Harley has changed the front rubber mount on the isolated models. Old part number 16207-79B, new part number 16207-79C.

They call it an improved mount, they do not say how it is improved. Mount picture

Looks like it might need a new $35 washer on the top as well. Is this for all Buells, or just some of them? Anybody know?

Could this be a some sort of remedial rethink designed to address the breaking front mount/shearing head bolt/broken head syndrome? Sadly, it is a little too "after the fact" for some of us.

I was hoping someone else might have seen this Don. I don't know why this one might be better. I agree, it's too late. I replaced my front mount last year at 11000 miles.

The new Isolator is NOT a superceding part for Buells. It should have received a totally new part number from HD based on that, but they must not have realized the Buell application when they did the revision to 16207-79C.

Buell has released a Parts and Accessories Bulletin (BPAB#32) that says that the NEW part number for the old part (16207-79B) is now L0501.2. Do NOT use the -79C version, it does not accommodate the D washer that Buell needs.

Do you or does anyone else have a copy of that Bulletin they could scan and post?
Thanks.

I received the new mount (L0501.2) today. $43 from dudley perkins in frisco, cal. The other nearer buell dealers have given up buells (santa maria HD) or refused to mail order (ventura HD).
The new part is the sos. It has the marking BARRY 28043 (supplier) on the top and guess what number is on the bottom. You guessed correct 16207-79B. The new number L0501.2 isn't on the new mount. Anybody have a clue what BPAB #32 shows??

Dudley Perkins did some checking with Buell and the new front isolator (L0501.2) is new in number only. In other words; you get the new part in a new sealed plastic bag with the new number L0501.2 on the bag but the actual part in the bag is just old 16207-79B. The explanation is: they gave it a new number L0501.2 so that old 16207-79B wouldn't be confused with 16207-79C on the regular Harleys. Are you confused yet? Me too. Sounds like the old shell game. I guess I'll put on the new L0501.2 (old 16207-79B) and do some more destructive testing on the old design. The old design puts the rubber to steel bushing bonded surface in an almost 100% shear loading. No wonder it ruptures. It should be mostly compression loading. In the meantime, I got a great catalog (which includes design criteria and full specs) from Advance Antivibration Component in New Hyde Park, N.Y. Their prices are reasonable enough. I'll probably design my own front isolator. I like their bolt mounts that are compression preloaded (squished a little) during installation. We'll see. Gotta put the battery tender on the Odyssey battery on the M2. It's still in the garage with a busted MU26041 front isolator from steel thunder. It didn't work either but, it gave a pretty good fight.

Cayucos,
Did you ever design your isolator?

Well I considered that: I have broken the cast aluminum bracket that bolts to the front head (the new billet one is fine)and too many front isolators to count. I load my wife on the rear with soft bags and gear all suspended via an upgraded shock and we ride 10,000 miles round trip from California to Quebec.

Now I realize the entire suspension load transfers through the front isolator and bracket and I'm just stressing that front mount beyond reason.

I thought about a used C&J frame but I think I'll just put the M2 engine in a sporty frame and be done with it.

It won't handle worth a damned but the way we travel with tent, sleeping bags, thermo rests and the wifes blow dryer, I don't think I have much choice. I'm NOT going to put the engine in a rigid chopper frame.

FYI

Dennis Kirk carries PN H14462 which supposedly is "as * Made to replace OEM NO. 16207-79B". It's a Drag Specialties product.

Haven't used it, but it's out there.
