FINALLY found some killer curves today while out on the job search Hooked up with an R1 n CBR600 rider,We rode about 45 miles of 15-30mph curves and I was STRAIGHT KILLIN EM THE WHOLE WAY!!! They had to brake WAY before me and couldn't hold any of the lines even half as fast as I could. So for about 90 miles and about n hour n a half of riding I felt like I'd FINALLY found were the bike is happy,SMOKIN R1's n CBR's in the twisties. I like my X a lot but I am having a hard time setting the suspension up. Cannot get the feel I want going downhill and into sharp corners. I set my static sag this evening to 30mm in the front and 35mm in the rear. It took backing the compression out until 6 lines were showing before it hit the 30mm sag setting. I am going to ride to work all this week and just maybe by the weekend I will have it figured out. I know once I get it dialed in it will be fun. |

what i found worked out really well for me was setting everything 1 setting higher than my recomended weight. you might like that if you give it a try. |

Mountainrider, how much do you weight? I tend to have the same experience as Buell666. I needed to set the suspension to a 195lbs person. I weight 175lbs. |

Mountainrider, I don't know how far you are from the Florida-Georgia line. Computrack sets up shop at Jennings GP motorcycle track in N. Florida. They set up my suspension on my track bike for $50. Money well spent, It made a world of difference. |

First they took a base line with my current settings. They questioned me on how the bike was handling, did I have any wheel chatter in high speed turns, how did the bike reacted under heavy braking, etc. Had me sit on the bike with gear to set the correct sag for my weight. Made adjustments with the clickers tuning this and that, taking notes and marking my forks to measure the travel. I would take the bike on the track for a few laps then bring it in and tell them what worked and what did not. Kept making small adjustments until she was dialed in. They documented everything and I got a nice worksheet with settings. When they were finished it was like a new bike. It seems simple and I know you can get out the manual and make adjustments yourself. But having someone experienced in tuning suspension saves a lot of time with trial and error. |

Keith I am just tring different stuff right now. Today I put the front at 35mm and backed off a half round of rebound. I will ride it home this evening and see how I like it. |

Yesterday was also the first time my bike has EVER wheelied in 3rd gear,Who knew if u went over just the right rise at 80mph you could go all Isle of man. (Message edited by buelltroll on October 11, 2005) |

i used to get air changing into 4th at 90mph when i first got my xb12r .. now even w/ racekit, i rarely get air .. i think i subconsciously adjusted my body positioning to control all that fun stuff?! found bike wheeled best on factory settings when i first got it .. since then i have lost 20#s & have hardened susp. to 6 lines at front & full preload at rear .. i guess thats where the wheelies went?! ah .. better rubber reqd tho. smoked rear off already in 3500 miles. |
