Hey, was looking into Motorcycle communication systems. I've looked at chatterbox and autocom units. Does anyone use either of these brands? The autocom units are actually 1/2 price right now and I'd imagine they are better quality, but it looks like you also have to buy a kenwood radio too. I'm looking to hook up a cell phone and discman, in the future probably a radar detector as well. If anyone has any information on these systems it would be apprecaiated.

I have Autocom in several bikes, K1200RS, GL1800, CBR929, Duc Monster 620, just getting ready to order for new 12SS, I love the Autocom, it works great, My past experience is above 70 MPH on most the ablity to understand and or hear the other people goes away, the Autocom is good to well over 100MPH, it can accept a cell, mp3, etc. I also have the Kenwood radios, the 1/2 price option is great. Looking at my bike it will be tight to get it in, but well worth it. if you have any questions please PM me and I will be glad to share.

Bluetooth is already here but it's gonna get bigger. That's why wires are 'half price'.

I have the chatterbox and it is crap. Not the cheap one either, I have the GMRS X1, their flagship model. Also purchased the noise canceling mic and headphones. It is year old and has been back to the mfg 2 times. In their defense they did fix it both times without cost. Buying crack would have been a better use of money. When it works it is marginal. My advice is buy anything but the crapperbox!

Bluetooth, that would make sense why they are cutting prices in half, the systems I have work extremely well.

do you have any information on the bluetooth?

I ran an autocom on my BMW for a while before switching to the S3T. It worked reasonably well, but I was never quite satisfied with the background electrical noise level on the unit.

I don't ride 2-up anymore so I ended up selling it and saving the alternator output on the S3T for other stuff.

I'd definately recommend bluetooth though.

Autocom is coming out with a new line for 2006, that is why current models are 1/2 off. Most models will not be Bluetooth yet, just better quality and more features. I've got an Autocom on my Beemer, and it works fine.

I have two Collett's. They work really well. My brother and I got them. We don't use them often though as we don't get a chance to ride together too much. We're interested in selling them. They're in brand new condition.

I also have chatterboxs, as stated they are junk. There performance is not reliable and get this they mount to the outside of your helmet, but there not water proof!! Go with something else you'll be glad you did.

The autocomms are crap. Don't even bother. I bought them and returned them. I was tempted to get the chatterbox, but someone on the board, can't remember who, told me the colletts worked really well. I bought them and we were surprised at how well they work, especially after trying out the autocomms. Even at highway speeds they work well. The only thing I wish was better is the quality of the earpieces that go in your helmet. They're fine for talking, but not too good for music. Let me know if you have any other questions about them.

I just picked up an Autocom, for 1/2 off I couldn't resist.

I am going for a buddy ride 11/11-14 so I will test it out then, and let you know how I like it.

Hand signals works for riding with a buddy, but it's really hard to carry on a cell-phone conversation that way!

I'm going Auto-comm as well. 1/2 price is great. Their track demo at triple digit speed is convincing too!

As my senior project, I designed and developed a motorcycle communication system that allows both full-duplex and wireless communication. It combines the best features of the tethered intercomm, which is both riders being able to talk at the same time, and the wireless system, which is no wires. I don't have a patent on the design, nor do I have a fully-functional prototype, but I do have a working model. If there are any engineers on this board with a lot of time to spare and would like the idea of developing something like this, let me know. I have been looking for a way to complete this project, but I do not have the time or resources at the moment, and I am afraid that the design will be taken before I can make a product out of it. And for you non-engineers, would a product like this interest you? I have tried a few other feelers on other groups and have not gotten much of a response.

one question i have is if i get one brand will it work with any of the others? for instance: if i buy an autocomm, and a buddy of mine has a chatterbox, can we talk to each other? or do we have to have the same brand.

is it like a walky talky where you just pick a frequency and everyone shares it?

Taxman, Yes just like walkie talkies. Autocom does not have a built in two-way radio like the Chatterbox.

I am so happy chatterbox is getting all of these fine reviews. They have given me a severe case of the red a$$. Nice to see good products and people being recognized and bad vendors identified. Its one of the reasons im here, well that and the pipe wars!
