Got a chance to look at an Uly this week. Unfortunatly it's across the state line in California. I'm wondering what the differences are between the CA and 49 state versions and if I should wait until a 49 state Uly is available in my area. |

If it's similar to other CA model Buell's, I'm guessing it has a charcoal canister on the end of a fuel vent hose tucked in there somewhere. |

CA Ulys are ridden by fruits and nuts. |

My CA Ulysses definitely has the charcoal canister. And I'm keeping it! What many don't realize is that the canister is the single most important anti-pollution device on a motorcycle. A fuel tank vented to atmosphere will emit more harmful VOX in 1 day of sitting in the sun than will be emitted from the tailpipe in a year of riding. Plus it supposedly improves economy, when the engine is running it's supposed to suck the vapors from the canister back for combustion. But you guys know CA Buells are spoiled! Great weather, beaches, mountains and of course, CA girls! Jim in Santa Barbara |

I realize it would have the charcoal canister. I was more concerned about the possibility of a catalitic converter or different timing or programming for the fuel injection and ignition. Cliff |

Hi Cliff, No CATS! Buell has proven that air cooled pushrod technology can meet the stringent 2008 CA emissions standards now! Good stuff. AFAIK no different FI map or anything else. I'll know more when my FSM arrives. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

DANG! The Uly was already gone. I'm still waiting to see one for real. |

Hi Cliff, too bad you missed it. I am very pleased with my Uly. I've read about some niggles here and there with timing, pinging and surging, but I've had none of the above. In any event it sounds like buying good fuel and a thousand mile service gets everything up to snuff. My bike is a hoot to ride, ergos are super comfy, the vibes a non-issue (not sure about extending riding standing on the pegs as on a dual sport ride, haven't tried that yet). Good luck, Jim in Santa Barbara |

I called some nearby dealers and finally saw a Uly in person. They had it back in the shop. My first impression, tall! I'm 6-1, 200lbs with a 34" inseam. I could barely put my feet flat while sitting on it. Seems like a well made bike and looks neat. They will sell it for MSRP plus freight/set up, tax, doc fees. Total is $12,800 OTD. It's the first one they've got and I was not able to ride it. Maybe they'll throw in the first service free. |
