Ok guys, I know some of you might know about my height woes. I bought an '05 XB9SX a couple months ago and have been struggling with my 5'2"'n change stopping issues. I have FOUND the solution to my problems. So for the short riders out there, who want to get pretty flat footed, here is a link to the boots I got. http://www.rivithead.com/product_info.php/products_id/111 As stated they are 3 1/2 inch platforms. The tread is amazing, very street worthy heavy duty soles. They're not ultra heavy boots..yeah, they're pretty gothy looking, but who cares when you have stability. You'll have to get used to shifting with the lip of the boot, but I've been doing that from the get-go anyhow. Otherwise the boots work excellent. I took the bike out tonight to practice and I feel like I just conquered the world! Thank you everyone for all your help, and suggestions. I'm actually going to go for my first real ride this weekend..so wish me luck!!! I just learned to ride two months ago..first time on a bike ever...and I'm in love!!! HUGS to everyone, Angela |

Those damn things cut into my calves after about an hour of riding. Now I only wear open toe high heels. |

wooo.. damn.. those are funky boots!! Isn't it hard to shift!? I'm the same height as you but over the years I've learned that the key to stopping for shorties is: 1: keep the front wheel straight 2: take both feet of the pegs when you arent sure which way the bike is going to lean when stopped. Hey.. Angela.. is that you? This is Gino.. (Message edited by ginzero on December 06, 2005) |

Hey guys.. Gino, yep..it's me Ang!! I shift with the lip of the boot, it's got enough edge on it, that it's easy to do. The boot doesn't go underneath, but I don't have a problem with that. Buellin' - whoa..PLEASE take pictures.. work it baby.. I hope you paint those toes to match your bike!! Pwnzor - I'll take a pic..any special outfit, or just how they look on the bike? Dago I love'em..they do rock out! |

Careful with that shifting, it doesn't seem safe if you can't get your toe underneath the shifter. I vote for tight leather outfit!

Wow, with boots like that I could finally ride a Uly! But, umm, I think my buddies would die laughin'. I think this is a solution that only works for you gals... but if it means the difference between riding and not riding, then its a good thing. Dave at Appleton H-D has custom-built some XB12RL (low suspension) bikes. Perhaps he could also modify a CityX? |

Am I the only one that envisions bad things happening? If you need boots like that, you've got the wrong motorcycle and not enough experience for it. As a beginner, you need to develop good habits right away - I can see those boots getting in the way for quick access to the shift and brake pedals. Sorry to be a downer. |

You may also want to consider the negative effects of a fall while wearing those boots. The leverage of those soles could do major damage to your ankles. Otherwise; I am looking forward to pictures. |

You guys are too cool! DJ, you're probably right on the whole, BUT.. I got the bike, I'm not trading it for something else, I can ride it just fine, it was stopping that was kicking my butt. Yes, I'm a new rider, but I'm a quick learner and I have an excellent practice partner. He takes me to a great big park'n'ride lot and I just practice the hell out of everything..it's very important to me to get the feel and the muscle memory for riding this bike. I trust his judgement immensely and I know he won't let me go beyond my skill level before I'm ready. The boots are extremely stable and I feel really comfortable with them. When I first got them, I just sat on the bike and practiced the foot controls, so I could find where all the right places to put my foot would be. I do appreciate your concern, dude..thankyou! As for all the SCG suggestions..I did talk to DaveS about it, and before slapping down several hundred dollars and modifying the bike, I wanted to give the boots a chance..and they worked. If in time it seems like the 1.5 inch lowering option would be better, I will do it. Gino..The boots are actually Men's boots..you'd look great in them..let'em laugh..they do have a very similar women's version, but the soles do not have the excellent treading of the men's.. luckily I have a store here that sells them, so I was able to try them on. As for getting my toe underneath the shifter, I know it may sound unorthodox, but I learned the edge of the boot shifting from day 1, after the MSF class of course, and it's a reflex now, so I go with it! Blake..well, aren't you sweet..and without getting too personal..uh..yeah, I am sorta that kinda girl..lol..I have invested lots of money into leather clothing..WAY before I bought a bike..but I am still a good girl! I'll get something non-offensive posted as soon as I can ..maybe leather, definitely not a bikini..lol..hopefully no one's offended by a chick with lots of ink. |

Nothin' wrong with ink and leather. Unless, the leather is covering the ink. Sounds like your "practice partner" is doing it right. Take your time. Always good to hear of women learning to ride, especially Buellers. |

Have you tried the lower seat option? Think someone mentioned that in your other post. The City seat while comfortable, is a bit high. I think I'm going to go with the Select come spring. Love those boots |

Gino, Man..you really are the west coast, eh.. we always call the other side of florida the west coast..ah well, Florida's only a few hours ride away...lol Mad..I already have the low seat and even had some of the seat shaved off, didn't make much difference though...my only truly viable option other than boots, was to go with the SCG suspension swap out..and truthfully, I'd like to leave the bike in original form Blake would look HOT in those boots..woo.. |
