I havent cut it yet but it may become one of the winter projects. The Dremel is itchin to cut somthin. The KV has many examples if you can find them or have the time to search. I'll post pics when it happens. |

DO NOT CUT IT. I did that to my 05 City X. At first I thought it was great but I was having all kinds of strange things happening with how my bike ran after I cut it. After I got the K and N air filter and the race ECM and pulled the snorkel I went back to the closed AirBox on the advice of Kevin Drum. I mean to tell you that my bottom end came back and my bike runs so much better through out the range. No coughing through the airbox and no hunting around on hot days. I'll tell you what. I still have mine that I cut with a foam piece that holds it down. If you want to play with it PM me and I will ship it to you if you pay the shipping. If you like it you can have it. If not just ship it back. Give Kevin at KD fab a call and he can explain the whole thing to you. He really knows his stuff... |

I didn't cut mine just got the 12 box. At first I took out the snorkle but it seemed to be stumbling a bit running around 4k cruising. I put the snorkle back in and it ran fine. I have K&N, 12 air box, stock ECM with snorkle in. I believe that it was getting too much air (if that's possible). I was wrong once but I was mistakin' |

Maybe it's according to which ECM/muffler combo you have? Black_sunshine and I have close to the same bike. Both 03 XB9S
B_S | G | 12airbox(uncut) | 12airbox(cut) | Drummer | Buell Race Muffler | Standard ECM | Race ECM | Snorkel | No Snorkel | I have none of the symptoms ya'll speak of wrt cut air box.

I have the American Sport Bike open airbox, K&N, no snorkle and stock ECM & exhaust. I have no problems whatsoever. Low end grunt, midrange pull and smooth top end. |

Haha! Glitch, I think you are exactly correct sir. It is all about airflow thru the system. |

I have an American Sport Bike open airbox, K&N and Special OPs pipe. I have seen the dynos to prove I need more fuel, but it has become more obvious since it has gotten cooler. I am stumbling and coughing when I first start up. From what I can tell, cutting the airbox is not necessary unless you find a way to deliver more fuel to the engine. |
