanks (Message edited by sgthigg on January 02, 2006) |

Sgt, Maybe 1K, just under. But that's the nice thing about the paint. If I get a bug cooked on there...I'll scrub it off, draw a towel up behind it and hit it with the paint...good as new. Definitely not ceramic coating guys, but I was sick of the multi colored header, and this fixed it nicely in an hour, and the paint was already on my shelf...no brainer for me. TK |

I'm sending mine to Jett-Hot. $120 silver ceramic coating and guaranteed for 3 years. $160 if I have them do the muffler too. Jet Hot coats inside and outside for better heat retention. I'll post pics as soon as I get it done. I'm sending them out this week. Turnaround is just a matter of shipping time. So they say. We'll see. |
