I've got a race pipe and k&n on the way, and I'm planning on chopping up the airbox lid, but that will certainly be all the mods for a while. Couple of questions as I was going through the KV last night...

1.) if you get a PCIII or a Techlusion, you don't necessarily need the race ECM right?

2.) Do they work better with the stock ECM?

3.) Would one if these systems be a better investment than just getting the race ecm?

I think with just the race pipe and K&N the best solution would be the race ecm.

That's the system the race ecm was made for.

I agree with what M1combat said.

When I installed my PC3 (first I did it with the stock ECM then the Race ECM) I did notice a difference in fuel added with the race ecm

PLus, the stock ECM tapers the throttle back to idle much more slowly than the "race" ECM does.

I agree with the others.

The problem with the PCIII as I understand it is that it will play tug of war with the ECM if you use the stock oxygen sensor (when in closed loop mode), so you would have to get another sensor which adds cost. Also there seems to be a lack of proven maps for the xb.

The TFI is much more simple and is only capable of adding fuel, not leaning the mixture as can the PCIII. It does not change the spark advance curve either. While some have had problems, my early unit has worked great since day one (although I don't cruise it much at all). It is designed for the stock ECM, but will work with the race ECM.

All said though, the race ECM for the xb9 seems to work well and was designed for your setup except for the airbox cut. Also you should be able to tweak it in the near future with some new tools that have just come out. Talk to Al at American Sport Bike. I believe he is doing some testing...

The PCIII does work well with the O2 sensor, but yeah, I'd wait for the tuner from American Sport Bike : ).

That said... with that setup, Race filter and race can, you should ONLY need the race ECM. That's exactly the setup it was designed for. The 12 airbox won't really make enough difference that you'll have a VERY lean spot so you'll be good.

American Sport Bike (Al) has some good news...
