So the rivets on the front of my pipe pulled through. My bikes was really loud all of the sudden so I pulled over and it was just hanging in the steel band. Thankfully it did not cause the bike to pogo. I ran it without a pipe to my freinds place because he had an extra. I'm planning to call Jardine next week and see what they will do. I've only had the can since July. It lasted about 4,000 miles. |

Didn't someone else on this board pogo because of this same pipe? |

I don't know about someone going down with the Jardine but Wyckedflesh pogo'd due to a custom pipe...I have heard of the Jardines coming apart at the rivets though.. |

No, it wasn't a Jardine that did that. I had to work pretty hard to get the can off of the bike. I feel safe pretty another one back on it because of how hard it was to get the old one off. It's pretty obvious when it happened, so I just stopped right away. |

I just repacked my jardine and it was fine! It actually was hard to pull apart after drilling the rivets. Mine has always been solid so maybe its just a few bad ones out there? |

The nice thing about Jardine is their customer service. I had twin Jardine slipons on my 02 RC51 and after about year and half one of the endcaps loosened up and blewout. I spoke with them and mailed the broken muffler to them, two weeks later they sent me back two new mufflers and reimbustment for shipping along with a tee-shirt and tons of stickers. i thought that was very cool. |

Jardine is a huge sponsor of the Rc51 on the race bike so they probably didnt want you or anyone else to see that kind of product out there. I was very close to getting a RC before the XB |

i'll second Jardines customer service. i purchased the RT-One Ti from a random vendor and attempted to install on my F4i... the fit wasn't right (can and mid-pipe wouldn't connect no matter what i tried) and the end cap seal wasn't so good... Jardine corrected the issues in no time flat. I loved it on that bike, sound was sweet and never had an issue after that... no way in hell I'd trust it on my XB though. but thats just me |

the jardine design is a race muffler design both materials and construction extract their heritage from there race cousins. if you put a jarding or similar design muffler that uses glass pack and rivets then you must appreciate that this is a "race" muffler and its primary function is to make power and survive a weekend of racing. to expect an economical light weight race muffler to survive years and years without regular maintenance is a wee bit ignorant. the jardine is a fantastic muffler for the price and the quality, just remember that you will need to constantly service its needs and it will last forever. |

repack it with stainless steel packing and weld it up. or get a pipe like the spec ops that is welded to start with and is probably better suited to high mile street riding and leave the race parts to the racers. |

charlie- drill out the rivets on the outlet end and pull off. Then take the can with both hands and swing it back and forth, the old matted packing SHOULD fly out along with the baffle tube. Clean the old packing off the tube wrap the new stuff around the tube and slide it into the can making sure the tube slides into the front end cap. Then put the rear cap back on and rivet it back up- when you install the rear cap you can use some high temp rtv if you want but I never do. Should take like half hour tops- have fun |

Neutron I'll post up a picture of what I'm talking about. No service could have saved this can. The rivets are still in tact, but the pipe itself is what has came apart. I also don't buy the use it for a weekend philsophy that you are talking about. The pipe is an aftermarket production can that Jardine sells as a factory replacement for street bikes. So I can't believe that Jardine is selling a pipe that will only last for 4 months and 4,000 miles. So are you calling everyone that has bought a Jardine pipe and expects it to last is ignorant? Ease up a little with the insults. (Message edited by Olinxb12r on November 27, 2005) |

they are not a street pipe. they are a race pipe that you have chosen to put on your street bike. the fact that these "after market" pipes belt out over 100db noise levels that far exceed street legal use should indicate that its not legal. no need for a photo i know what has happened the vibrations have flogged out the rivet holes causing the can to fall apart. Like i said these things are not street cans they are race cans that people choose to put on there street bikes. im insulting you because if you are silly enough to buy a race product and put it on your street bike, then complain that it only lasted for 4000miles when in actual fact it is designed for weekend racing then you are not well informed as to what you are purchasing or ignorant to what you are doing. |

