I noticed last night that someone decided to relieve me of my rear brake resivoir cover from my 9s. Has anyone had this problem? I have a good idea of who might have done it, if I get proof, the a** kisking will ensue. Is this even a possiblitly on a an R tail? I am so worked up. Of course, none of the are dealers, which there are 5 or 6 within 30 minutes, have anything in stock, and the XB is my primary transportation. This sucks. Not only that, but you can't order just the cap, you have to purchase the entire resivoir, it is only $18 but still sucks. I guess I am just venting to people who would understand. Any suggestions on lockable covers. I am putting an alarm on it, just don't want a sensative one that trips when a car rides by. I live in an apartment complex, so I don't have secure storage. |

They unscrewed and removed just the reservoir cover? I'm not familiar enough with the XB's to know if it is like on the 'tubers. My guess is that either someone wanted to disable the bike and come back for it later, or they wanted to sabotage it to cause you to crash. It's also possible that it's just some punk kids doing a rude prank. Regardless, check the rest of your bike over very carefully, look for screws or nails laying on the drive belt, other loose or missing bolts or nuts, stuff like that. There's no telling what a sick mind will do. Years ago I heard of someone who used to remove all the lug nuts on cars parked at the top of a hill leaving just one loosely on each wheel just to see how far down the hill the owners got before the wheels came loose. That person is/was sent to prison for other offenses. I see you're right here in town. Go down to Hal's in person and ask someone if there is a crash damaged bike or any takeoff parts that you can get a cap off of until your new one comes in. Maybe check back in the speed shop as well since they may be upgrading to something better retained and might have a few stock unused caps laying around. In the mean time just turn the matter over to the police, it ain't worth going to jail over for you. |

You might be lucky to find one from a local auto parts store that would fit. I think if it is a Brembo then most all Brembo covers will fit, making a generalization. The 9R is under the tail unit, hidden. One day, they will get what is coming to them, the one who took the cap. Something about that thing...karma. Carson Daly once talked about it. |

Karma. That's that there thing that Earl lives by now. Sucks that someone would do that though. I haven't had my bike (though it is an "R" long enough nor wrenched on it long enough to notice what kind of attachments are used to keep these brake cylinder reservoirs on. Could ya change it to something that is less likely to be had by hooligans? Torx (if it isn't already), or that one with the two inset dots in the head ( can't remember the name of it). I can't imagine what your feeling knowing that someone messed with your bike though. Hell, mine got spit on by an ignorant harley dude that apparently though the Buell was a "jap bike". I haven't caught up with him yet, but his bike is etched into my brain forever. And when I find it, his $200 kevlar belt is gonna have a meeting with a 4" stainless steel blade. |

"Someone spit on your bike? I can't imagine." Yep. on it's maiden voyage. I've heard of it happening to friends of mine that do ride "jap bikes" but have never seen it. I was always embarrassed when I heard of it, because I am a Harley guy as well. Stuff like that makes us all look bad. My bike was parked next to the only other bike at the bar, an older Harley Road King. Black, with purple flames. I came out of the bar, the Road king was gone and a huge loogy was on my seat. Pretty much disgusted me and my date. Like I said, I know how irate I was when that happened. I couldn't imagine how pizzed I'd be if someone actually removed something, or further did something to my bike as dangerous as removing a brake reservoir cap. |

I would also suggest buying a motorcycle cover for it. They make some that you can lock. |

Thanks for the advice guys, Hal's is getting one through "will call" today. I called them last night and even asked if they would take one of a showroom bike, they have a few '03s that aren't moving, and still order the part, but they wouldn't. Even asked them about any crashed bikes for parts, nothin. But that was just the parts counter guy, I didn't actually go in to the speed shop. I do have a cover, but it is el cheepo from Wal-mart. If it is who I think, I verbally ruffed them up like 6 months ago for reving a POS car in the parking lot at 11:00 at night. Cops got involved, bummer. I guess revenge is sweeter served cold. Idiots. I am still pretty tore up about the hole thing. Police are showing up tonight for a report. Don't think anything will come of it though. |

Sorry Gearhead. Hey if you want to get CSI on his , Try to get something with his prints on it. Like a piece of mail or something. Have the cops dust your resevoir for prints. It might be a little ridiculous, but in my opinion what was done to you is attempted murder. Good luck. |

