The last time I remembered being at the Best Western Braddock Motor Inn there in LaVale, it didn't accomodate tailers that easily, or that many. Should be interesting, then again I've been known to be wrong before. But I'll be there!

My wifes new 2006 Mustang GT won't be in for another week or so after that.

I am really looking forward to going.
Running the Blue Ridge last year was very enjoyable.
However, I will be keeping an eye on the weather before taking the seven hour drive from eastern Long Island.
Unfortunately, the current forecast is "Few Showers". Doesn't mean much now, but I will be checking again before I leave.
Here is the URL for the Weather Channel forecast in this area:

http://www.weather.com/activities/health/allergies/weather/tenday.html?locid=USM D0115&from=monthAvgGraph_topnav_allergies

Let's hope we get good weather. Last year we had to deal with the aftermath of a Hurricane :-)

NOAA predicts a 20-30 % chance of rain for Wednesday night though Saturday morning. If it less than 50% the chances are slim that it'll rain, so just a rain suit and I'll be good to go!! Oh, and temps are forecast of 78/57 (Wed), 70/55 (Thur), and 61/44 (Fri). Looks like it's getting colder as the week goes on.

Oh, rainfall for each day is expected to be less than a 10th of an inch, so looks like sprinkles of any.

on a side note I rode my 2001 x1 in about 300 miles of rain from pioria IL to Fortwayne IN

Hurricain rita rain , was light and steady. Brag trips should not have rain !!! : )

I left for Lavale a little before noon on Wed. Carlos (m2nc) and his wife Kristi, had graciously offered me a spot on their trailer and a ride in their truck. (Yes, I know that real bikers don't use trailers.)

It's a 400 mile ride to Lavale, and we didn't arrive until a little after 7:00 pm, so we only caught the last 5 minutes of the riders meeting. I didn't really mind missing the meeting, but I was worried about missing dinner. Fortunatly Peggy (BRAG person) got us registered and found us some food.

The next morning there were a couple of presentations by (John Fox?) from Buell. I enjoyed them, and leaned some interesting stuff, though I would have prefered that they had been that night so they wouldn't cut into riding time.

The presentations and the group picture were wrapped up about 11:00, and it was time to ride. BRAG rides are not set up as large group rides. Instead, you're encouraged to find a few people and go out in small groups. I was part of a group of 4, consisting of Edstevens, on an XB9SL, who I had met last year at running the ride, Carlos and Kristi, riding 2 up on the only red M2 at the event, and me on my Blast. Eddie was from the area and took us on a route loosely based on what BRAG had planned.

We started out on some fairly curvy mountain roads. There were some wild log trucks which made the route "interesting." At one point, on a particulary twisty section, I got a chance to lead the group. That was fun because I could ride fast enough that I didn't have to worry about boring the others. At last years event in Boone, I could never have set that pace, and it's fun to watch yourself improve.

Eventually we ended up at a filling station and Eddie told us that there was about a 6 miles of twistys down the road, but we would need to turn around and come back once we got to the bottom. We rode down, and just as we got to the bottom, a large group of Buellers, lead by Jose arrived by a different road. We followed them back up the hill and everyone pulled back into the filling station. Then people would make trips up and down the road a few at a time.

Jose at the filling station:
Jose

There were two Blasts in Jose's group. I enjoy seeing the Blasts because I own one and because they are almost always accompanied by a pretty girl:

Red Blast
Yello Blast

After a few runs up and down the hill, our group of 4 rode off to lunch in a little town down the road. It rained while we were eating, so we decided not to look for any more twisties since the road was wet. Instead Ed took us on some beautiful but relitivly tame roads near Lavale. There were some windmills along the way that were huge. I've a couple of pictures, but you don't get a feel for how big these things are unless your standing under them:

windmill distance
windmill close

We got back to the hotel about 5:30 that evening. I had noticed a clicking noise comming from my rear wheel, so I walked across the street to Highland HD/Buell to see if they could look at it. I wasn't very hopefull, but they said to bring it over. About 10 minutes later they give me the news, "the wheel bearing is bad." That doesn't sound either cheap or quick to me, but they tell me it's a $7 part and they have it in stock. They can get it done before they close at 7:00 pm. I'm thrilled.

Ed, Carlos, & Kristi came over to wait with me. We were in the Buell section, and one of the mechanics comes over and wheels away one of their Blasts. Then the service manager comes over and says "I need to talk to you." I'm thinking this doesn't sound good. Apparently the mechanic had broken my wheel when pressing out the bearings. They had pulled the wheel off their Blast and put it on my bike. She was worried that I would be upset by this. On the contrary, I think they took great care of my. I was out of there in less than an hour and a half, and my bill was $55.

The next day it rained.
There were a couple of brave souls who went riding, but not many. Someone discovered a brochure in the hotel lobby advertising a scenic train ride up to Frostburg, MD. By the time all was said and done, about 30 of us ended up on the train. I would have rather been riding, but it was fun none the less. It was good to get a chance to sit down and talk with people.

I got back from the train ride about 4:00 that afternoon, in time for the closing dinner at a diner up the road.

Then today it was 400 miles of rainy driving back home. I was so glad my bike was on a trailer.

- Jim

PS: I was told that the woman on the red Blast dropped her bike on Friday night while riding in the rain. She apparently broke a finger, but is otherwise OK. Can anyone confirm any of this and does anyone know if she posts here? My wishes for a speedy recovery!

Thursday morning, John Fox of Buell did a nice presentation about Buell's design/testing methods and a second presentation about suspension theory/setup.

It was great stuff, but it was burning into our riding time, and the forecast for Friday called for rain. Unfortunately he/BRAG could not reschedule his talk to work around the weather.

Friday morning the rain had everybody mulling their options. A few people decided to go ahead and ride.

At breakfast somebody suggested doing the Cumberland/Frostburg scenic ride train. I called and they had space available.

What started out as three or four people discussing it and deciding to go ended up with a group of 34 BRAG members going. We all got to sit together (as Ft Bragg at first, but they fixed it later and announced our group on the train's PA, thanx BumbleBuell!)

Ironically that was the largest and slowest (16 mph average) group ride of the event!

See T9r's pics above for outside shots, these were from inside Car #540.

The blue bike is an RS, not an RSS....appears to be a 1991.

The seafoam green bike was a bike that was built for the HD media group (thaks to Amy Guiffre for the choice of colors, which I would have guessed would have looked terrible and looks simply stunning on the bike) and travelled the IMS circuit as a "typical race bike" about 1997.

Very cool pictures and looks like it was a GREAT evant.
