Im not sure if its called quite that , valve tick, lifter tick etc? Is it common, I have it on my bike 2000 x1 with 19600 miles and i need to know if i have to tear into it and replace some stuff |

It's a noise inherent with all Buell motors, I wouldn't worry much about it. Unless... It is VERY loud or (such as in my case) you previously had just beaten the peepee out of you bike. Still have it checked out if it is a concern though |

Loud pipes fix that. |

I had a pretty loud tick that went away after I changed my exhaust gaskets. An exhaust leak at the cylinder head sounds like a metallic "click". |

its not an exhaust sound, i know its comming from the valve cover. But this is 3 people now that say its not a big deal, i know on Turbo Exlipse/talons, its there because the opening on the top of the lifter wasnt big enough to put through sufficient oil to libricate it thoroughly, but it was never a big deal. I figured that this was somethign not to worry about, just wanted to check |

The best thing to do is to meet up with someone else that has the same bike and compare. |

Does it happen when you run at high RPMs for a while? If so it is most likely your hydraulic lifters, the oil will foam creating a slight pressure loss = ticking sound. Nothing you can do just write it up to tuber character...... |

Yeah, when its cold it doesnt do it, but when it heats up it does, i attribute it also to the synthetic oil in it as well, its thinner and doesnt libricate the lifters as well most likely (like i said, my car did it too lol) |

On my 2001 M2 with 15000KM on it the lifters make noise when hot. None when cold. Sounds like yours would be about the same. |

Why is the synthetic oil thinner? I don't think so. Lifter ticking is normal. |

Just wait til you put aftermarket cams in in if you think it ticks now.The mechanical noise from my S-2 with Red Shift cams, adjustable pushrods, roller rockers is astounding. |

My S1 with Andrews N9's, S&S travel limiters, roller rockers and adjustable pushrods also makes various levels of clatter at various RPM levels. Sometimes I sit and listen to it for a minute before I shut her off after a ride. |
