I just wish they'd build a diesel 45 degree V-twin. The idle thump on that thing would be awesome! Instead of "potato-potato-potato..." it would go "poclacka-poclacka-poclacka..."

Awesome. A high mileage bulletproof dirt digger. I love the OD version with desert camo seat. |

0-60 in 10 seconds... I'd be willing to give up some mileage so I can stay outta the grill of the Yukon behind me. Brett |

"Diesel motorcycle" and "quick" are not necessarily mutually exclusive terms. Check out this one: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2005/02/25/thunder-star-1200-diesel-by-star-tw in/ Hugh |

Having owned a KLR in the past, I can tell you that the gas powered KLR isn't all that much quicker. Pulled good wheelies though! I'd LOVE to have one of these bikes. Talk about an ultimate urban assult commuter and backwood boonie bike, this thing is it. I wonder what they sell for? |

From their newsletter: PRICE: The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the D650-A1LE Bulldog will be $18,999.00 (the price is subject to change until the opening of our initial offer to sell and some restrictions may apply.) A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the purchase price will be required to hold your bike. The balance will be due on presentation of documentation and notice that the unit is ready for shipment. For our customer's protection, deposits will be refunded if HDTUSA is unable to deliver their motorcycle. |

Rhinowerx, You can bet that any deposit would be lost money if they were unable to deliver. Unable to deliver means one thing, no money to make the bike. The only way I would ever purchase a bike is if a local dealer carries that brand. To give deposit money to some unproven and unknown outfit like the one purportedly manufacturing this diesel seems very risky to me. If things went south for this upstart, do you think for a minute refunding deposits would be a priority to them? |

Charlieboy6649, Back in the fall of 75' I went through 81mm mortarman training at San Onefre, California there at Pendleton. Then it was on to Okinawa. I can't remember where Combat town was at Pendleton. During boot, we humped over from MCRD, and did rifle qualification, I believe at Combat town. Scored Sharpshooter that first time. I couldn't fix the target because of the heat waves. Always Expert after that. Loved the CS gas training, LOL. |

$18k! You're kidding! For a KLR with a diesel lump in it? BAH!!! HA! HA! HA!! Sounds like something the government would buy. I think I'll keep my money. |

electraglider, I too have been Expert ever since boot, SS there. Prolly didn't help what with the DI's stressin' me n all. There's two combat towns now. One is really state of the art. I don't know that we payed 18K. Doubt the MC could afford that. But these aint your average KLR either... A close up look verifies that! |

Yeah, $18K is silly. I think I would rather have 4 KLR250 instead. |

I don't think 18k is all that silly. The diesel motor (Cat C9)in my F-250 was $8000 more than the stock Powerstroke, and the dealer wouldnt even install it, I had to go to a Kenworth shop and have it installed. Ford eventually compensated me for the installation and gave me a complimentary warranty on top of what the KW dealer gave. Having said all that, the diesel is always going to pay off in the end with longetivity and reliability. Also factor in the ability to burn kerosene, vegetable oil and other alternatives. A great feature if you're a survival nut like me. When everything goes mad-max out here I'd sure like to have one of those bikes in a sealed underground container somewhere |
