Steve, I'm thinking of building the engine on my xb12r and was wondering who built your race motor (Ernie?) and what's in it, how reliable it's been, power, bore vs stroke, etc. I know you have the race only ECM, but I am thinking that some of the re-flashing options coming soon my allow enough fuel for more the 100 rwhp... xbolt12 |

I built the motor starting from the XB9 and over-bored it to 3 13/16 bore so it now is a short-stroke 1169cc bike. I kept the compression ratio down to 10.5 to try to keep from burning it up - even so, it's putting about 103HP to the ground but has to spin up pretty fast to do it (7800RPM redline for racing, I bump redline to 8000 for dyno runs). I am not as familiar with the XB12 and what mods will work with that motor. Because I'm a racer, I can now get discounts at Glendale but when I did the work, I paid retail for a full stage 3 setup, valves, springs, roller rockers, cams, hydrosolids, pushrods, exhaust (Beson), pistons, and had it lightened and balanced at Bartels. Got the high pressure fuel pressure regulator from Duga to increase throttle response and a "flat" spot at about 3/4 throttle range Bartels only works on the racers bikes and doesn't any more retail race engine machining that I'm aware of. Glendale can get you the bits and pieces BUT if you are serious about the engine performance and can afford it, Revolution or NRHS sells all the goodies and can do the machining. Hal's also sells everything you would need as well AND they do know what works in the racing motors. Gotta run. Diving tomorrow and just got back in from a week businness trip and running out of time. I'll get back to you! (Message edited by slaughter on October 29, 2005) |

You can call talk to Bryan at Revolution, he knows alot. I am on my way to installing a 90"kit from him in my bike. I have a xb9 but I am going to put the 12 flywheels into it. I will be doing the work myself. Also give Richard at shout at IMR (www.racingmotorcycles.com) he told me 115hp for about $4000 or so and a realiably engine. He also builds the engines over at his place and dyno tunes them to. I have been researching engine work alot and We looking at starting a race team next season so my plans are coming soon. Welcome to contact me and I would tell you who I talked to. |

Good point about Rich. He set me up with my steering damper and I know he has a lot of experience due to managing the former Formula Extreme effort. I didn't think he would mess with a non-race bike though. I'll have to give him a call. Thanks, xbolt12 |

when I talked to him about building my engine a while back, I told him that I would not be on a track just yet, That was maybe 6 months ago |

Okay Rageonthedl, Thanks pal thats really good info... For me here in Canada to spend like 1500. or more to send my heads to anyone and only receive 5 -6 ponies for that I`ll port and polish them myself as I have done in the past on other HD`s.... 300. 00 for each pony is WAYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyy to muchhhhhhhh for the street .Be different If one was all out drag racing etc.etc. where every little bit helps...Thanks again.. |
