Well, I was looking for some cold weather protection for my hands in the few months its cold here in Atlanta. I traded here on the BadWeb for some CityX Hand Guards. I didn't like the bulkiness of them so I decided to make some out of CF using the stock ones for molds. Here is the results: The pics really don't do them justice. They turned out really nice and very light. Winterizing is not a word used very often around these parts. |

Just wish the stock CityX ones would clear the fairing on the Firebolts, it was in the 40s here this morning. |

Those look great! Are you going to make more and sell them? If so, I'd love a set for my Uly Have you considered making switch-gear covers to replace the stock plastic bits? |

No plans to sell. Too hard for me to mass produce these items. Just kind of a side project/hobby and one offs for my personal use. I have made all the other CF bits on the bike as well. Don't worry Blake, wouldn't dream of selling stuff unless I was a sponsor. |

B_S -Where did you find the raw CF and resin? |

Tq_freak.....I use it everyday at work so I made it there. I'm a CP (Certified Prosthetist). I design, fabricate and fit artificial limbs for a living. It's cloth bidirectional weave CF and 80/20 (80% flex and 20% rigid) acrylic resin. I get it from a prosthetic supply company. |

Black, Do you have a link for the prostethic supplier? I'm betting some here would love to try their hand at a little CF work. Your parts look very good. Obviously you've done that type work many times before. Prostethic work must be very satisfying. You know that at the end of each day, your labor/work has helped someone in a very large way. Very cool... (both the parts and what you do!). Brad |

Brad....The link is www.spt-tech.com Their prices are pretty reasonable. Of course I buy in bulk and get discounts. I use the carbon cloth. Usually my lay-up is 1 CF sheet-2 nylon-1 CF sheet. If you want more strength then maybe a 1CF-1nylon-1CF-1 nylon-1CF. If even more then go to the braided tubes. If your part is just for looks and no function then it makes no difference what your layup is. I bet with all the plastic replaced with CF on my bike I shaved off around 8 pounds. I really enjoy going to work each day and helping people get their life back close to normal. Never a dull moment or the same thing twice. Thanks for the compliments. Our website is www.atlantapo.com if you want to check it out. |

Black_Sunshine - thanx for the info and the links. I have messed around with fiberglass before (and I do me mess) is it pretty similar stuff? I have never gotten a chance to handle a peice of uncooked CF and didnt know how hard it would be go get it to hold its shape while it is curing or is it easyer to make a mold. Side note, saw some of your work on your works web site and that is amazing, you do awsome work..wow thats all i can say |

Tq_freak....It acts just like fiberglass but I would suggest making a mold and working under vacuum using the PVA bags that SPT sells. |
