Is that an S2 or is it something masquerading as one? Where did that sidestand come from? -Saro |

It looks like the bike has a VR-1000 paint scheme.

That sidestand is the one (it looks like) that appeared on the cover of the June (I think) 1996 cover of Cycle World showing the yellow S-1. The bike used for the photo was pre-production and the stand (shown mounted to the cases) was moved to enhance strucural integrity. Looks to me like someone has replicated the case mounted arrangement. Works well . . just be careful with it. |

Someone some years ago retrofitted a lengthened Honda kick-stand to the 2 long screws at the bottom of the primary cover in order to remedy the leaning S2s. I have no personal experience, but I think the load may have been a bit much for the cast aluminum primary, and I haven't seen it mentioned as a fix lately. Henrik |

I don't think I would ever want to apply force to the cases like that. |

That's Carey's (used to be CareyJ, now Azbueller, I think) S2, with black on one side, orange on the other. It does indeed have the case mounted arrangement, and he had it that way for a long time with no issues until he sold the bike this year. It isn't that different than what is on ALL XB series bikes, I think. regardless of that, I'm pretty sure the two BIG bolts that go thru the primary cover and into the engine cases are the FOOTPEG mounts on a sporty with non-forward controls. Properly utilized, they can take the load just fine. The cover takes very little of the load, the engine case takes most of it. Those two bolts are 5/16-18, not 1/4-20. I have milled sideplates for S2's in stock that let you use the standard Buell kickstand on an S2. They work and look great. But the milled sideplates are quite pricey. Al |

It's was my S2, I sold her in May 05 and I had that kickstand on since 1998 with no problems at all. Not only two longer bolts into the engine case, I also welded a piece of flat steel to the backside to support the bottom, drilled a hole for the primary adjuster to go through it so it has three mounting points. The stand originally came off a CBR900RR. (Message edited by careyj on October 19, 2005) |

Hi Carey; thanks for chiming in. I actually have a 900 RR kickstand in a box somewhere. Never got around to modifying it to fit the S2. AFAIR it took some welding etc. which I don't have access to. Still like the clean look of it. Henrik |

Not rear sets. $550 for the pair. I'd post a picture, but I'm at my dad's place in Florida at the moment and don't have access to the pictures here. Nice pieces, though. Al |

From the October 1995 issue of Cycle World: Some B&W shots that shed a little more light on the details: The loading and unloading of the sidestand on the prototype S1's virtually disintegrated the primary cover gaskets which caused leaks and eventually lead to problems with the primary covers. Careyj's addition of the third mounting point seems to have aided in the long term durability. Although you gotta wonder how things would have been with the current replacement metal based primary cover gaskets were in use back then. 1313 |

Yes. I also have this issue. Isn't it the one where there is a picture of a rider roosting it up in some dirt? |
