I messed with the wiring yesterday to relocate the horn. This morning when I turn the key to "on", everything acted normal. When I hit the ignition button, hell, it went "click" and the bike died. No lights (dash, headlight...)nothing. Battery checked out fine. Now when I turn the key, still nothing, but interesting thing is that after I turn the key back to "off", after 2 seconds the gauges would sweep. What is going on? I've checked the fuses on the right side of the dash. How do I know if the relays on the left side is good or not? Where else should I start to check? |

it sounds like you have a short to ground somewhere, i would start with checking all the wiring that you did yesterday with the horn and maybe even set it back to stock and see if the problem still happens |

That's what I am planning to do. My horn's wiring hookup is exactly the same as stock except for the location of the horn. No cutting of wire or anything. Only unplugged, then re-plugged back in. For a grounded wire, would it cause the bike to have no light whatsoever? |

Or you may have lost a ground, check the battery cables, and any wire connections to ground on the engine or frame. Also, check the fuses, and don't forget the main near the battery (Message edited by xb9 on October 24, 2005) |

If that's the case then the gauges should not sweep "after" I turn the key off, should they? |

Oh, does it matter if my wires on the horn are swapped? There is not ground / positive to the horn is there? Dont know if that would cause it though even if they are swapped. |

if it's a poor or loose ground problem, it may be intermitten, or act where some things work, some don't. |

are you sure you went to the off position or did you go past off to the parking light position where the gauges will sweep. there should be a power and a ground sent to the horn but the order that they are in shouldnt matter the horn would work either way. did you unhook the battery before you started to do any of your wiring? if so make sure that both battery ends are tight on the battery. Also if you dont have one get a service manual, there are great wiring diagrams in the back |

Tq, I am sure I didn't go pass the "off" to parking light position. Also, I didn't unhook the battery since I was only messing with the two horn wires. Hell, don't even know where I should start looking. So frustrating. I do have the manual. |

Hk- i didn't mean to come across like an a$$ but its hard to diagnose stuff over the internet, . I wouldn't have disconected the battery either cause your right its two wires. I don't know what else to say cause its kinda weird just check your grounds |

What do you mean by " the battery checked out fine"? what equipment or technique was used to make this determination? have you done the following? 1) visually check each of the fuses. 2) remove clean and replace both battery terminal leads. 3)remove clean and replace the chassis ground lead. 4) fully charge and load test battery. |

Fullpower, yup, those were checked. No corrison or anything. Basically just one day when I hit the ignition button, everything just went DEAD after hearing "click"... |