I guess I am naive about the jap bike stuff. I have ridden both and ride a Yamaha now. I have never hesitated to park amongst the HD's at a bar or whatever. Usually right in front of the 'Harley Davidson parking only all others will be crushed'. Guess I have just been lucky. But to spit on someone's bike is just stupid. Especially since so many folks carry guns, and or have very short tempers. |

I was at a local coffee shop frequented by bikes when someone stole the valve stem caps off my last 9R. Glad you found out about the cover before you went riding. |

I can understand the anamosity between the "jap" bikes the the harleys but does it really matter? they are all on two wheels and not in a cage right? people need to grow up, im not a big fan of jap bikes but that wont stop me from giving someone a hand if something breaks on the side of the road sorry had to rant |

Before getting your knickers in a knot, you might consider the possibility that the cover just vibrated loose and fell off. This happened to me. Fortunately, one of my buddies noticed it sitting in the parking lot of the Seven Eleven. Sometimes we jump to conclusions that aren't necessarily correct, even though they seem very compelling at the time:-) |

When my XB was less than a month old someone poured at least a 20oz soda ALL over it. That sticky stuff was everywhere! It's probably a good thing that I didn't see it happen because I'm certain that I would have spent time in an orange jumpsuit in a county jail. |

Jon, Thanks for the input, I did consider the possibilty that it vibrated loose. It just didn't make sense. But I guess if it happened to you, it is possible. |

Jasonxb12s the police are not going to dust for prints, for an $18 part, especially on something so difficutlt to print such as the resevior. Unfortunatly if you don't catch someone in the act of doing something like that, it is almost impossible to prove. Just my two-cents Hard Corps |

So if someone cut your brake lines, or tampered with the brakes of a auto in your town, the cops wouldn't give a ? They would where I live. It has nothing to do with the price of the part. That's like saying you got mugged and beat down but you only had 20 bucks on ya, so the cops can't help. |

Jasonxb12s, I'd like to live where you live. I'm willing to bet that not only are they not going to take prints, they are not even going to take a report. In my neighborhood someone vandalized a bunch of cars, mine being worst. I called the police, they came, asked how much damage was done and when I said "about $400" their response was that it wasn't worth the district attorney's time, even though others had called it in too and they knew the two kids who had done it but couldn't prove it. Reading further between the lines: There wasn't any money in it for the county, so I was on my own. Then again, when I was held up at gunpoint ten years ago and my house burgled about the same time, the ONLY thing that happened was reports were taken. If such acts only merit a report, and colateral damage to my car doesn't even get that much, a missing cover off of a cycle isn't even a blip on their radar. Besides, it's too easy to write tickets instead. I admit that I'm jaded, but be happy if your police will pursue the matter. I wish more were that way. North of Los Angeles, in conservative old Ventura County. I guess it was just my luck to visit my friend who worked at a gas station the night it got held up. Looking down the business end of that revolver was quite the experience . . . But all's well that ends well. I didn't mean to hijack the thread, though. I'd be livid too if someone laid hands on my bike. (Message edited by stevasaurus on October 05, 2005) |

My reservoir cap also vibrated loose. I was at a track day and noticed some sort of liquid streamed all over my swingarm. I was pretty freaked out. I traced the splashes up under the seat to the rear brake reservoir. Sure enough, the cap was just barely sitting on top of the reservoir, not screwed down at all. I would almost definitely say that it just vibrated it's way to a new home, before you start hunting a vandal. That being said, if I ever caught someone vandalizing my bike, they'll be in a world of hurt. I've been the victim of vandalism multiple times, luckily none of them on my bike and lucky for them they remain anonymous. Maybe we should make a new law, that victims get 15 minutes in a room with a baseball bat and the vandal. Any votes? |

I had one window smashed out a month, a new window each time including the t-tops, windshield and hatch when I lived in an apartment complex. The complex told me too bad!!! At the time I knew a judge and he wrote a letter to the complex, I lived there for free until I found a house to buy, four months, got my deposit back and they cancelled the contract 6 mo's early!!! Did not quite add up to the cost of the glass but still it helped. |

Perhaps, if it were an aluminum bat. Wouldn't want it breaking half way thru the job. |

This eye for an eye stuff seems to strike a chord especially in view of the Muslim extremeists actions of late. Perhaps taking a blade to someones ride because of their ignorance is not the answer.Perhaps they will wallow in their ignorance so much they will drown in the depth of it. |
