Anyone have any ideas where to start?? Fired up my '98 S1 for a short putt to heat up the motor & change the oil for winter storage, didn't seem to be running right, took her around the block. It had about as much power as my wife's Blast, got back home, shut her down, felt the cylinders, back one was barely lukewarm. I guess I'll start by swapping plugs, if that doesn't work a compression test, but beyond that not sure what to look for. Anyone have any ideas as far as a logical sequence to diagnosing the problem? |

Since it's a waste spark system (it is, isn't it?), the coil should be fine. I'd suspect spark plug and plug wire. I've had the connector inside the spark plug boot break off on an old wire. Let's know what you find. Henrik |

What Henrik said. If I keep this up I may never be wrong again. Poor compression or lead-down would not prevent the cylinder from firing. |

Or just plain old fouled the plug.Did you start it with the choke on? Did that early on a couple of times in my HD experience. |

Thanks for the input guys. The culprit: a defective plug! I remember bitching at the dealer when I had to buy TWO plugs for my wife's Blast (all I gots is a two-pack o them thar thangs), turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Thanks again, now if I could only get this friggin' gas cap off!! |

Glad it was as easy as that. And thanks for posting the solution. Henrik |
