The last thing I want to do is start an oil thread, but...

I haven't heard anything about oil for the transmissions in the 06 bikes. Is it OK to use the Mobil 1 gear oil or do I need to stick with the Harley brand oil?

I don't think there has been a lot of research on this one yet. I believe the new formula+ oil has different friction properties to help the clutch grab more in conjunction with the lighter clutch spring. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd be very careful until there is some empirical data on the other brands of fluid.

I do belive the most important question is: Full-synthetic oil or mineral oil. mineral oil is best to use under the bikes first 10.000 to 15.000 km. After that it's the full-synthetic oil. I've read that in a bike magasine about engine maintanance.

riclyd that is a very BAD idea. that was not the question at all, synthetic oil is indeed required for the transmission on the Buells.

Topic being discussed regarding correct lubricants for 2006 models on the Uly forum here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/148349.html?1127828502
Seems to be some mixed messages from the company/dealertechs/manuals regarding use of Formula+ and/or SYN3 in the engine/transmission for 2006.
Think someone is trying to get fluids clarification and service bulletin scoop to resolve any real/snakeoil lubrication issues/requirements of the '06 lighter clutch spring and helical gearbox if any..

Bruce, in regard to maintenance on your NEW motorcycle, my best advice to you is to read the owners manual, obtain the service manual, and carefully filter all the free advice rendered from strangers on the internet, and especially third hand accounts of what some magazine article said.
you are dealing with a NEW design of transmission. again any advice rendered is at this point merely speculation, your choice is to experiment with your new transmission, or use the correct lubricant, easily obtainable at your nearest HD store.
now as i am an anoymous stranger on the internet, feel free to disregard my 2 cents worth. enjoy the ride. dean.

again in opposition to Riclyd's suggestion, i would like to point out that the Buells have ALWAYS specified a synthetic transmission lubricant.
