So I have to say after spending almost 200.00 dollars on frame sliders I was very disappointed in the low speed drop test my girlfriend had with my bike. Any faster and I would be looking for a head on e-bay right now. ok a little history here, 2003 XB9R with new sliders and after a 5 MPH dump the damn left side slider snapped off (taking the motor mount out with it)And then I had the worst time getting the bolts out cause one was bent at a 45 angle AND then I get told by the manufacturer that that shouldn't have happened(but it did) so their solution buy new ones and send the old ones back and they might send me a check if they feel that the parts were defective. so anyone else have problems with LSL? |

I've seen picture of the LSL and must say that it doesn't look at all secure. I mean, you attached it to the motormount? That's gotta be just a bad design. So if the bike fall, all 400lb of shear force going to be on that little bolt that connects to the motor? I don't think that will hold, doesn't matter even if its a stand-still drop. I'd feel safer w/ OEM frame pucks and maybe the aluminum fork / swingarm sliders. |

I would in no way rely on only ONE form of slider protection. As mentioned you'd want to spread out the force of any impact. I have the LSL frame sliders on my bike but have yet to put them to the test. Atop those I have added the Buell frame sliders as well as front & rear axle sliders. Did you take pictures of how it broke? Please post those to see what broke and see how they might of failed. |

Well the right side slider bent at the machined edge where it mounts and ripped the small support bolt that use to hold the clutch cable and it snaped the motor mount outer bolt hole I would take pics but I sent the motor mount and slider to LSL in ohio for credit |

hi i've used the lsl sliders, plus carbon frame and pucks attached as well, plus front and rear axle sliders. did your frame get damaged when dropped. |

1st time I saw the XB frame sliders from LSL, I shuddred. I knew they wouldn't do the job. You just confirmed it. The Buell frame pucks do their job well, and are dirt cheap. |

at $200 us they aren't exactly what I'd call disposable. After looking at them, I think they must have rushed the design process. there is no way a structural engineer signed off on those. I'd love to see the results of a finite element analysis on them. I wouldn't replace them with more of the same if I were you. The Buell frame pucks are a proven technology, and at $40 they are disposable. I have swing arm spool sliders on mine, and I will be making axle sliders when I find a little bit of Nylon, or delrin to make them out of. I will also be making some bar end sliders out of the same material when I get around to it. All of the sliders total will still cost less than a pair of the LSL sliders. I'm sorry that they failed on you, but look at it this way, at least you didn't find out at high speed where serious damage could have occured. (Message edited by diablobrian on October 15, 2005) |

I think I'll just stick with the proven frame pucks. |

Those things look like a catastrophe waiting to happen. Or I guess now with knowing John's unfortunate experience we can be a bit more definite and say that they are a catastrophe waiting to happen. Way too much cantilever (long stick) imparting too much stress on important/expensive parts. Doesn't Al at American Sport Bike refuse to carry the things for just this very reason? |

Me too. There is no way they are going to protect your bike. |

they look good but thats isnt goin to keep your bike looking good, i agree with everyone else, to long of an arm and bad mount spot |

Blake, I actually have the answer to that question. Ive had my XB12R for about 2 months now. This being my first new bike, I decided to look into all possible protection in case she goes down. Al had told me, (although he sells them) that I would be crazy to put those things on my bike. He explained how they attatch to the engine mount and that if the bike goes down, it will most likely loosen the mounting bolts, thus actually causing MORE damage. He said to stick with the frame pucks and definitely get some fork and swingarm sliders and that it! Im glad I read this post because now this proves his theory. PS!! Watch your kickstands guys. I though mine was all the way extended down the otherday and it wasnt. I got off the bike and I saw her starting to fall. I caught her but she was all ready past that point so I let her down on her side gently, and then mustered up enough strength to right her up. No real damage just a small scratch on the backside of the left mirror, and the rubber tip on the shifter is slightly chewed. Guess I got off lucky this time. Buell shouldve incorporated a kickstand light on the instrument cluster. |
