So I decided to go see my Mom this weekend, and that is where the story starts. I just moved to Kansas City in August from Chicago and my Mom lives about 250 miles away. This is where I must report that the bolt has failed me. I made it to Wichita and after making a stop at my girlfriends parents I only made it about 10 miles out of Wichita before I had to turn around. My headlight was flashing back and forth between nice and bright to dim and then my check engine light came on. The one with the piston. The bike felt like it was cutting out while at cruising speed, and the check engine light kept coming on and turning off. I had to drive about 20 miles back to her parents place like that because I was in the middle of nowhere. I'm thinking fuel pump, battery, or wiring. Any ideas, tips? I'm 200 miles away from my home and 60 miles away from my Mom's and my bike is not up to par. Please help! Thanks! |

Sounds like battery connections, make sure both terminals are secure PLUS the negative lead where it's connected to the frame. Check that all fuses are plugged right in and that the connector to the voltage regulator (the finned thing in front of the front cylinder) is secure. That's a start...good luck... I had my XB9SX completely die in a similar situation. I didn't notice the headlights since it was daytime, but the engine kept losing power in waves, until it completely died. I coasted to the side of the road. It was a wiring problem to the rear injector. It may have been exposed and touching the frame. Good luck, and I hope you are out riding soon. Chris |

When the engine light comes on it creates a trouble code. Do you know how to check trouble codes? |

Mine did that with a bad temp sensor. I unless it's something quick and easy you can find, I fear only a dealership can help. Sign up for the Brag tow protection quick! Then make your first claim... |

Got a DVM? Can you check the current battery voltage? |

I think the key here may be that the headlight was severely affected...... I'd personally start with the most straightforward electrical stuff already mentioned - like battery connections, grounds, etc. -Saro |

Mine died in a similar fashion. TPS wire rubbing against frame, under inner airbox, right side of throttle body. Left a visible black mark on the inside of frame. Fixed with electrical tape and a wire tie. Good luck, electrical gremlins SUCK. |

Thanks for all the help guys. I started with the battery and found that my positive connection was loose. Tightened it up and the bike ran like it always has after that. I'm just glad it was nothing more serious. |
