With the new \imagelink{URL of pic} command we have some new options. There are four different possible scenarios with posting a thumbnail preview as follows: 1. Thumbnail pic file and full size pic file are resident on your computer (not already on a web page somewhere). 2. Full size pic file is an existing web accessible file with available URL, but there is no existing web thumbnail, so you must create a thumbnail version on your computer. This is probably going to be a prevalent situation. 3. Thumbnail and full size pic files are both existing web accessible files with available URL's. 4. Thumbnail pic file is an existing web accessible file with available URL, but there is no existing full sized pic on the web. This is the silly case to be neglected. No full sized pic means basically you have no acceptable file to work with. The point is moot Scenario 1 is the one I'll be working on. Scenarios 2 and 3 can already be accomodated with a little Eeeeekish trickery as follows: Scenario 2 can already be accomodated as follows: \newurl{URLfullpic,\image{your text title here}} Scenario 3 can be handled as follows: \newurl{URLfullpic,\imagelink{URLthumbpic}} Where "URLfullpic" is of course the full URL of the full sized pic to which you wish to refer. Likewise for "URLthumbpic". Interestingly you can combine either of the \image{} or \imagelink{URLfullpic} commands within the \newurl{URL,hyperlink text here} command. Simply insert either of the image based commands in place of the hyperlink text field. That's how the scenario 2 and 3 solutions above work. Cool stuff for the web weenie in us all. |

And obviously, the new "imagelink" formatting command makes obsolete the "alreadyuploaded" trickery described above. |

Oldman: Instead of the text "URLfullpic" your imagelink tagline should have included something like "3994.jpg". Like this... \imagelink{http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/43/3994.jpg} The result being... Try again? |

Oldman: The BBS will not accept bitmap files. Try a jpeg or a gif pic file, and make sure the file size is under 50KB. Try again! |

"GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program." Documentation that assumes its audience already knows every industry acronym is irritating. What is "GNU"? |

Nope. What the !@#% does "GNU" in "GNU's Not Unix" stand for? |

It's the first recursive acronym. Richard Stallmans (who developed the GNU license) arguably best product was "emacs", a text editor that does... well... everything. The editor is written in (and extensible by) the Lisp programming language. It is a functional language, that pretty much uses recursive logic as it's main control structure. It's a joke. GNU = (GNU's Not Unix) = ((GNU's not Unix) Not Unix) (((GNU's not Unix) Not Unix) Not Unix) ((((GNU's not Unix) Not Unix) Not Unix) Not Unix) Iterate forever I have programmed Lisp, and gotten OK with it. It's amazing what you can make such a syntatcially simple language achieve. I can't do Lisp and normal structural programming at the same time, and it takes me a few days to flop between the two. Doing both changes your brain, it's interesting. Here is a pseudocode example of a recursive algorithm to find the largest number in a list. The tricky bit to notice is that the function calls itself half way through. BiggestNum(NUMBERLIST) { ....if ( ListLength(NUMBERLIST) == 1 ) ....{ ........return FirstNumberIn(NUMBERLIST); ....} .... ....FIRSTNUM = FirstNumberIn(NUMBERLIST); ....NEXTNUM = BiggestNum(AllButFirstIn(NUMBERLIST)); .... ....if ( FIRSTNUM > NEXTNUM) ....{ ........return FIRSTNUM; ....} ....else ....{ ........return NEXTNUM; ....} } (fixed problem with the Beta release ) (Message edited by reepicheep on November 08, 2005) |

Okay, now that really pisses me off! A recursive acronym! I must physically hurt that man. Now I'm gonna have to invent a phrase to go along with GNU or it will torment me for the rest of my life. Great New Uly? Good Nonsourced Utility Got No Unix? That'll work. "Got No Unix" Yeah. I'm neurotic about acronyms. You work on a variety of military/defense projects for twenty years and see if you don't get the same. |
