Thanks for reminding me! My clutch cable broke also, must be some sort of Buell defect, I only had 26thousand miles on the bike at the time. HELP PREVENT BUELL-DEFECTS, DEMAND A RECALL!!! |

I've owned 6 Buells, ridden over a 1,000 in 44 states in the last 20 years. I don't believe you. The Buell (listen closely) IS MORE RELIABLE THAN THE HONDA. I think you should sell your Buell. Court |

I only have about 4k on my 12r, but it is my second Beull, noproblems with either. Both have ridden the Alps, flawlessly. I laid my 12r down on the way to the Alps on a big oilslick on an offramp on the autobahn. It wound up wedged under a guardrail. Me and my old man pulled it out, got all the dirt off of it, put a turnsignal back together(it survived), started it back up, and rode another 800 miles in the mountains. My 12r rocks, I regularly was doing about 120-130mph for extended periods as well. |

It would be interesting to see some stats... like if there were some magical way of statistically measuring overall reliability and cost-of-ownership among motorcycle brands (and no, not like the crap Consumer Reports publishes for cars). I would bet you dollars to horse turds that the Buell brand would come out well above average. Not that I would ever make a moto buying decision based on stats... don't things like passion and soul still have meaning? They do for me. Otherwise I'd be riding a nice, tidy, soulless Japanese "appliance" I beat on my Buell pretty hard,,, I might as well be beating on an anvil. |

I can respect DJ's opinion and I believe this is his experience with his bike. HOWEVER, this is not my experience with Buell. My biggest concern before buying my '03 'bolt was reliability. I'd heard stories on the internet and what not and a friend owns a 2000 M2 that he's had some problems with. After reading this board, I decided to take the plunge and buy one. After 8700 miles, I've had NO problems at all. I don't race and just do normal street riding, but it's been a pleasure to own my Buell. I do maintain it -- oil changes and new tires, but that's ALL. The biggest recurring problem I've had thus far is the battery cable comes loose every few thousand miles, requiring me to remove the seat and tighten the cable with a screwdriver. I'm very happy with my decision to go Buell and am looking to buy the Lightning Long in a few years, when I can find a great deal on a used one. |

Bought a used 03 XB9R in February with 1,800 miles. Now have 11,250 miles. Pretty much just tires and fluids for me. Rode 275 miles today. Sunny, temp about 78 degrees and leaves on the trees turning red, orange, yellow and loose. Great day to ride. Great bike to do the ride with... |

my o4 12s with 15,000 + miles runs behind 1000cc japs in the straights and in front of them in the corners. clutch cable about 1500 miles ago to lack of lubrication. the trans is shifting funny now but i'm sure that is due to the rider. i had no problems at all with my 98 s1w. i traded a honda cbr900rr for my 98 s1w. i wouldn't ride anything else. everyone i ride with is amazed at how the bike runs. |
