So, I'm sitting in the chair, getting my hair cut at supercuts. In comes some guy asking if that was my bike outside. I said Yep, thinking he wanted to talk about it. NOPE. He said, a guy just hit your bike and it's laying on the ground!! Well, my cut was ended short. I go out there, and luckily the guy stayed. It's a FORD delivery guy on his first day of the job in the company truck. He was somehow backing up, turning around. He hit my tire and pushed the bike right over on the right side. Luckily there isn't much damage. The guy was scared, being his first day. So I told him we can take care of it without his boss finding out. I get witness names and numbers just in case. Anyway he looks at the bike and sees the throttle grip is trashed, the front blinker is hanging off, and says "That's it right, just that". I'm like hell no, look at the scuffed frame puck, the scuffed mirror, scuffed Dark Horse Moto frame sliders, busted foot peg feeler (anyone have any luck getting those out after they have snapped off??), scuffed passenger foot peg (not worried about), and bent front brake handle. So, he calls me that night and said his boss wants to see the bike. Okay, so he fessed up and told his boss. Good for him. So, now the Service manager wants a parts list with pricing, and wants to see the bike. I can see how this is going to go. I don't give a crap if the slider and mirror isn't "BROKEN", but it's not like it was when the bike was upright! So, I need help from you, trusty Buellers. I have all the p/n's(still never ordered the parts manual) for most of the stuff. I need help on the P/N's for the following: Right Front Turn Signal, Hand Brake Lever, Right side mirror(Standard short style, '03 model). I think that should do it. I've got the other stuff. Thanks a bunch. I have to bring it down Thursday with the bike. I'm gonna ask for a free oil change on my Expedition for the labor I will incur fixing this crap. | ||

Pull the handle bar and check it-it is most likely bent if its a Firebolt (creased where it comes out of the triple clamp). The good news is most of the stuff is very reasonably priced. On my Buell (see my post), the handlebar (they give you a pair),the left mirror, left turn signal, both grips, left bar slider, rubber with bushings and bolt for the shifter came to $90 with a 10% discount including CA tax. I didn't buy pegs because I had my stock Firebolt pegs on the shelf-but those are only $13 each-which brings up another point-replace that peg. You wouldn't believe how easily mine snapped right off from a simple fall off the stand. For $13 it's not worth keeping.... BTW, I replaced anything with a scratch except the passenger peg and the primary case and I expect the guy who dropped my bike to pay. My guess is the company involved in your case will be relieved when they see how cheap the bill is. It would be many times that on a rice rocket and even worse on a Ducati.... xbolt12 | ||

ugh, i feel for you Newxb9er. Xbolt is sooo correct in this statement... "It would be many times that on a rice rocket and even worse on a Ducati.... " Cost me like $70-80 for tipover parts from Daves but a friend of mine with a brand new Monster had it knocked over by some girl in a bank parking lot... $4K in damage! she backed into it and tried to prop it up and leave! hope everything works out for you. did you search Daves thread in the sponsor section? he does a good job of listing p/n's. Do yourself a favor and file an accident report with the police. That way you have the company insurance and if they try to shaft you, the ins. co. will handle it. Sometimes you try to be the nice guy and it turns out to bite you in the butt. You do not have to call their ins. co. and file a claim. It just puts the leverage in your hand to take care of business the way it's supposed to be. You have 72hrs. to file an accident report in the state of Illinois. I can write those reports with my eyes closed by now. Good Luck! | ||

Yep, call it in to the insurance company and take the bike to a dealership for an estimate of repairs. You tried to be nice, management is playing a game possibly, so bring in the referees and game-on. Plus, they can come to you to see the bike if they really want to see it so bad. | ||

I wouldn't bring the bike to them! They can use it against you. If you find more damage as you start to replace parts they can refuse to pay. If they see the bike they will have leverage over you even if you go to the insurance company because they can write a statement detailing what was damaged and what wasn't. On principal alone I wouldn't bring the bike to them. If they want to see it, they can come to you. They have caused you an inconvenience and want you to do them a favor of bringing the bike to them, no way! Sounds fishy to me man, go through the police and insurance. | ||

"take the bike to a dealership for an estimate of repairs." That's all you need to do, present them with a repair estimate and ask them for the name of their insurance agent - deal directly with him, unless this company is willing to pay you the EXACT amount of the estimate. If your state is like mine (Nebraska) the PD won't file a report on an accident on private property, but you should be able to get and file a state accident report yourself (probably necessary if you want his insurance Co to pay). Thanks a lot for all the information everyone. I think I will bring it over to the dealership for an estimate. If they want to see my bike, they can come see me. I felt that way, but then the nice guy part of me kicked in. I understand what you are saying though. In California, you're only supposed to call the police if it's over $500.00 I think. Some number like that. Not going to be that much. In any case, I think I should bring it in, so the dealership can have a look see. I'll call my insurance company today and let them know. I really appreciate everyones help in the matter. I'll let you know what happens. I usually get my parts from Daves, but if they want to pay the dealership directly, then so be it. My dealership doesn't have the Dark Horse Moto sliders, so I'll just have to show them the price on that. I'll let you know what happens. | ||

Wisconsin also has a number below which the cops won't bother to come out most of the time BUT you can call in a report and they will file a report for any amount. My wife got rear ended with very minmal damage on her company car and the company requires a police report. Call it in, at least then you have aa official third party involved jsut in case. | ||

In Michigan we also do not take private property crashes, but my department takes all the info and gives the parties a form to send into the Ins. so basicly you just get a report number. Hard Corps |