Neutron, dude pull that bug out of your a$$ and lighten up. Go find a bar, , and shot some pool and relax. It's the holiday season, no reason to start jumping on someone over something so small. And for your information, a race pipe shouldn't only last 4000 miles. I had a full M4 system on my SV650 race bike and but well over 12K miles on it between track and street. Never got louder, never blew out or anything. Sometimes the manufacturers pack the cans too tightly or with the wrong material. Although they are sold as race cans, they need to be able to withstand the demands of street riding considering that is where 90% of all the pipes are going to end up. Steel mesh (steel wool) works great to reduce the noise and doesn't have a service life. And so does continuously roving fiber glass, like that used by M4 and Dynomax car race mufflers. There are more options, and less reasons to bitch at someone for no reason. Maybe your the ignorant, or should I say, immature one. |

no just informing him that he has a race muffler. Like most race parts they are built to work well and go fast but the lifespan is limited. if your M4 system worked for years then good for you, i have had many bikes with many race cans on them on the street and they too lasted quite well with the exception of a yoshimura that i had. Some i bought some came with the bikes all were loud and all where illegal and stamped not for street use. if they failed then they fail and thats the gamble you take. i can put slicks on my bike too and ride to the shops but if it rains and i fall off who's fault is it. you have to go into these things understanding the concequences. race parts are for racing use them on the street at your own peril |

Since we are insulting each other I guess I should let you know what an arrogant know it all you sound like. This happened to another friend of mine and Jardine covered the pipe, if they replace mine also we will know if you are so smart. Nasty is right, go have a beer and relax. Opinions can be given with tact and taken for what they are, but when you lack common courtesy your opinions will fall on deaf ears. |

no just informing him that he has a race muffler. Like most race parts they are built to work well and go fast but the lifespan is limited incorrect. he has a can that requires service intervals and is held together with pop-rivets. the enemy for this type of construction on the Buell is vibration. race vs. street doesn't matter here. |

I modified my Jardine to combat the packing problems. The RT1 works well but mine fell apart after 2.5 hours of "race" use. As a safety precaution I riveted the strap to the aluminum body. I have shortened the aluminum body 1 3/4 inches. I made my own baffle and replaced all the rivets with larger head diameter steel rivets. Only one has rattled loose. As far as noise, Super Motards are louder and as far as power feels the same as when the RT1 was new. |

I'm with all of you guys. I guess I like to ride a bike that makes some noise. If I have to repack it every 2 months so be it, to me its fun bike tinkering. Hey Neutron my jardine has over 5000 with no major problems, and I ride my bike as hard as possible every chance I get. |

My Jardine RT1 is getting mighty noisy.. I purchased some "Silent Sport" filling, they recommend to remove the inner core sheild then fill up. One of the guys there worked for Jardine so his input to re-packing was appreciated. YES I was being hassled by the local coppers, they gave me 2 options.. Make it quieter or re-install the original exhaust. Nasty option to replace the original.. I decided to repack the Jardine. |

I've used this stuff on my Blast Kerker exhaust. It is priced right and seems to be pretty durable so far. It is the string type fiberglass packing. http://www.racetools.com/muffler-landing.php?primary=products&secondary=muffler |

one thing that i wonder is their is a buell race kit and it has a race ecm, race muffler and race filter. the muffler and ecm have "for race use only" or similar printed on them. but buell has no race team, what privateer or dealer team uses the race muffler or race ecm? if you are serious privateer you can get a programmable ecm from buell which is by far not the race kit ecm which is pre-programmed. so what is the race kit for? |

The race kit is for us, they have to put for race use only because it will supposedly change the EPA rating. James, how is the Jardine you got from us working out, you know the one with 13K miles on it. |

My Jardine also had the holes elongate due to vibration. Jardine sent me a new one and in about 6 weeks it did the same thing. I went with a Special OPS and have had no other problems (Thanks Odie) |

Hey lunchbox I just used some packing very similar to that stuff. Only FMF makes it and its pink not white, but it really strong stuff. I pulled on a few strands of it and could'nt get it to fray apart. |

Cmm123 - I am thinking that a relatively loose packing would reduce the sound the most since it would allow for more expansion of the exhaust gases. Of course I didn't consider this when I packed my muffler on my Blast and I may have packed it too tight, which in my estimation would be the equivalent of a straight pipe. I will experiment over the winter. |

When I went looking for a muff I looked for what I was going to get from the muffler. I ended up conversing with Jens by email and he suggested buying the Titanium RT1 version due to the rivets cracking and pulling through on the aluminum version. With this being said I will say that if I had it to do over again I would go with the D&D. |
