Hi, I've been lurking for a few weeks. One test drive convinced me to try the Buell experience. I found a 2004 XB12R that I will pick up in a few days. I have learned a lot on this board, and when I get my "new" bike home I will have lots of questions. Ralf |

I am not really new just returning from a long nap. I haven't been on the forum since june and only a few times then. I live in the DFW area. I have a 2005 Blast (that I am selling) and a 2005 City X. I never see any Buells in this area but I keep riding and looking for fellow friends. |

Just picked up my Lightning Long at Diablo Mountain Buell, Pittsburg, CA, and learned about this site. Not many miles on it today, so plan to be on it all day tommorrow, as very different from the Moto Guzzi's I sold to buy it. Very young machine for an old man like me. Senior Momments |

Welcome aboard Ryan! I am originally from Toledo. Went to high school in Sylvania. Then lived in the south end for awhile before making my escape. Oh yeah, Forgot to mention. This is a great place to meet fellow riders and gather info on your bike. Order those replacement parts from Daves right here on this board. (Message edited by Capt.Jim on November 08, 2005) |

Hello !! I just want to send a few lines from Norway. This forum has already been very usefull to me. I will purchase a xb12ss later on this month. I had a sportster from 2000-2004 that was pumpt up quite a bit in the engine. Last year i bought a Aprilia tuono 1000R.I had this bike for 1 month then i met a mouse in a turn and vent of the road and it was end of story for that bike!! Now i will return to the one and only air cooled v-twin again.I think i will be faithful from now on.(please forgive me for i have sinned) Bear over with my poor Language. Helge |

Greetings from a damp Devon, England.I'm currently running a 30 year old Guzzi Convert ( now 5 speed, bored yet? ) and an 02 V11 Sport Scura, but having ridden a friend's XB9S I realise that there are other air cooled v-twins out there! Great site, loads of debate and useful technical advice, might just be time to make room out in the garage. Take care out there, regards, cw. |

Helge, I'm happy to know that you are okay after your run-in with that horrible mouse. Your English is very good. Thanks for taking time to say "hello." Chris, Welcome. You do realize that is coffee, not tea right? Congrats on discovering the other V-twin. I wonder, will you be inclined to park it sideways in your garage? Thanks for taking time for the greeting and regards back at you. Blake |

jut boought a 97 S3 with 17K. Black with brown frame and wheels. Weird color choice......... I really like the bike so far. I'm 56 with 35 years on 45 bikes. I've been on (and still am) old BMW airheads for years. I still have a cafe /5. I've got the bubbling decal problem on the Buell. Ordered new decals but unsure how to remove the old ones since they seem to be under the clear. Any ideas? |

Greetings, I've checked out your site from time to time, and it's refreshing to see others who are passionate about these great bikes. I own a '95 S2 Thunderbolt and an '02 Cyclone. I have 7 other bikes including a cafe racer modified Yamaha XV920R (euro), a stock XV920R, a 67 Triumph Bonneville (restoration project), a 66 Triton project, an 83 Yamaha Seca 900, a BSA 500 cafe racer (project), and a Triumph 250 vintage trials bike. I've been riding motorcycles for 30 years, I was a motorcycle mechanic for 8 yrs (mid70s-early80s), and now I do engineering design work (CAD). I guess one point I'd like to make is: let's "save the Buells". The same thing that happened to sixties Triumph Bonnevilles is happening to tube frame Buells. They are being chopped. Look on ebay, and you will find early Buell rolling chassis' (minus motor) for sale by chopper shops. The motors are going into chopper frames. These days it is very difficult to find a complete sixties Triumph Bonneville with matching numbers (I'm lucky, I found one), and now their values are skyrocketing. The U.S. got 85% of all of the Bonnevilles sold in the world in the sixties, and now they are so rare. Rare, because they were turned into choppers. The exact same thing is now happening to the tube framed Buells, and there weren't near as many as those produced as those Triumphs. Thirty years from now, tube frame Buells will be as rare and valuable as the mighty Vincents are today. Thanks for the opportunity to spew my words. Is there anyone else out there seeing this happening? |

