ANyone? C'mon now .... In '03 Buell released the XB9R and followed up a model year later with the XB12R. Plenty of folks clamored how they wish they had waited. Well it's Christmas time and I'm about willing to bet an XB9X is in the works. Whatcha think? DAve |

Dang...you beat me to it! Yep...the City "X" is the 9X. I don't think the 900 motor would have the grunt to power a 500lb bike sufficiently, and I don't think it's much (if any) lighter. |

Hey Chad it used to be a 900 cc bike was considered huge. I remember when an 850 Norton Commando was the fastest thing you could buy. And it must have weighed close to the 425 dry the Uly weighs. |

Nahh...I don't agree that the XB9SX (City X) is the XB9X. I'm describing the Ulysses with a 900cc engine. Think about it. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult male in the United States is about 5'9". I think the average US male height is at the extreme minimum needed for the XB12X. With a low seat, it helps but I don't think it's the answer. Buell hit a home run with the Ulysses so why not target the masses that are under 5'9" with a version that is slightly lighter, lower, and with even better mpg while still maintaining it's "adventure" character. Buell has established a strategy of adjusting a model to open it up to more buyers/riders. XB9S (where did it go?) XB12Scg, XB12S, XB12Ss Release a new model that riders crave but is just a bit "out of reach". Some will buy it anyhow but for others the height is the deal breaker. Make a few changes and Buell is selling more of 'em to a new rider. Buell will strike while the iron is hot and the adventure/multi-road bikes are hot. Where is ground breaking again for the new factory for just adventure bikes? DAve (Message edited by dave on December 02, 2005) |

The xb line weather they be XB12 or XB9 are the same size because the power trains are the same dimentions on the outside. An XB9X would be the same size as the XB12X. The XBs were typically too small for anyone over 5'10" so they built the XB12X. Who knows if they would make another one a little smaller. The sales potential would have to be there and I don't know if it is. If it cut into sales of the XB12X there would be no point in making one. |

Lets remember the XB9 motor is 984cc not 900 |

I'm wondering why anyone who feels the 12X is too tall doesn't go for a 12Ss? Basically the same chassis, engine, swingarm, but lower with less suspension travel. If you lowered the 12X, you'd get nearly the same bike as the 12Ss without the power outlets (which can be added easily) and the pop off windshield. Honestly, if I were 5'9", I'd be riding around on an RC51 with softbags. LOL! |

I did not buy an Ss because of the no bags and tour pack option. Put a 12x tall section on and Ss and I would buy it. Mike XB12X Black Long Island, NY |

I know the sport touring market segment is small but I bet they could sell a "lowrider" version of the 12X without the duck bill fender and handguards. I'd like to see a factory standard taller windshield, a small fairing and the ability for a 5'10" rider to put his or her feet flat on the pavement at stops. The XB12T. |

I think Buell made the XB12X not for taller riders but to get into the Dual Sport/Adventure motorcycle market. They successfully opened a door for a rider untapped by Buell. I'm an example in that I purchased a Tiger because a Buell could not satisfy my riding needs. As far as stealing sales from another Buell model...I think an XB9X would be opening the Adventure market a bit more. If I was running Buell and I could put someone on a XB9/12X instead of a Tiger, Multistrada, V-Strom, etc ... I 'd call it success! It would not matter to me if it was a 984cc or a 1203cc Buell. Each sale I can take away from the competition is a goal. I like the XB12Ss as well but would compare it to my S3 rather than my Ulysses. I agree they are 2 different types of bikes and riding. Let us take a shot at those CAD drawings and component selections - we'll so 'em how to make everything on the bikes ergonomically adjustable and interchangable! (yeah, in my dreams..) |

All they need to do is put an air adjustable suspension system on the ULY. With the press of a button the front and rear would go up or down in sync with each other. The affect would be a seat height from 29 to 33 inches. Sounds like a good aftermarket product to me. |
