I have owned both, I like the R for the wind protection and I like the Ss for riding position and length of riding comfort. I can ride like a mofo on the Ss. |

Sweet! '04 12S, and loving it. To me it's just more raw than the R. Love the bad- attitude the style is.

XB9R More practical on the highway than the S. I did a 3000 mi trip with a few riding buddies this summer and really appreciated the extra wind protection offered by the R. I also personally prefer the lower clip on bars. I also have a double bubble windshield. (Message edited by justice on November 16, 2005) |

04 XB12S. So much fun the pleasure police may be after us when they get tired of dealing with cigars and adult libations. I do not like the 120 mile range of the bike. I have yet to see the 55-60 mpg some have. Max I have seen is 43 mpg. I am at sea level and like to hammer it. Haven't had the nerve to pop a wheelie yet. That will only increase the fun factor. |

Put it this way, if there was only the Lightning and the godawful Ulysses, Buell would have at least one less buyer. I detest the Lightning with a passion exceeded only by my infatuation with the Firebolt. Having ridden both, it's incredible what a difference bars & footpegs make. The S feels like a heavy, clumsy MX bike but the R feels like what it is - a razor for the road. Yeah each to their own, but I got my perfect bike off the shelf. |

When I get one, it will be an XB9R. I prefer the riding position, wind protection, and looks. However, given the funds, I would own both in a heartbeat. |

'bout time some of you chimed in for the R I'm not about to throw a vote in as any sort of reccomendation to anyone though - get the one that speaks to you... Myself, I really dug the R. It's Sportbike "American Style"! |

Mister "12r" above said it for me- the R is a knife on the road. It's actually killing me- I just moved to twist-less flatland, and find myself doing on-ramps and traffic circles just to get my fix! |

Red 12R. Gets the attention of others, and smiles from me. The new g/f, never having ridden a bike before, first went for a ride wih me on the Springer. Then the Buell. She gets jones'n bad for the Buell now. The S just doesn't do it for me personally. |
