ok so somehow i ended up installing the battery upside down cause the bike was in pieces when i got it and seemed to fit together ok... only thing was that when i hooked up the battery ( reverse polarity by accident) the fan came on and wouldnt stop and the keyswitch fuse blew. after scratching my head for a while i found the reversed polarity problem, flipped the battery around and hooked up the right polarity now the keyswitch fuse keeps blowing and there is no power to any thing else on the bike lights, speedo, horn etc. works either. so is the bike tootally screwed now? is there anything i can try to fix it? please help!!!! | ||

I had the exact same problem on my 04 xb12r. Change your relays and you should be fine. My battery came backwards from the factory. The tech working on it found the relay problem by happenstance. Good luck. | ||

WELL blake is moving the post, but i will reply here. because it is not IN the KV. the fuse did it's job it fried, most likely protected your ecm . you likely cooked the voltage regulator, easy enough to check the regulator with a test lamp and the motorcycles own battery, just see if it passes current in the normal direction ( it should not). inexpensive part to replace anyway, and you probably want a spare to hang on the wall.. maybe you got lucky. good luck, and i hope your dealer knows what they are doing. | ||

if you suspect the relay, just remove them, put in a fresh fuse, plug in relays one at a time, when the fuse blows, you will have found "THE" relay. same goes for the voltage regulator, and ecm, fresh fuse, sequencially plug in the components that you suspect of shorts. plug in the the regulator, if the fuse has not blown, then that regulator is not shorted. fuses are 20 cents when purchased in bulk. | ||

Ohhhh Nooooo.... Things that go POOF when the black & red get reversed... Try disconnecting the regulator/rectifier, then try a new fuse and switch the ignition on. This is not polarity protected and can fail if this happens. If the fuse stays ok, then try to start it, if it runs you dodged a bullet, if not, well, this may get expen$ive. | ||

Hey Guys, Here's the deal if you inadvertently hook up your battery backwards on a Buell; 1) your cooling fan will run immediately in reverse at high speed. 2) after you disconnect your battery, your 15Amp "KEY SWITCH" fuse will be blown. If you replace just the fuse, It will just blow again as soon as you turn the ignition on. See Below. 3) Your "Key Switch" Relay will also be blown. You can buy one on Amazon for $7.(Standard Motorcycle Products Micro Starter Relay MC-RLY5) 4) When you get the Relay, look at the legend on your fuse box cover and identify your key switch relay and replace it with the MC-RLY5 that you get from Amazon. Then replace the 15Amp Key Switch fuse. And your ready to Rock! |
