Is anyone running a 1050 kit on their XB9? What are your thoughts? Results? I am looking to extend my Buell's performance beyond the factory race-kit. I have sold off my other sportbikes & now the Buell must fill the role. While I do the occassional track day I am really looking for a set-up that is streetable. Any feedback would be appreciated. |

BadBuell, I bought the Revolution Performance 1050 kit and love it. I'm still in the 400-mile break in period. I have a race can and that's it. No ECM upgrade, PCM or anything. Personally, I prefer the upgrade to buying the XB12 as I don't want a track bike and prefer using my XB9 as a sporty commuter bike instead of a race bike but don't get me wrong. If I had the means, I'd make fit an inline 4 in a Buell and call it a Buelluzuki. You can upgrade to an even larger bore but you'd have to split the cases and I don't have that kind of $$. Revolution Performance has a bunch of upgrade kits, including cams , etc. Anyhoot, the 1050 kit fit and finish is awesome. I got mine in black powdercoat cuz I'll eventually match other parts that way. |

I don't want to flame or fight at all but I don't think that buying a 1050 kit and keeping the stock ECM could make any sense. just my HO. peace |

XXXB9S/Buell_892, I will eventually change the ECM. It's all economics, you know. I sent you (Buell_892) a private response to your question. |

The problem with the 1050 kit is that in order to get any more horsepower, it requires a larger amount of air and fuel, properly metered Accomplishing that has seemed to be rather a problem, and several brothers have reported that there was no increase in power, (my nephew Ben) or less power, (Race Pilot's friend), after installing the kit. I am pretty sure the stock ecm is the wrong thing to use, and I am not sure that even the race ecm will work properly. I have never seen a 1050 set up that works properly, but I would think that in order to get another ten horsepower over stock, you would need to : 1. Remove the snorkle 2. Replace air filter with K&N 3. Use Race ecm 4. Use an adjustable fuel enricher like Power commander or TFI 5. Modify head for great air flow 6. Use an aftermarket muffler. The Drummer seems to be a popular choice. 6. Find a tuner with a dyno who has a proven track record of making this all work on a Buell. This is the hardest part. The track record of home mechanics getting all this to work has not been too good, due in part to the problems in modifying the fuel injection. Many experienced race and track day guys have emphasized the importance of tires, suspension set up, and track time as the best way to get more performance out of their bike. I found a steering damper to be a very useful item as well. Perhaps one of the brothers who has gotten this all working properly will share his experience with us. PS: There is quite a lot of information on this subject if you can find it in the Knowledge Vault section of this site. (Message edited by gentleman_jon on November 30, 2005) |

if everything is a matter of $$, like our friend said, then I'd forget the 1050 kit (that costs 1000$) and I'd point my 1000$ to a: 1)stock ecm combined with tfi (ecm $0, tfi $ 150 used) 2) xb12 airbox ( $ 30) 2a) or a xb9 drilled one ($ 0) 2b)race airfilter (say 50$) 2c) or a F.A.S.T ($ 300) 3)drummer (I donno the price, maybe 300$?) then you would save from 500$ to 250$ and you WILL definitely NOTICE the power gain! Not considering the time and $$ messing with dyno, mechanics and gastric ulcer. p.s. I'm not saying where I'd throw the saved $500 (0)(0) ih ih ih |

4. Use an adjustable fuel enricher like Power commander or TFI I doubt the TFI would have what it takes to help. I'm not sold on the TFI (My personal experience is with TFI & Race ECM so that point could be moot). 5. Modify head for great air flow Not sure that is necessary. The XB9 heads are the same as the XB12 heads. 6. Find a tuner with a dyno who has a proven track record of making this all work on a Buell. Or Sportsters any way, if one can tune a PCIII on a Sportster, one can do a Buell. I agree with all other points Jon suggested. I'd be willing to bet with the 1050 kit, and a properly tuned PCIII, you'd see good results. Bet it'd be a nice torque curve as well. |

I'm running the 1050 kit with a multitude of other modifications(check my profile). I enjoy this kit quite alot. I agree with what Gentleman_Jon says though, it's very important to have someone who knows what they are doing with the FI. I am eagerly anticipating the new programmable ECM that American Sport Bike has on the way, because I think that it could help far beyond the Power Commander I'm running right now. |

xxx: I have done most of those mods...I am looking to move beyond "bolt on performance" gator: I've had my eye on the programmable ECM I'm not too worried about the financials of making it run right...my main concern is streetable performance & reliability. |