Steve, Welcome to BadWeB. The bubbling decal issue became an issue on many early (pre-'99) Buells. The factory's solution was to go to plastic stick-on labels. Apparently the clear coated appliques trapped vapors and would thus bubble up. You may be able to obtain free of charge a new tank with the plastic raised lettering type labels. Your dealer and the factory customer service folks should be able to tell you for sure. |

Bob, Welcome to the BadWeB. Sounds like you will have a lot to offer in the way of technical advice and moto related experience/stories. Hope to see you relate some of that through the cooler months ahead. There indeed are ongoing conversations about the chopperization of the tube frame Buells. I ride a '97 Cyclone. It is the antithesis of a chopper and will stay that way. |

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hi! I'm the new Buell chick in town! My name is Angela, I just got an '05 Lightning, XB9SX. I'm working on some height issues, I'm only 5'2"-n'change. When I work out all the issues, I'll let everyone know what worked, so other shorties will have some extra info..Yep..I did the low seat and tall boots...obviously I have a super short inseam..lol I bought my bike from Dale Thompson, salesman extrodinaire at Port Charlotte HD/Buell. Dale and his manager Derek are major Buellers, and are excellent at customer care! I live in Fort Lauderdale and deal with Billy, Ken and Tim at Pompano Beach HD/Buell..those guys, especially Billy take VERY good care of me!!! I'm a very new rider and am getting my bearing with my new baby...soon I'll be on the road and ready to ride with some fun Buellers!!! Thanks for a GREAT website Angela |

well, gone and done it, took a big hit and sold an 04' BM'1150rt and bought a buell XB12R. first impression is, space shuttle (the chassis) meets noah's ark power! (the motor) but that's not a bad thing as iv'e owned 60ish bikes and ridden a lot more beside's, one thing iv'e learn't is that thing's can get a bit too sanatised. that's why the norton, and T500 suzuki are keepers, and the fireblade's and blackbird's have come and gone. the biggest downer at the minute?, breaking in! 100k's an hour for 1600k's?, that's going to hurt! especially as the mad trucker's here in their 420 horse scania's and volvo's typically run 100-140k's per hour!, they dont stop too good!. so breaking in will have to be a cautious affair in more ways than one!. martin, dubai, U.A.E. |

Congratulations Martin! Where did you get the 100kph for 1,600 km break-in specification? That sounds a bit overzealous compared to what the owner's manuals say...
quote:The First 500 Miles (800 Kilometers
To properly wear-in critical parts during the first 500 miles (800 kilometers), please observe the simple riding rules below. This will assure future performance and durability.
1. During the first 50 miles (80 kilometers), keep the engine speed below 2500 RPM in all gears and do not exceed 50 mph (80 kph). Do not allow the engine to lug. 2. For the first 500 miles (800 kilometers), vary the engine speed and avoid riding at the same speed for long distances. Engine speeds up to 3000 RPM are permissible in any gear after 50 miles (80 kilometers) have accumulated. but Do not exceed 55 mph (89 kph) for the first 50-500 miles (80-800 kilometers). 3. Avoid fast starts at wide open throttle. Drive slowly until engine warms up. 4. Refer to Upshift (Acceleration) Gear Speeds: 2005 XB Models and Downshift (Deceleration) Gear Speeds: 2005 XB Models. Follow table guidelines for when to shift gears. Avoid running the engine at extremely low RPM in higher gears. 5. Avoid hard braking. New brakes need to be broken-in by moderate use for the first 200 miles (300 kilometers). From Buell Owner's Manual Online
Cheers, Blake PS: Take some pics of you and your new Firebolt XB12R in Dubai and post 'em up in a new topic on the board. |

thank's blake, that's not so bad on the breaking in!. got confused between the sales guy, "dont go over 3000rpm for the 1st 1600k's, and the "breakin maintenance". so the lesson for today is, read the owners manual!. no problem with the pic's, will post some soon. and thanks for the welcome. martin. |
