Jim, The head shake on mine did not appear to be gear nor RPM specific....I know I could recreate it in 4th or 5th gear, and I think I did it in 3rd also. |

Hello Eor, Well, that pretty much shoots my WAG theory down. We're still rooting for ya'. I'm sure they'll figure it out. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

I was bored so I called the dealership this afternoon and spoke with the service tech. At Buell's instructions, he has tried some additional things, none of which has eliminated the headshake. He said Buell Engineering is still trying to figure out what is going on and how to correct it. |

I just got off the phone with my dealership they are still waiting to hear back from Tech support. I called Customer Service 1.5 hours ago and they confirmed that they were made aware of the the situation from the dealership and that tech would be returning the call to the dealership asap. I told customer service I was aware of Brad also having a similar issue that they were currently working on but they would not confirm or deny. But did say that this is the first and only reports of the headshake on the Uly. It is a beautiful 75 degrees here...... |

The tech called me this morning to inform me that a couple of guys from Buell were coming down to look at and ride my bike. He asked if it would be all right if they waited until after Thanksgiving. Given that the weather has turned cold here and I have other bikes I can ride, I told him it was all right. He said they were going to bring some parts to put on my bike. I did ask if I could meet with them when they were there...he said he would check and get back to me. I don't imagine there will be any further developments for a couple of weeks... |

Just got off phone with my dealer. They have heard from Buell tech who wants a retest with bags on and bags off to determine how far bars shake. They were also interested in condition of tires. Maybe if I am lucky the Buell Techs will want to come to sunny Arizona for a little riding. |

csg . . . is your bike at CHD? I'm going to drop mine off when I pick up my M2. I have the headshake between 40-45 mph. Would be good to have the same tech ride mine and compare notes. I'm also getting some noise that I think is pinging, between 3500-4000rpms. Going to ask them to check that out too. |

Az welcome back to the fold. Sorry mine is at Hacienda Harley. I just took the bike for a ride with no bags and the legs raised a little in the tripple tree and the neck bearing loosened and retorqued to a touch on the high side. Rear damper up two more clicks I was at 8. The bike now has 2,000 miles on it and Buell is saying the tires only are to last 3,000 or so. But mine still look very good. Anyway the shake has moved closer to an indicated 47 mpg (GPS not installed) but is very slight actually so slight you really have to look for it. It does not matter what gear you are in but I mostly was using second and third as fifth gear did seem to add a lot of engine vibration that clouds the issue. So third was really the best gear for testing. I even tried it going thru a curve. The dealer tech Jim will try the bike again with the bags tomorrow first top case only then sides only then all the bags EMPTY (I sugested trying it two up also)and report back to Buell tech support. He did tell me that the five 28oz water bottles I had in the top case may be over the five pound limit my side cases are empty. So I said try it with no bottles completly empty. EOR I will have to look up the manufacture date tomorrow but my vin number is 426 if that helps. |

Mine is 337. That's actually more specific than manufacture dates. I was just wondering if there might be a connection, but that already represents a span of almost 100 units which accounts for a significant portion of the early manufacturing run I would imagine. |

Sounds like he is going through the same testing process my tech went through. I really would like to see what happens with a different brand tire on the front. I have suggested this but I don't think they have tried it. If it turns out to be a tire issue, it could be terribly embarrassing for both companies, given that the 616 was developed specifically for the Ulysses. |

what was interesting to me was that the tech was addressing more the flat band on the rear tire from running to long on the straight and narrow than any condition with the front tire. I once again told him that I added "ride-on" as soon as I took delivery of the bike. I will have to try to photo that if I can even see it. Maybe I can hold a straight edge tight to the rear tire as a reference. |

Hi guys, Tried it several more times last night in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Rock solid each time. Did the decel test prolly 7 or 8 times. Eor, did you see the head shake thread in the Knowledge Vault? Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

It was confirmed back to me today that only Brad and I have reported this issue so I told them about AZ_M2. When I told HH that AZ_M2 had the same issue and were taking it in to CHD. Jim the HH tech called over to CHD at 4pm today checking on your bike. Have you dropped it off yet? They are looking for it to come in. Don't let me down. Currently on mine Buell tech is over-nighting two new (Stock) tires to try on mine. The dealer tech wants to get the bike to were it has no shake before he proceeds with adding the bags back on for further testing. Buell tech is questioning my use of "Ride-on" in the tires. I told HH Tech it assists with a hydrostatic balance and some people are reporting a 25% increase in tire mileage. Jim did you get your top bag mounted also? Or are you just reporting on empty side bags? How about the miles on your tires? EOR did they also replace your front tire or just your rear? If not replaced how many miles do you have on the tires?

