Attached pic is of my Uly after less than 10 miles on a wet dirt/gravel road. I know it's been mentioned here before, but the high mount front fender doesn't appear to be very effective. Even worse if this had have been at night my lights would be been totally covered in mud and all but worthless in no time (and I've had this experience before).

Since it's too cold to ride I thought I'd start a topic to see what other front fender options there were. I already have a regular Lightning front fender on order that I'm going to try.

So what other ideas do folks have out there? Especially all you aftermarket parts folks on the board.

Is that from the front wheel kicking up mud? You'd think the fender would catch that.

It doesn't. When you're riding at night in the wet you can see all the spray coming up off the front tire and over the beak on to the headlights

Well, I'm working on one, but the tuning stuff has slowed my progress on body parts of late.

I'm marrying an XB front fender to an S2 front fender. It'll have the larger size of the S2 fender, with the mounting provisions of the XB fender, with some additional fork-tube protection and stiffness added. Here is a picture of the roughed out fender plug, still lots of work to go.

It'd be interesting to see if an Acerbis dirt bike fender could be modified to work. Get some extra length, extra width and a bit more curl and I think that problem could be attenuated to a great extent.

Maybe some brushes mounted to the underside of the lower fender would help.

looking at Homer's pic i kinda wonder about buell's uly adv testing.. Al's got the right idea. bimmers have been doing fenders that way for awhile.

Hey, Al; the hell with the dyno; let's get that fender into production. I did my New Years Day ride, and after a 1/2 hour , the TOP of my front fender was covered with salt and sand. The stock beak just isn't doing the job.

I bet an Acerbis fender would be easy to modify, you would just have to fool with it a bit to get it to look right.

KTM - SuperMoto front fender with an EXC fender support. Longer in the front and back,support for stability at speed. Comes in gloss black also. Might want to check it out !

Actually, the KTM product looks pretty good it doesn't have the droop that the acerbis unit does.

I can't see that KTM fender/beak being any better. The spray goes out and then up and over.

Looking at the beamer pictures, it appears that the answer to the spraying problem is a longer lower fender, not a longer upper fender.

Appears that Al is taking that approach in his prototype also.

You've got to direct the tire spray downward to the road and the only means to do that is a close fender that wraps well past the top of the tire. The back wheel could use the same sort of fender. I hope they take care of this design flaw so that we can buy the next generation fenders from Buell.

I have used the previously mentioned KTM set-up on my two previous adventure bikes(Tiger,KTM 950) without any "splashing" on the headlight area. Both bikes were running a 21" front wheel though. The mentioned fender is considerably wider at the front than it appears. You can also take a black plastic 5 gallon bucket, some rivets and create an extension for the back of the fender if required. If I add a ULY to the stable this will be the first mod for non-pavement riding.