No, top case not mounted yet. I plan to get to it soon. I've got just under 1k on the bike. I feel like we're hijacking Eor's thread. Eor, do you want us to take this elsewhere? Jim in Santa Barbara |

I also feel like a thread hijacker. Feel free to start another thread and have one of the admin types move my earlier posts to wherever is correct and I will follow. I really want to keep the thought flowing till it is resolved. |

Sorry guys, been a bit busy. Build date for mine was August '05, #776. No I haven't taken mine to CDH yet, my M2 is there and I plan to ride over to pick it up and leave the ULY. Hoping that it's tommorrow. I'll call today and find out. |

I don't mind the hijack. I had a new rear tire installed at the same time the bags were installed...at 3000 miles. As part of the troubleshooting process, they mounted a new front tire, which the tech thought helped the head shake some but I didn't agree after riding it. |

Talked to CHD. Won't be able to get to it until Tuesday. My ULY has just over 3k on it. Tires look to still have quite a bit of life left in 'em. |

Ok time for todays saga. I just swung by the dealership to check today's progress. I was told no tire came in today. So I said wait a minute they said Buell tech sent it overnight UPS for next day delivery so it had to be dropped off by 10 am this mourning anybody got a tracking number? I got the service manager to pull up my service record and there it was a ups tracking number. So he logged on to the UPS site and tracked it down. It turns out that the tire was in phoenix at about 8am today and was delivered to the dock by 10ish unfortunately the dock is in Flagstaff. So the service manager called the harley dealer up in Flagstaff to see if they got two tires that they were not expecting and sure enough they did. So somehow Buell tech sent them to the Bellemont Harley between Williams and Flagstaff instead of Hacienda Harley of Scottsdale about 150 miles away. So no progress today and most likely none until tuesday of next week at the earliest. Now I am kicking myself for not following up at noon today......dumb...dumb.....dumb. On the other hand if I had not stopped by today I do not believe anyone would have figured out what happened for a very long time as the Buell service writer is off on Friday and Saturday and I do not yet know the Tech's work schedule but he was there today. |

Hi guys, Well things didn't go so well tonight. I hustled home after a frustrating day at the office thinking "I'll get the top case added and go for a test ride". It was a good plan... The top case hardware went on with minimal fuss. Popped the bag on. Lovely! Then I went to add the side cases (gotta have 'em all on at once, eh?). Oops. Now let me say that I've only had the hard bags on one time. But that was for a 443.2 mile ride last Sunday with a bunch of my buddies. And everything was flawless... I went to put the left side bag on (and lock the mount as soon as the bag is on) and I noticed that the mounting bracket would not lock. Weird, huh? Well, it turns out the cam (assuming that is the proper term) that is effectively the locking mechanism is kaput. Busted. Ruined. Whatever... <sigh> Dammit. Here I was going to try to help you guys out and now I've got a bit of a snafu of my own. Have I done anything wrong? NO!!!!! I work slowly, take great care to follow instructions, don't abuse or force things, etc. I can only conclude that sometime during my 443 mile ride last Sunday the cam broke on it's own. I didn't notice because I got home and simply unlocked the bracket and the bags came off normally. I didn't notice the problem until I tried to lock the bag on tonight. <sigh> I'll contact the dealer that sold me the bags (not the same one that sold me the bike). I sure hope there is a warranty. Sorry guys. I did a test ride with the top case only and everything is peachy. But count me out on the full bag setup until I can get the left bag repaired. Jim in Santa Barbara |

Jim, The same thing happened to the side bag on the right side. I noticed this was before Friday and the bag that took the hit was on the other side it so that had nothing to do with it. I'm glad to hear it will be covered. |

Well my tires that went to Flag were sent to HH on monday but they went regular UPS so they got there mid afternoon on tuesday. The plan was to get them mounted and do so testing and report back to Buell tech by wed mid afternoon. Well that did not happen as the tires did not even start to get changed out till about 5 pm on wednesday. So I lost a week grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. |
